Okay so, I made these this past weekend for PRIDE here in NYC and im like ridiculously happy with how these came out. They took a little longer than I had anticipated because i kept tossing the dough in the freezer between the steps to keep it from getting too soft but the extra effort was totally worth it. The cookies are delicious and not nearly as sweet as I was expecting. The recipe itself (with or without food coloring) is great in the morning with a cup of coffee and they were a big hit among my friends and coworkers. I'm definitely fileing this recipe away to use again in the future. Also, in regards to all this talk about rosanna pansino also making these, she tweaked the recipe and they didnt come out as well as the original recipe makes them. I ended up making sixteen cookies out of the batch and they were all awesome. They hardly spread and retained the vibrancy really well. They took longer than ten minutes to bake but i think thats because i had them chilled before putting them in the oven to further minimize the amount they would spread while baking. I remember when I first saw this video as a 14 year old freshman in high school and immediately knew i had to make them for my best friend's birthday. I remember making and baking them the night before and coming to school early so that i could sneak it into her locker. We're both 25 now and are too busy doing big girl things or too tired to bake or even meet up with each other most days, but occasionally i will still make her these cookies. Mine do the same thing, they are designed to be opened and used fairly quickly I guess. I will still try to use the gummy ones, they seem to still work but need a bit more mixing. I love the americolor brand because they come in little squeeze bottles with a flip top that only has small hole.

I used the cream cheese dough recipe. This dough is VERY soft and sticky, even if it chills overnight. Definitely use wax paper. The cookies did flatten some as they baked. Also, I thought the food coloring gave them a bit of an artificial taste. Thank you for the video. Maybe after a few times mine will look as pretty as yours!

I just did this as well for our daughters slumber party and had the same results with liquid coloring, although it was only 5-20 drops depending on color. Just make sure you wrap it up with waxed paper or plastic and chill it overnight. It won't dry out if wrapped. The more chilled this is , the easier it is to handle. Be sure to leave the portions you aren't working with in the fridge until the last second. This dough is super super sticky.

I tried making this recipe with a different color combination using gel food coloring as suggested. I chilled the dough two hours, floured my counter, and it was still too soft to get the ropes to twist as depicted. I ended up scraping the "poop" shape and smashed all the dough into a cookie press. Oh well! They taste good though.

I tried this recipe, and maybe it's just that it's more humid here, but the dough turned out extremely mushy and sticky. Even after I put it in the fridge, I could not get it to be workable. I would definitely recommend using a different recipe, or adding more flour.
