TWO THINGS TO NOTE: 1). For those who got irritated about me referring to marijuana as a "drug" PLEASE listen to the context I was using it in. Yes, I KNOW all about the medicinal benefits of cannabis which is yet another reason WHY I voted for it to be legal in WA state but my point in that part of the video was about people's rights to do what they please. IF people choose to use it to alter the discernment, they should have that right even if I do not agree with it. EVERYONE should have a right to use it medicinally as well. I just ask you listen to it all in within context instead of picking out one little part and making it something it is not. 2). For those who took the time to express their kind words and encouragement through the honesty of the things I shared here, for sharing your own story and areas where you could relate with what I have been through and with the choices and stand I take, THANK YOU SO MUCH! Not sure you all could ever know just how much all that means to me!

I have had close up personal experience with habitual pot smokers. As adults most of these people smoked in front of their children which lead their children to start. The oldest of these people has severe anxiety boarding on paranoia. I see this trend in many others who decide to take up this habit. Possibly it can be used for medicinal purposes but when I asked a doctor at the UW about CBD oil for my brother whose kidneys had failed while waiting for a heart transplant, the doctor said there was no peer reviewed evidence that showed that any form of cannabis was effective for pain. (2018). While somethings may be legal their are not expedient and truly not for our good.

I agree with you on the marijuana issue. There are the medicinal uses, but its so sad that there are those who abuse the use of it and others pay the price just like alcohol. I'm afraid that we're going to see, down the road, problems.

As someone who has had to be a conformist out of necesity (military brat then wife) then finding out what really mattered later in life, you are a breath of fresh air. You seemed to know who you 'were' from the start and what you wanted. And what feels 'right'. I have come full circle, to that 'aha moment' where all my crafts, sewing and quilting and canning and gardening are coming together. My son who is 35 is the only one in my family who thinks I am normal to want my own pantry separate from the kitchen. Maybe it is because I can finally have one now that the kids are out of the house. How I got here is a long one, lol, and this is not my channel. And I just turned 70. Going organic and gluten free DOES play a part in looking and feeling younger. Kudos to you Miss Heidi for your channel and for all that you teach us.

Well, for all of us who already love you a lot, we surely do now even a lot more! You are such a precious person! You will never know how much your influence in my life has helped me to overcome so much in such a short period of time. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this video. It is wonderful to understand your journey. At 62, exhausted from having to start all over again and again, here I am again while you're talking on the video, crocheting washcloths while your chatting and crocheting a baby blanket. My herbs are GORGEOUS because of you! I had no idea about such things but I wanted to know. The tropical storm is over us now in deep south Mississippi giving us much needed rain because of our drought. I was able to fix my treadle machine last week because of the confidence I've gained watching you and I was upstairs this morning ripping sheets for skirts I hope to sell to friends (one ordered) and aprons I've been selling to friends - my way of helping my family as we are without our main source of income. Like you, I had that gut feeling and started putting these things into place about 3 years ago when I came across your channel. I have grown so much and even though I am still intimidated by all that you know and do, I just pick a thing and try to gain proficiency. And you know what??? Last week, I had fibro pain come up so suddenly and painfully out of nowhere and because of my new confidence with herbs and teas from watching your videos, I drank some cacao tea and within an hour (no lie) I was crawling around on the floor playing with my dogs. I was walking like I needed a walked just an hour before. It blew my mind! I was almost pain-free and no longer stiff in one hour!!! I turned to my husband and said, "Heidi!" Normally, that kind of pain would have stayed with me for days and especially with this tropical storm over us and the low pressure. NOPE! When it left, it didn't come back. My husband is so tickled by all that I've learned. He comes up to the loft to watch me treadle and he was so tickled when I fixed my machine the other day. He has been thanking me for doing what I'm doing to help out right now with sewing for making some kind of a living and growing food and herbs and all the things I've learned to do to help out around here. My family loves you and Patrick very much and we thank God for you! And...by the way - not only have you maintained during this time without problems but you PROSPERED!!! Look at your channel and your store! We are so happy for you both!

