No crank no start on these Hyundais is always an initial 2 step process for me. 1) Try to turn the engine over by hand. 2) If it turns over, put a power probe on that wire and see if it cranks.

@@1337penguinman I have had a few people call me with the no crank no start problem with Ford trucks and I say I only have one question. "Has the battery recently been changed? When faced with this situation, I try the jiggle test of the neutral safety switch before rigging lights. My very first failure to start was in my first car, a 1960 Impala back in 1970. Being a kid, I bypassed the switch. it was fun to launch by starting in drive. Those were the days of simple cars--yet they still had failures. Your method achieves the same results with a greater degree of certainty, given the complexity of modern systems.

My SLA (service level agreement) was 2 hours on site window after call was generated by customer,with a 4 fix time. The Diagnostic was always using a 7 step plan on every call. Stated with the cables/wiring and worked up to software. You never know what to be the fault. Always used the senses on vision, hear, touch, smell, and sometime taste. It’s always so much fun watching Ray use the information from AllData to devise a plan to figure out where the problem lies. It’s also comforting that when he couldn’t find the second white wire he did not want to guess where the other wire could be and begin shorting to random pins. With all the data that AllData provides, it must have a very hefty subscription cost, but it’s certainly the best tool in the shop for diagnosing electrical issues. 👍

Alldata is much more reasonable point than many others on the market! They also provide guides to troubleshoot that is interactive for commercial subscriptions and it gives a number of fixes per possible issue. As an example it may tell you that 7 out 10 repairs for no start were the neutral switch 2 were relay and one was corrosion so that you can check the most likely part first. Old original one gets water in it, and as the safety start is on the bottom, that fails before the display starts to give false readings. Bottom is the safety switch, and the reverse light, top is the trans position switch. Most common would be start failure, but another clue is the reverse lamps either glowing dimly, or being burnt out from being on all the time.
@iowasandy9 ай бұрын
I missed the parts disassembly to see what failed in the NSS switch! Good basic trouble shooting. I look forward every morning to see a new clip as I am retired and do not see customers problems anymore, just my own!
@SeanBZA9 ай бұрын
Those switches are a common failure, the recess at the top allows water in, corroding the safety switch, which is on the bottom of the switch. You note the new switch is a different design, including both no more recess, and a seal that is improved to keep the switch dry inside. If you look at the wiring diagram there is actually a option for the switch, used in the manual version, where the vehicle will not start unless the clutch pedal is fully pressed. That switch too is known to give problems, but being protected is less likely to suffer from water ingress and the corrosion from that, more than not simply falling apart as the plastic goes brittle.
