Finally the first generation of ZeroRanger-likes is here and I'm all here for it.
Very cool graphical presentation, music, and attention to detail.
I also like the little bit of plot intrigue sprinkled in.
The demo so far has three different weapons with alternate firing modes while in focus, so essentially 6 weapons.
You have a forward focus shot, a multi-directional shot and a sword. Learning how to fully utilize these is the key to score and survival.
Scoring is mostly caravan style so far.
You destroy enemies, some waves give extra enemies when speedkilled, and you try not to drop the chain too much.
There is a pretty aggressive rank system here, which is pretty cool.
The more you score the harder the game becomes.
The scoring system needs another layer or two to make it really good I'd say.
The multiplier for the chaining system drops too slowly for it to really matter and is mostly just a no-miss check currently.
The sword does a ton of damage but is dangerous to use up-close, so some risk/reward time bonuses for speedkilling seems appropriate.
Currently there is an unintended oversight with tick points, the value of these is disproportionately high in relation to the other systems.
Which means that for the boss you actually get more points for shooting it with weaker weapons than actually speedkilling it and maintaining a high multiplier.
Most of the score optimization now comes from shooting enemies while they're still in i-frames which, while that is not a bad way to raise the skill ceiling, it is definitely unintended lol.
If you're really fast you can spawn two more midbosses, which is definitely huge for score.
You skip the boss dialogue by shooting the boss, which is actually better for score because of tick points lol.