I have just discovered you a couple of days ago, and I feel blessed to have found your channel. I too had similar aspirations as a young woman to live in a cottage in the country, Australia, have a garden and some animals and become as self sufficient as possible. Well life hasn’t given me that exactly, but I have always strived and be interested in self sufficiency. Now in my 60’s and living in suburbia, with a few square meters of garden, I still grow things, make things and keep learning and enjoy the pleasure and satisfaction one gets from achieving from scratch. God has been good to me, and I’m grateful for what I have, but a little part of me still wishes I had had the life style people like yourself enjoy. Anyway, still learning, doing, making, teaching , and thanking you for sharing. God bless you. 😍😍

That takes a lot of strength to open up like this. I have an extremely abusive background from newborn on. However I have always told myself what I've been through doesn't mean that's who I am. I have broken the pattern and am raising 4 kids abuse free without my family. I am also a caregiver for my better half who's an injured vet. We make us who we want to be ❤️

Congratulations on the new grandchild. One of the things I enjoy about watching your videos is your strength. Your are a confident woman and speak up for those things that you truly believe in such as your faith in God. I was told by my father, as a child, that I was stupid and couldn't do anything and would never grow up to make anything of myself. I will soon be 64 years old and am still having to remind myself that those words are not true. When I listen to strong women it empowers me to try things I have never done before. I put a lot of things off because I am afraid of failure and those childhood words would be true. But, I am encouraged by your videos and have stepped out of my comfort zone. I know the bad comments have to hurt but believe me you are touching the heart and changing lives more than you will ever know. Thank you for all that you do and for the encouragement and sharing your knowledge with us. God Bless You!

This means SO much to me! That relationship I had in my early 20's nearly broke me. I was already an insecure person when I met him and he made me so much worse. I know it was divine intervention that not only had me finally stand up to him, but that things fell together in such a way to force me out of that relationship. If I ever got the impression that any of my teenage dance students was in a relationship like that, I would speak up and make sure they knew there is a way out of abusive relationships, be it physical or emotional abuse. I have always hoped and prayed that what I went through would help me to make a difference for someone else.

Thank you for that! Over a month ago I recieved a very cruel email from a former follower who made all kinds of false accusations about me and one of them telling me I was bitter and resentful towards Patrick. They were falling back on their lame psychology degree thinking that gave them the insight to make such a false judgement based on watching us on videos even though they have never met us in person. They could not be ANY more wrong in their poor assessment. Just goes to show how good a degree is when no real experience is applied. They also accused me of not being intelligent enough to seek a higher education when they had no idea I actually DID go to college. Not going on to finish getting my degree does not make me any less intelligent, it simply means God had other plans for me and they have turned out to be far more profitable in many ways that I am certain it would have been had I continued to get further in debt to some degree that would have likely not got me to where I am now!

I had gardens and cattle for a while then we moved into town. I ended up with Hypothyroid and Hashimotos with leaky gut and food and toxin allergies. Hi Heidi - love your story! and thank you for sharing it. You are blessed to have such a great partner in life. You have done so well together. It's great that you are influencing young people with what you are doing. I started with frugality and doing many things the "old way" out of financial necessity. I was a single parent of 2 children, and remain single now, and aging alone.I started really liking it so much better. I quickly learned that I no longer fit in with many of the people I knew - both friends and family. Due to that, I have very few friends, and not much of a social life, but I enjoy my yard - I live in a small town - I garden and have a goal of adding another raised bed each year until I stop working. I work from home now - due to covid changes - and love that i can go out in the yard during lunch, and no more commute time. I have started preserving food, and have lots to learn. I love the information that you share - it helps me so much! Thank you.

Thank you so much, Heidi for sharing your story on how you got to where you are. I think its a blessing everything that you have had a chance to do. I agree on a lot of things you mentioned. I too decided to look into politics and learn a little more on who and what I was voting for around 2019. My husband and I got into gardening around 2018, 2019 because it was very hard to come across good quality food that was organic free of hormones and pesticides and that's when we decided to learn about gardening. That gave us the confidence to want to do more and we decided to purchase property back in 2019. We are still in the process of developing our property and hope to move there not too long from now, once we pay off all our debt. We love the idea of living in the country, growing a garden, raising our own animals and teaching our children about God's beautiful creations. Thanks so much for sharing your story.

