I had the amazing pleasure of seeing Rainer twice. First time, he played a small blues club in Syracuse NY. I was really shooting some great pool that night. Held the table for an hour. Rainer came on and I could not keep my eye on the table. Couldn't believe I was hearing that much music out of one guy. Comping bass lines, playing rhythm, and picking out lead lines ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!!! 3 songs in , right in the middle of a game I gave up my stick and took a seat in front not 4 feet from him. He sang classic old Blues tunes, new blues tunes, his tunes, memorably a version of Paul Westerberg's "Can't Hardly Wait". Some 40 years later it's still a top ten concert.

I was lucky enough to see Rainer at the Weavers in Islington. Can't remember exactly when but about twenty five years ago seems about right Such a great songwriter and outstanding slide guitarist and and sorely missed. I love The Texas Tapes with Das Combo, also Barerfoot Rock with Rainer is a must if you're a fan. Thanks so much for what you gave us and RIP Rainer Ptacek

P.S. He looks a like Peter Gabrial singing a Gabriel Byrne song! Lol. Pure 80's!
