I had the extreme pleasure of seeing Rainer play 2 nights in a row. Heard him on Friday and just HAD to drive a few hours the next day to see him on Saturday. He's the only guitarist that ever made me put down the cue stick when I was holding the table. I just gave the game away and sat down 4 feet in front of him. Never heard anything like him before or since. Great guy too. Shared a joint. Talked between sets. RIP Rainer

Such, such a gem this one. Not only this song but all that Rainer has brought to us. It is beyond believe he's about to be forgotten to oblivion.

Nobody has made music like this, before or after Rainer. Cosmic psych folk blues.

I was too poor to go to the nightclubs and other musical venues, but Rainer Ptacek (1951-1997) seemed to have quite a following in the 1980s and 1990s in the 4th Avenue clubs of Tucson, Arizona. I'd see his name on nightclub marquees and such. The newspaper The Tucson Weekly covered him from time to time. I read he was pretty popular in New York City and in Europe as well in the 1980s up to his death in 1997. When he died of cancer at a young age, a lot of folks were quite upset. In 1983, he was in the debut video of The Giant Sandworms called Body Of Water which included Howe Gelb and Billy Sedlmayr. The Giant Sandworms had success later as Giant Sand. Anyway, even in the mid-2020s, Rainer Ptacek is still fondly remembered in the Tucson area.

GuitarSwan 8 months ago For those asking for the lyrics, I transcribed them as I plan on doing a cover of this as well. They are a little different from Jeffrey's version but as close as I could tell to Rainer's. Tell me where did All of those years go? Tell me now where did all those times go? They sure do take their toll They sure do they take their toll Don't know why I Don't know why I love you so Oh by now I know I should have a reason Oh if I could give you a thousand I would give you one But there's more to it than saying words There's more to it than simply feelings Don't know why I Don't know why I love you so Sleep is like a coma in black Oh I'm slipping into the land of the black Too far can feel it getting dark, dark and darker And I just wanna put my arms around her Don't know why I Don't know why I love you so Well I went out, went out to Bob's Highway Yeah I caught some cold air blowin all in my face Those cars they just keep goin by me Oh they do pass at an incredible pace Still I survive, still I survive