Had an estate sale (rid lots of nik naks & unnecessary things we didn't need) donated some, had bonfires, 2 dumpsters full. 🤦‍♀️ (i had a candle making business 20yrs and lots accumulated at our home) God put on my heart to learn self sufficiency, homesteading, prepping etc. So I have spent the last 4yrs 2016-current learning from KZbin (your channel and many more & still learning) We put our home on the market over a year ago found 30acres with a 5acre pond and lost it, cause house didn't sale. We feel God was preparing us for the beautiful land we are moving to in 8days. So that is when we realized we weren't ready to sale and spent the last year parting with material things (estate sale, bonfires etc...it was liberating) pulled house from realtor and did for sale by owner (sold ourselves) Found our current land with cabin (89acres hunting land, 1mile creek, pond & 100x50garden) I'm emotional as I type this, cause we both feel God lead us here every step of the way and we continue to see confirmations. We are so grateful and I along with anxiety. I think because I don't wanna mess things up. Lol. I have this wonderful garden started by the previous owners (needs a lil tlc) and still have lots to learn (thru trial and error) so many ideas in my head too along with moving and getting settled. Boxes surround us as we wait for our move in 8 days and feeling I still need to get rid of things and focus only on functional items, but I like ambiance and want to make our cabin cozy, functional, but not cluttered. I think I just need to chill and let things fall into place. My hubby retires in 10-12yrs. I do wish we could find a way to make a living off the land where he can retire earlier. I am going to look for your video you mentioned on how y'all make a living from your homestead. Sorry this was so long. It was therapeutic for me to type out this a.m. before I start my day packing more boxes for the move. Thank you again for the inspiration from your channel & lessons. You're a blessing. God Bless ❤🙏🥰

Popped up on my feed and didn’t realize it was a year old … apologies for old comments I loved this video. I’ve often wondered random things about you in response to something you’ve said. You answered all of it. We’ve had similar lives, except you have drive and apparently follow-through. :D My drive is lacking, but I’m okay with that. We seem to have started walking the same path around 2008-2010. And ten years later I found your YT and am grateful. You’ve helped me tremendously with follow-through. And I’m particularly grateful for your tutoring on vinegars. I’m working on it. Re “signs:” Always follow the signs. Some would call it “your gut.” I think it’s all the same thing. The difference is to whom one attributes the advice. Some can’t see past their belly button.

I don't have a garden but I am sure hoping to have one this spring. I wish I had checked your channel sooner, I just spent over 400 dollars on Amazon, to think I could have used your link. Thank you for the inspiration, both to prep, but more importantly, to get back to worshipping my God.

