1. Windy is the only reliable weather app. It's reliable even with the crazy weather of Southeast Asia. (I'm not getting paid to say this) 2. August was when the rain started. It rained us out in August some years ago too. We live on rainy Samui. It's hard to find a place now, immigration is flooded primarily with people escaping a certain country, but also general tourism return. It used to be paradise compared to now.

We are in Ko Tao now and had a spontanous Beach Clean Up:) we just grapped some gloves and a bag and in 15min the Beach was clean again with the help of 6-8 beach visitors. Can't wait for Samui!

That's a very relax mode place too stay if it's raining. I'm a sucker for raining weather especially with lightning and thunder. I sleep and relax more. Don't know the situation up.there but people need to not litter but to take care the aina ( land ).....even here in Hawaii have the same problem. Sometimes I guess can't help when it gets windy and the trash gets blown out to the ocean. Anyway great video and keep it coming!!

Thanks for the update. I'm there on 01/01 and staying for 12 days. Yes, the weather there is not particularly good this time of the year. Huge storms and flooding. I have been stuck on the island before with all modes of transport shut down. There are worse places to be stranded!

Crystal Bay is the first place I stayed at when I came to Samui in June. It still is one of my favorite beaches on the island. The water was so calm in the summer and there was no trash on the beach. That's a great recommendation to hit up Northern Thailand from October to January-ish then come to the islands to escape the burning season that typically starts in February up North. I'll have to try Rossini when I'm back this January. Rental prices in Koh Samui are ridiculously high right now for villa, house and hotels. I'm hoping they drop back down in mid January.

We booked our 3 day beach front vaca right at crystal bay and the whole time is was thunder-storming. We ended up renting a car and touring the island & heading to the mall to catch a movie. We found it rained in the after noon but mornings and evenings were clear , great for the outdoor markets (deff check out fishermans bay! best night market in all of thailand)

Kudos to you both! :) Question: I'm in SE Asia now but won't have time to make it to Koh Samui :( However, it seems we both value the same things in terms of where to live on an island (e.g., peace and quiet, safe, clean, pretty, minimalistic (yet quaint/charming), connecting with the locals,, away from the party scene; but also being close enough to the benefits of more urban areas of the island (e.g., restaurant and grocery store access, fast internet, health clinics, dentist, airport, sanitation, etc.). So, if Flora & Note had to live on Phuket for a full year, what area of that island would you live, and what would be your go-to beach over there? In other words, the neighborhood area and go-to beach of Koh Samui that you like most is tantamount or corresponds to which area(s) of Phuket? Thanks!

Where I used to live for 12 years in my made from scratch beautiful house close to the beach which I still own. Moved on to Nakhon Sawan where my Thai wife wanted to be and have a nice house in a quiet Thai village my house on Ko Samui was a farang one.

I went to Koh Samui early December 2022. MISRABLE. Rained several times per day for 2 weeks. The sea looked dirty. Lots of crap was washed ashore. Water level rose so high I was worried my bungalow would flood. Luckily I had food, 3 orders were cancelled from the Grab app.

I was there 15-23 Dec and it was great. Only one completely overcast day in that time. About 4 days were all sun (in Chaweng at least), the rest were a mix of sun / light overcast.
