Rainfall soaking Southern California

An atmospheric river rain event is soaking Southern California this weekend, bringing gusty winds and flooded streets while exacerbating conditions for residents in the San Bernardino County mountains.

Has Los Angeles ever considered using/CAPTURING the abundance of rainwater falling into/through and down the LA River and all the little creeks as irrigation for the farmlands, city GREENSCAPES, and its citizen's household & business/Malls, etc. plumbing needs as opposed to using the snowfall acquired in the high Sierra Mountains? Just curious.

LA Times says they are going to do that with the runoff on the San Joaquin river, redirect the water to refill the aquifer in the southern central valley.

Rain isn’t common in LA. I think it is technically a desert. A wetland area to filter runoff when it does rain would be sweet. When it rains there after months of dry weather the run off is FILTHY 🤮

NO - in the early 2000s California considered building more reservoirs but the climatologists told the California leaders that due to climate change, there would be enough rain in the future to justify building more reservoirs.

That is my old neighborhood, as there is a small, cozy college up there in the mountains. Please don’t wish havoc on one lovely, woodsy neighborhood just because one couple you despise lives there. There are several nice families I know who also have homes up there who are hard-working and were lucky to build their property there at a strategic time. I also highly doubt Harry’s 18-bedroom, Mediterranean style mansion on the mountainside flooded. Montecito is a beautiful neighborhood of winding roads with tall Eucalyptus trees and pine woods and natural wood fences. It smells nostalgic, like forest, with a light, distant, fresh ocean air mingling. You can hear an occasional peacock yarping … and at dusk, you might catch glimpse of an oversized racoon or possum ambling by. No two houses look alike. It is a quiet, cozy, private, nostalgic feeling neighborhood. And a beautiful place to have a run, if you like cross-country mountain runs. There are creeks snd hot springs, and at the bottom of the “hill,” an idyllic beach to watch the sun set… or the moonscape across the ocean at night. Lovers tryst there. There is a wildlife bird sanctuary at the bottom of this mountsin as well. Many people have precious memories of Montecito, so I hope people won’t wish ill there just because Dianna’s unhinged son and classless wife bought a mansion there.

California reservoirs, rivers and groundwater levels are past capacity and we have record snowpack along almost every mountain range across the West, but for some reason not a single drop of these relentless torrents ever seems to make it into Lake Mead or Lake Powell. Billions of gallons of water are being wastefully washed out to sea, including along the Colorado River. So why aren't we allowing Lakes Mead and Powell to fill? Is there some sort of insidious political agenda that requires them them to run dry and cause a future catastrophe somewhere down the road? Save this precious water! Quit allowing the Colorado River to rush out to seas at record levels!