Wow, Heidi! You really put yourself out on the line here! God Bless you! Beautiful story and we have so much in common. I too started questioning the mainstream narrative in about 2010. I was becoming increasingly anxious about the state of the country and the government and I just didn't see it as heading in a direction I wanted to go so we left. We felt God calling us on to greener pastures and He opened many doors for us to get settled on a beautiful homestead in Southern Chile. We have been here 7 years now and loving every day of peace and tranquility and providing for ourselves. We are living freer, safer, and cheaper! Many thanks for sharing your story! I am so glad I listened to this. My daughter had a live-in BF and they decided to move back to WV where he was from. They had a cute fixer upper home my daughter had bought cause he had no money. After a year of living there and he having lots of time off from his Union job and not lifting a finger to help fix up any thing, I’d had it. I was babysitting their new baby daughter (at their house) about around a year and a half which is how I was very involved in knowing what was going on at their place. I saw he was doing little to nothing to fix up the house while my daughter worked full time and had to drive over two hours a day back and forth to work. He being Union had months off in the winter with many other long week ends off and other days he could have done what was needed to make it more liveable and homey or just help keep it up to help keep it clean and neat. After blowing off about him one day my daughter told me they were leaving for WV to be with his family. He was going to buy a house for them with the big bucks he would earn learning to be a train conductor like his father. Long story short, even though he didn’t work for weeks before he left he didn’t lift a finger to pack or help plan their move. He left her high and dry to do everything (rehab the house, pack, and maybe eventually sell) her home while continuing to work full time except for her two weeks off for her vacation she used to do what she could. He left for his training doing nothing for over a year to really help her at all besides nothing to help with the move. In his defense though he did help pay for half the mortgage each month, but no help with baby stuff etc or food or anything in that arena. He really is the Loser I called him. Well she finally packed her car up and his mom and moms BF eventually came and got a load and they all left. My heart broke because I had gotten so close to my baby grand daughter. My daughter made three trips back to Illinois to work several days each rehabbing the house and packing her car up to the point of being unsafe (there still is a whole garage and kitchen full of stuff to move.) They are living with his brother for about 8 months now in some old bachelor pad looking house in this tiny town in WV. It breaks my heart to see how my grand daughter has to live. The one good thing is his ‘mommy’ lives very close and babysits for free (I think, as I did) so my daughter can work at a job which now takes her only approx 20 min to get back and forth to. For the life of me I don’t know why she hasn’t kicked this relationship to the curb. She is a Masters college graduate, used to be very pretty but now doesn’t take care of herself well and surely she’s got to be depressed somewhat at how things are going. He hasn’t bought or even rented a place for them and since his ‘mommy’ and my daughter have been house hunting together lately I’m thinking he still has little interest in making a family home. I’m totally flabbergasted at what she has done and that she is still with him after how he has been. The house is still not ready for sale here three big states away from her. I’m trying to stay out of this business but am fuming and missing my grand daughter like crazy. I pretty much don’t even want to talk to my daughter because of all this. Once a week calls from her is about all there is. I’m usually upset afterward. My three other adult daughters here don’t really talk to her as they are disgusted with the situation and have had their own reasons for not taking to this “BF” baby daddy. Well, you sure did save yourself a lot of trouble by dumping that guy and it just reinforced for me that my daughter should have done the same. She didn’t and now has a lot of disappointments ahead of her in life. I’ve got to pick up my pieces and get on with my own life which being in my 70’s there isnt that much left. Thanks for sharing your interesting and lovely story and listening to mine.

I love what you said about being in town, and the kids taking notice of your garden/ simple life. I had an influence when I was very young. I lived in a suburb... we moved to a very rural small town. My favorite memories are with my baby sitter, she lived an "old fashioned" life, home full of antiques, a holly hobby stove, and warm Whoopie pies! Also the parents of one of my friends, she was very into organic, might have been a hippie at some time, bulk buying, she was my introduction to " tiger milk" ( doubt it really was from tigers...no idea what it really was..goats it had a tiger on the can? BUT I thought it was cool! 😂) home made pizza, and her Dad was always building something, usually with his hands. He would let us use his tools. Even thier house was passive solar. I sure miss thier tire swing that swung over a cliff into a field. Those were my loneliest days, being an only daughter....but also my best ones, when I was with neighbors or friends ❤️

I, too, share the beliefs that you shared and only wish that I could be more self-reliant. Due to an accident in my twenties, as I get older the daily chronic migraines and fibromyalgia have gotten worse even with clean eating and natural therapies. I used to be a gardener but can't do it anymore. There is a young woman who runs a vegetable and herb farm in my neighborhood, and in the summer I can get beautiful food from her instead. So God provides!! She has CSA's (Community Supported Agriculture) we buy and I only buy 1/2 and share.

In December 2019, I had a strong gut feeling that something was going to happen. I said, I don't know what I am prepping for, I just know that something is coming. It gives me shivers down my spine when I remember my words and feelings at that time and now see what has happened. The Lord spoke to me through that gut feeling. I am sure of that. The pandemic has not effected us much. I started some serious food storage and enlarged my food garden. My husband thought I was nuts but he is thankful now. He said that I have got us into a good place by prepping. I have your channel and support to thank for alot of my learning. And I need to thank your skirts!!! As searching for the maker of your lovely skirts was how I found you. Specifically, a lovely blue skirt that Stacey was wearing in one of her videos.

