The water actually traps the dust really well. The reason why some of them get so dusty is because they don't put enough water in it. I always fill up mine just a couple of centimeter above the fill line to avoid that. I been doing that for a while and no dust has gone through and no water either. Thank for the video too

@PerformanceReviews,What youve stated and shown here about Rainbow vacuums is very true. Water filtration doesnt do a very good job of trapping all lot of the dust and dirt. A lot of substances simply are non wettable and pass right through the machines exhaust. Part of the problem is also that as the air passes through the water the dirty water evaporates constantly leaving dust residue in the motor and fans as is passes through the exhaust. When Rexair came out with the D3a and d3c plastic models they made the mistake of exhausting the air under the clear plastic dome with a plastic baffle over the motor,the same way the d2 did. It didnt take rexair long to realize that the domes would quickly cloud and fog up underneath as a layer of dust and dirt from the exhaust accumulated under the plastic dome with each use. Ive seen them where so much dust and dirt was underneath the plastic dome that uou could no longer even see the pattern on the baffle anymore. When they went to the d4 they redesigbed the motor and it exhausted the air out the base rather than under the dome to avoid this. Bottom line is that while I like Rainbows and have several of the gold and chrome dome d and d2 machines,they dont filter very well. I change the water after every 10 minutes,have a water softener and always clean the seperator and the machines still have dust under the dome and in the motors. This is why the newer Rainbows have Hepa filters. Consumer reports raked them over the coals for years rating them as the poorest filtration in the lineup.

The mud in the motor wouldn’t be as bad if customers changed the water every 2 To 3 rooms. The more dirt in the water the more dirt evaporates and gets into the motor. What you see is someone that has abuse their machine and not taking care of it.

It still happens even if you change the water every 10 minutes. I take great care of my d2 and dust still passes by the water. A lot of its caused by the dirty water evaporating as the machine runs. There's nothing you can do about that.

Hi so the bottom engine gasket has cracked so water was able to go up and the heba filter was full of dust. We don't have a service for the Rainbow vacuum cleaner in Iceland and that's why I have to be able to clean the motor part of the Rainbow e series. Can you just tell me if you disassembled the motor part somehow and also if you cleaned that part with a compressor? Kind regards from Iceland hope you see this and be able to help

+Nate J no almost every rainbow has the power to keep the water out of the motor why it's running one of the demos that is done in there turned upside down with water in it when it's running.

I don't think you will ever reply this but here it goes. Is there any fuse in the vacuum that I need to change. I can't switch on mine even after checking the water bowl properly placed with the bowl pin still okay. But when I plug with power nozzle, I can turn on the power nozzle only but not the vacuum.

I wouldn't bring it to a professional. It's probably something going on internal there are a lot of things in there that can cause that. Unfortunately nothing as simple as a fuse. Take a good look at your local Yelp listings before deciding where to bring it. Good luck to you

+Kat R they're pretty stiff from the factory. Sometimes they do get dirty and bound up with debris. Compressed air will do the trick.

I had one of these I got from a yard sale for 25 bucks. I didn’t much care for it to be honest. It worked ok as a vacuum I guess but was just to much of a hassle. Also seems like it’s way too flimsy to me. I can say for sure I don’t really miss it.

Should compare to a new age vacuum and the rainbow! The fact that you can still complain after finding it at $25,probably didn’t clean it, do maintenance to make it as new again and then still complain and yet you have a far more versatile vacuum when you dig deep enough to get attachments, consider how much more they pick up and actually clean then the garbage produce as the “new age suck everything up but doesn’t do anything vacuum’s”! Hell if any you should have parted it out or asked a nearby maintenance person to possibly it and you would’ve made some dang good money but hey why not complain about it and do nothing? Lol some people or most can’t think outside their box they live in today’s world!

I just got the 4 quart water basin and I’m not sure how far I should be filling it. When I go to the top of the peg, it doesn’t fill high enough to cover the inlet pipe built into the basin

The 4 quart pans are strange. On the d2 models and even the d3 they did the same thing. There's also a huge amount of space above the waterline that isn't there on the 2 quart pan which means seperator isn't slinging as much water around making a rainstorm like the 2 quart pan does

Before mine wouldn’t spin I got it to where it will spin now but it has no suction, it will without the power nozzle but once you plug in the power nozzle the brush spins but no suction

Good question. I would State the cleaning capability of a Miele C3 canister versus a Rainbow vacuum are very similar. Less than 10% difference.

More than likely a cord or a switch but you can't rule out the motor bring it to your local vacuum shop and have them fix it for you.

I have a couple rainbow d2's and Rexair D"s. Even if you change the water religiously every 10 minutes the inside of the machines look this dirty. Why? Because not only are there certain substances that are not wetabke that fly right through the water and into the fans,but the dirty water you're vacuuming with is constantly evaporating as you clean and leaving dirt in the exhaust. Rainbows always were rated the worst at filtration by consumer reports and that is why they added hepa filters ro later models. The fact that I needed to do that as an admission they don't filter well and negates the advantage of water filter,constant airflow with no filter to cause suction. Loss

You need to change your Rainbow filter I'm assuming that's what you mean by "was" /wash. Washing it only makes it worse.

Hyla doesn't need the filter because it uses a bucket of water to filter the filth. Neither does Rainbow. It didn't have a filter until 1998. It's your choice if you want one with a filter or not. Choices.
