Yep, sounds like an F-150. Lifter tick, tick, tick. I think Ford wanted a recognizable sound, kind of like a Harley has. I had a 2000 F-150 with the 5.4 Triton that had the exact same tick. Nothing was "wrong with it," it just had a tick. At 224,000 miles and 2 simultaneous head gasket failures, I opted to install a Jasper re-manufactured 5.4 Triton crate engine and it too had the tick. Just a plug for Jasper, this motor is a great option for engine replacement, imo. It's not overly expensive and they come with a 100,000 mile warranty on internals and they will pay for labor if something were to require fixing.

@NerfCraft2 ай бұрын
@bradhaines3142 That would be an interesting business idea. 2hrs for a drive train swap is pretty impressive, but you'd hope most engine maintenance could be handled without pulling the engine. I feel like many people these days would not think that far ahead. Most people that have those are most likely trying "patch" a more serious problem. It also depends if the containers are open, and how much fluid is in them. A bunch of sealed containers may just be one of the few people that is actually thinking ahead and being prepared, or they are preparing to perform a service on their own vehicle. A half used jug of oil is almost certainly an indication of an oil leak or oil consumption. In the case of this F-150 owner in the video, the jugs were completely empty, because the owner just changed the oil, hence the fresh oil on the dipstick. Now I wouldn't be surprised at all if the engine leaks or burns oil, but that's not why he bought the oil.

I kept hearing "Fords have IBS" until I turned the CC on. My old F150 ran and ran and ran. Everything rotted away, but that engine would not quit. Of course, we are talking over 50 years ago...

Did it have the 300 six. Those engines are beyond bulletproof with decent maintenance.

Honestly it seems like it’s fairly solid all things considering, just rough around the edges. I think the ticking is probably from the cam phasers, they are a coming fault. The reason I think that is because the engine sounds fine for a bit after startup, those phasers operate on oil pressure.

I never understood why people would spend tens of thousands of dollars for a vehicle and trash it. The best thing to do with this truck is to save the bungee cords and dispose the rest.

This is the poster child of “ don’t do any maintenance “ . , simple replacing shocks , tuneups , oil changes at the required times , goes a long way to keep whatever name brand you drive going. Yes not everyone has funds to do these things all the time - learn to set back a few$$ for service . Remember that is your ride home. Stay safe , have fun.

Shocks do not determine how long a vehicle will last. You can drive a million miles on bad shocks.

@@Boga217 no they do not add in how long your motor last but the do effect loads and handling in a truck . Yes you can go miles with bad ones .

@@Boga217 You could go tens of thousands of miles with a lot of bad parts, but should you? Worn or faulty parts could in some cases cause damage to other parts of the vehicle, so keeping up with regular maintenance will help your vehicle last longer, and work better. Also have to keep in mind the safety of yourself, as well as others on the road. You don't want to be the cause of someone getting injured or killed, just because you didn't want to spend a couple hundred bucks on suspension repairs, or other repairs for that matter.

Compare this 2006 with my 2007 F-150 that also sits outside all day in the southeast heat & humidity. Mine has more green algae on it, but it purrs like a V8 should, doesn't leak, doesn't tick, doesn't burn oil, and rides like a Cadillac.

@@donwyoming1936 I own a ‘06 F-150 with about 110K on it , no issues , while I live in Missouri and we have hot summers and cold winters , I do general maintenance on it , oil changes , tires , etc. but rarely wash it . Paint seems to be surviving with one small rust spot on the passenger side upper rear wheel well . Also no ticks . My grandson is driving it now for a work truck , think I will give it to him , I have another ride to drive.