So glad you shared your life and experience with us . Glad you shared your other guy experience.I was in a controlling situation also. I finally got out and then I met my husband in church. He was very protective of me, enemy my ex was stalking me. Funny how we had some of the same things. My hubby was a full time farmer, miking cows. A piece of property came up for sale , 50 acres , that was attached to the main farm He bought our property .I was a 4-h leader for 25 years, until I had to quit because of my back injury. We have chicken, ducks , I was a big gardener, and so was my hubby. We had a huge garden, I canned and froze all are food. I would can 600 qts a year. I love the way you share how you teach us how to make things , to be self sufficient. God bless you and your hubby. I just love living on the far,, even though I can’t help farming side by side with my husband. We did everything together, and it was very hard to give all that up. ( my car accident changed so many things for me l I have severe back pain where the fusions are . Thanks for teaching in a way that makes it interesting.

I saw so much of myself in your story. Growing up I too was so shy if someone talked to me I would cry and hide behind my Mom. (Not the case today-I have come out of my shell and lead a ladies Bible study and because of COVID I have been doing Facebook live. My, how our God works!) My husband and I were both in marriages that were not good, but we would still be in them but our former spouses had other ideas. As hard as it was at the time I am thankful for how things turned out. My husband and I are becoming more self sufficient all the time-and loving every step of our journey! Congratulations!!! Love the colors of the afghan, earth tones are beautiful. Thank you for sharing a bit about the journey your life has been so far. It is crazy the turns our lifes take that I so different than what we "plan". I know that from from some very hard lessons myself. Those lessons kind of play into my shift back to a life of being more self-sufficient. My family had a small farm and raised cattle, goats and horses and always had a huge garden and put up the bounty from it but when I was in my last teens my grandfather passed away and my dad chose to get rid of alot of the livestock and took a job in a nearby town working on railroad trucks so our life shifted there. Then in my early 20s I married and moved 2 hrs away from my family and if I had to do it over again I wouldn't have moved so far, but my shift back to the life I grew up in started about 7 yrs ago my brother got me started with chickens before he was killed in a car aaccident and I have some health issues that have created a void in my life and so I guess I started reverting back to what brought me joy and it has progressed on from there.

Heidi, first I want to congratulate you and Patrick on your new grand baby. That is such exciting news! I am sure you will have such fun making all sorts of things for this little one to wear. Next I'd like to thank you for being so bold to take a stand for the unborn. God bless you for using your voice to speak for the ones that have no voice. You could have lost a lot of subscribers and yet you stood strong. God will honor that. I so appreciate all I've learned from you. My husband and I have been married for 43 years and we have had a garden for 40 of them. We had always wanted to live on a lot of land but my husband's job moved us to the snowest part of Pennsylvania so we ended up on a corner lot much like yours. When we moved here years ago we planted a garden and it gets bigger every year. Our neighbors call our back yard the "Back 40". Lol. I was told my Instagram account was very old fashioned. What a nice compliment! I knit, bake, cook from scratch, and recently am learning how to dye linen with natural dyes. There is always something to learn! My mom, who is 98, told me once that people should learn how to do things like her parents did when she was growing up because some day people going to need to have those skills. I think she is right. Again Heidi, thank you for sharing your knowledge. You are a blessing to me and so many others. May God continue to bless you, Patrick, and your family.

Especially with the situation we are all in now, it is IMPORTANT people learn some of those skills. I see many jumping on board but seems too many more are not making the most and learning from all this and that is truly sad. The more people that have gardens and skills and are a bit more self sufficient, the better we will all get through what I believe I see coming. However, if this truly is what is going to bring us to Revelation, at least we already know what the final outcome will be.

I know I'm late to the party, but you give me hope for myself. So many things in my life echo things in yours. The farm visits, my uncle owned a farm and I used to visit whenever I could. The starting to train in counselling, the cruise ship, (though I did work on the ship), the teaching dance... even the emotionally abusive boyfriend in Seattle, even though I'm English and live in England. I've still to find my Patrick, but I'm happy as I am after the Seattle debacle. Like you I've always wanted to do things properly. I can't cook, I can burn salad, but I try. I've always tried to make my own things, be it knitted, crocheted or sewn. This year I'm trying to grow foods in the garden, not that there's much space in our shared garden, but pots would appear to be my best option. Wow, I can talk... Thank you, Heidi, for being you and really speaking to my soul.
