This is a great video. Thank you for taking the time to demonstrate both the replacement of the belt and the foot work of the treadle.

I have 2 Brother electric sewing machines, an antique bullet bobbin Singer (which needs a belt) and I gave my Grandma’s vintage 1950’s Singer to one of my granddaughters who wanted to sew. She was thrilled to get it. I learned to sew from my great grandmother who also had a Singer treadle machine. She sold her quilts in Savannah for years. I really need to order some belts for mine, but I just haven’t gotten around to it. That was a pretty good tip about the duct tape, I’ve never seen that done before. Thanks Heidi! Shalom and Blessings

We inherited my husbands greay grandmothers treadle machine. Need to replace the belt and do a bit of maintenance to get it running again. This video was very helpful. Thank you!

Heidi you did an awesome job explaining it. I have a treadle machine that is currently setting in a storage room. I need to get it out and get it running so to speak. It was my husband’s grandmother machine. I would like to have a Jamone. They are very nice.

Good to know. I have my mother-in-law’s old singer treadle machine and cabinet. Don’t use it but it’s nice to know how to put the belt on it which is stored in a drawer in the cabinet. Thanks Heidi!

My mother was a mountain girl from NW North Carolina and she and her mother used a treadle machine. No electricity until rural electrification in the 1930's which didn't reach grandmother's remote location until after WWII. Mom moved to the "flatlands" and purchased an electric one but grandmother used the treadle the rest of her life.

Thanks very much for the demonstration. Maybe I will get around to belting mine, it belonged to my grandma and she gave it to me as my first. All original, it ran like a champ.

I graduated from high school in 1964 and half of our home economics class learned to sew on a treadle machine and half on an electric machine. I learned on the treadle machine and I loved it. I actually made a lined wool suit with bound button holes. (High school wasn’t really my first experience sewing, however; my mother taught me to sew in fourth grade on her small portable electric Singer.)

I have 4 treadle machines, I have some belts sewn together with heavy string instead of the staple and one that has the modern plastic melt and weld drive belt. An advantage to the cord tied belt is the ends of the leather can have a gap as large as 1/2 an inch and still run smoothly, also a belt can have multiple joining spots with gaps and still run the machine. Conditioning the leather belt is a good thing. The belt may stretch/get loose until it dries with some treatments, but an over dry belt is more likely to break.

I was born in Bolivia, South America, and I watched my grandmother and aunts use a sawing machine like it but really old and heavy extremely heavy, but when I go back to visit they are still using the same machines. It is easy and they last forever.

Wow Heidi. Your sewing machine is an antique as you replaces the belt. The ones that will never be produced again . This modern and electrified society does not accept old machines. Have a great day and God bless you ❤😊❤

I have a treadle that belonged to my grandmother. It's been in my possession over 2 years, had to buy a belt but I haven't put it on yet. I also had to order the bobbin shuttle case and need to learn how to wind it. Thank you for this video. I'm sure I watched your original one years ago.😅😊

I have a treadle again. Your explanation was spot on. And yes duct tape works. Also, a "sleeve" about 2" long can be sewn up and put on the belt BEFORE adding the hookin the little hole. Then sliding it up over the "clamped hook". It will be a struggle because it has to be tight, but it does the same job. Good to see the video.

I have purchased a Janome machine a few years ago and still have not put my belt on yet. I was nervous about cutting it too short. I have my grandmother's old treadle machine and took out her machine and put in the Janome. It worked out ok as long as it is open, but I can never close it up. Thank you Heidi for your instructions.

Could you please show how to condition the belt and oil the old Singer machines? I have my great grandmother's Singer with a 100 little attachments but no clue how to work it. She made beautiful clothing on it and have the christening gown she made for grandma.
@RainCountryHomestead
@RainCountryHomestead Ай бұрын
It would be as simple as getting some kind of oil and rubbing into the belt.

Hi Heidi. This has got nothing to do with what you’re talking about, but I am thinking about dehydrating outside. I’ve seen (way back when) that you have done it as well. Anyway can you explain how to set up a dehydrator to a solar panel.
@RainCountryHomestead
@RainCountryHomestead Ай бұрын
I cannot explain it in the way you are thinking because we have actual solar outlets that Patrick wired into the house and shop. It is not linked directly to a panel but to our full set up. What you would need is some small, portable solar set up like one can get from Harbor Freight but you would only be able to use it on sunny days
