There are real aliens and to think that the disastrous human race are the only beings in the whole of space is just ridiculous. However, the aliens that are now being pushed onto us by the governments of the world are totally fake. There is something called Project Blue Beam (a fake alien invasion) that's been in the planning for many years. Look it up it's very real. There will never be "real alien" disclosure in our lifetime as their advanced energy systems and cures for all illness would take the control and power away from our corrupt governments. Now lets get this clutch fixed.

Yes, did my drivers with a Datsun 680 pick up, with column shift, all 4 speed and reverse on the tree, and with the full Nautilus package, of no power steering and drums all round. Then owned a VW Beetle, same thing, just gearshift on the floor. Currently drive manual as well, simpler to maintain, no trans fluid to get dirty and die, and a clutch is cheap as well.

I learned to drive on a 1963 Plymouth, with a slant 6, "three on the tree", manual steering, manual drum brakes, bias ply tires, crank windows, no A/C, no seat belts, and AM radio. It ran great, was easy to drive, rode smoothly over bumps, and was extremely reliable. It was roomy inside and had a huge trunk. On a cross-country vacation from RI to CA and back, that car would cruise all day at 75-80 mph and get 23 mpg, and not burn a drop of oil. My Dad taught me how to use the parking brake to start off smoothly on a hill w/out rolling back. You young guys don't know what you've missed!

Auto transmmissions and A/C were accessories in my early days. Starter on the floor where you could step on it while holding the clutch in. High beam switch on the floor. Wipers would run faster when you were slowing down and almost quit when you sped up. They ran off a vacumn pump which was on top of the fuel pump. I quit!! I just realized I'm older than dirt.

Most of the cars I have owned have been stick shift - I'm from the UK and its the default option here (well, it was in the 80s when I learned to drive). I had one car with a column gear change, but the linkages were worn somewhat and finding a gear was a bit like stirring custard with a stick of rhubarb. Although for city traffic an automatic gearbox will save yourself from leg cramps as you shuffle 20 yards ar a time in traffic jams.

Pfff, I wonder what all the fuzz is about. Oh yeah, might be due to me living in Europe and Automatic transmission only got more common when they switched from classic automatic transmission to the likes of double clutch systems like the ones Volkswagen uses a few years ago. Now they seem to be phasing out manual transmissions, as the automatic ones allow the cars to be more fuel efficient. I grew up with the "common knowledge" of automatic transmission causing poor fuel economy in compariso. Which again is what makes me think is the reason why automatic transmissions only took of here when they got rid of the torque converter. I think I drove my first automatic actually on vacation in Canada, when I was 25.

I learned to drive manual transmissions by observation as a kid, I have preferred manual transmissions ever since I first drove a friend's truck. And back in 2003-2004 I almost bought a 1976 Chevy long bed pickup with a 3-on-the-tree. The gentleman that was selling the truck showed me where each gear was, and I instantly fell in love with that truck on the test drive. Got back to his place "Are you sure you have never driven a column shift manual before?" he asked. "Yes sir, never driven one of these, but I know how to drive a manual, just has the gear lever in a different spot". I think those that complain about column shift manual transmissions have only driven them when the mechanism is worn out or out of adjustment.

As an FYI, you do not need to disconnect the battery on a Ford in order to remove the starter. The battery lead on the starter comes from the solenoid and is only energized during cranking. Also, I haven't seen the flywheel yet but as far as the worn ring gear, all you need to do is heat it up with a torch and flip it over. Of course, you still need to machine the flywheel surface when replacing the clutch.
@Deweyfd13
@Deweyfd13 11 ай бұрын
After 1987 the battery lead goes direct to a solenoid on the starter. The fender solenoid is only used to energize the small wire on the starter, similar to GM. Why ford did that I have no idea. Anyway on that body style you have to disconnect the battery or you’ll have a live wire down at the starter to contend with during disassembly.

I was a mechanic when these year models came out. It was planned to go to strictly metric but was not official. Vehicle manufacturers, in their finite wisdom, decided to do part metric and part imperial. It was necessary to need both sets of tools to do anything. Just loosening the bolts on an alternator to replace the drive belt required both. And there was only one bolt that mounted the alternator and one bolt to adjust the alternator. Very aggravating.

Nothing but stick shift cars - maybe a dozen - until I came to the US. Since then it has been nothing but automatic, except a couple times some rental cars abroad. Now I believe I still could handle manual ones, but have grown LAZY.

Started shifting a 3-on-the-tree for my dad when I was about 8 years old. Used to sit in the middle and shift when he pushed in the clutch. No seatbelts back in the 50s. Started driving in the 60s and all done with a 3-on-the-tree old Chevy. Graduated to a 4-on-the-floor in the 70s. Now, all the cars we own are automatics. I'm now "shiftless". I miss it. Sold my last stick shift (57 Bel Air 2 dr HT) almost 10 years ago.

Stick shift. When I was 14, I was driving with my dad north from Mojave.he's been awake for hours and Das feeling tired, so he looked over and asked 'want to learn how to drive?'... Yes. So he taught me how to shift, brake, accelerate and drive avw van for 20 minutes. Then took a nap while I continued on. Of course, the winds came up and made things more exciting. I went through 3 small towns before he woke up. Exciting times.

I love driving a vehicle with a manual transmission. I was heartbroken when the pickup truck manufacturers stopped making them. My favorite was a 5-speed S-10 with a Vortec V-6, 4WD. that thing was a beast! I used it to pull full-sized vehicles out of ditches several times! Too bad it rusted out (I live in PA). I miss that truck. When I traded it in, it had 140k miles on the original clutch!

To show you how od i am, my dad taught me to drive a 4 speed on a 1947 international 3/4 ton that you had to double clutch going up and down. You couldn't start in 2nd gear either. You had to start in granny gear. my first car was a 1954 chevy Belair with the old 235 straight six with 3 on the tree. Once you started, you could shift through the gears without the clutch as long as you hit the rms right. I also learned to drive and split shift a 15 speed GMC bobtail truck. Good memories. Keep up the good work sir.

I did my initial drivers test/exam driving my mother's 64 3/4 Mustang with a straight six 200 with a 3-speed stick shift - in the rain- with the defrosters not working - as I parallel parked. Luckily, I passed. Later, I inherited my father's 1970 Ford F100 that was a three on the tree manual transmission.

I took my drivers test in a 1978 Subaru wagon, 4 speed stick, no power steering or power brakes. One of the best trucks I ever owned was a 1989 F150 XLT with the 300 and 5 speed Mazda made transmission. I sold it with 190,000 miles on it. Didn't burn any oil and you could shift up and down though every gear via rev matching and not use the clutch. Electronic gremlins in the engine controls were that trucks primary problem.

I'm it's only driver so I wasn't worried about the u-joints failing at 15-20mph...! Anyway, glad to see it's finally getting fixed...! Learned how to drive a manual on farm trucks. My first car was a 1972 Volkswagen Beetle. Living in the interior of BC Canada my 40 horsepower VW motor wasn't the quickest going up hill. So, I learned how to heel and toe. For those of you who don't know, heel and toeing means placing your right foot on the brake and gas petal at the same time, then rocking your heel (on the gas petal) as you pressed on the brake to keep the RPM's up. The Idea was to 'enhance' you corner exit speed as you shifted down a gear. Did it work? As best as a 1974 40 horsepower VW could give you! If nothing else, it as fun!
