I saw a raised garden bed in one of my neighbor’s yard and thought, “Hey- we can do that!” and I showed my son your videos and plans. But the yesterday when we drove by, I noticed the bottom was sagging from the weight of the soil and water- obviously not one of your plans, but we’re putting a board along the bottom to prevent that so no one will drive by and think, “What a couple of shmucks that built that!” You know… like how I’m judging my neighbors, now. Love your videos!

7:15 A tip I've always used when assembling and I have something tall I want to stand up vertically while I'm nailing (drilling, screwing, etc.) something flat to its bottom edge, is to support the vertical piece with a simple cardboard carton and a clamp. I keep several of a larger size box folded flat for storage needs, so I quickly fold one into its box shape, set a weight inside (gallon of paint, jug of water, something to make the box heavier than the piece so it won't tip or scoot), and clamp the top edge of the box to the vertical piece I'm assembling. The box side is nearly 90 degrees, not always perfect, but then again neither is having the vertical piece all wobbly. Then when I'm done, put the weight back where it was, unfold the box flat again and store, all done.

Thank you for the content and the free plans, I wanted to say I've found you can clamp one of the sides to your workbench on the leg below where you will put the width pieces. It holds that one from tipping and sliding pretty good with just the one clamp, even the long ones. Then both your hands are free to tighten the other boards up and nail. Hope this is helpful. I really like this build, in fact I'm going to use this build for a client and my wife wants me to build her a garden box for our back porch 1ft by 4ft. I have recently built a 2ft by 4ft a lot bigger and heavier for a client. Instead of usung fence pickets, I use pallets. I also really like your other video's. I'm a DIY Builder myself part time. I also build guitar birdhouses and custom birdhouses and out door furniture. I wish I can do full time. I hate my day job. Keep up with the good work and the video's.

I didn't have a book on guitar birdhouse. I did some reaearch on google on guitar birdhouses. Theres different styles of them. I kinda built my own by using my sons guitar toys as templetes to trace them on the pallet wood and cut them out with a jig saw. I still built a box on the back. If you want I can email you some pics of my guitar birdhouses to give you an idea. I'm been thinking about starting a new KZbin channel deadicated to my builds. But I can't do it full time and I'm kinda shy about going on video also. Keep up with the great build video's I enjoy them.

Another great video. Thank you for taking the time and sharing your knowledge and experience with everyone. Only minor gripe I have is that little brace piece on the sides. Perhaps extend it so it runs the full height of the side? I recently finished a planter similar to this but without the shelf and with some additional trim on the top and bottom of the sides between the legs. For anyone debating the necessity of the shelf for stability, I don't feel it's needed. I think that wood is better used making rh box more detailed or adding additional soil depth. I love to use screws as I feel it creates a stronger finished product.

If making a lot of these to sell I’d recommend making, if you have the space, a wall mounted set of 2x4 or something that will hold the tops apart at 16” could even make a set for the bottoms so just slide in and it holds for you.

I have no idea why this doesn't have 1 million+ views. I sell the crap out of Box H. At least 10 a week minimum, honestly more like 20-30 a week. I keep them stocked without the shelf under because people ask for them without the shelf. Just add the shelf later. Easy money. the only problem is having the space to store them before people pick them up, haha.

I have to laugh. I made something very similar to this based upon your long garden planter with the 16" legs. I even made the leg brace and have an option for the shelf on the bottom. For holding it all together while nailing it, I use the black plastic squeeze clamps to hold a board in place on the side I am not nailing, then nail in the end boards on the other end then flip it all around, take out the clamps and nail the other side. Curious what you do when you have to use a sliver for the bottom/floor boards? My current solution is to cut the sliver to size, then find a likely neighbor for it, something close in shading, and glue it to that piece and tack it on with some brad nails. Thanks again, bro. You da man.

Ayyy another awesome video! I got a quick question, when I make my garden beds I screw the legs together first, same with the walls to rather than the centre piece of wood (although I may consider putting a centre piece in), I also counter sink some screws from the inside of the bed into the legs. Not sure if it's overkill but I just want to make them last

If you watch the long planter box I screw the short sides in place, I just forgot to show it in this video. (Sad moment)

Nice. I would love to add rollers to these. This way I can move them when we get too much rain or too much extreme heat it too much cold to avoid freezing. I can roll them under my patio for extreme weather. How would you go about that? Maybe have the bottom like a dolly and add the rollers?

Been making planters for awhile now but enjoyed seeing your process as well. I have this idea on legs I always use one 2" and the other side 1 7/16" so they look maybe uniform being 2" around if you know what I'm saying but I notice you dont. Thought I ask your thought on that ? I appreciate the answers as I always do...Respectfully,

Great directions. I do not drill holes for the drainage but I do leave a small space between the boards. Also I do not glue incase the boards needs to be replaced down the road. What do you think?

Really like your builds! Nice work. It's pretty good of you to supply plans to help others build and sell these items. I only want to make them as gifts for people but I have a question. I can't afford that awesome plainer you have would you suggest sanding as an alternative? Again thanks for the great video.

I dont sand my pickets, I leave them all natural. Otherwise, an orbital sander and a 60 grit sanding disc smooths them out rather quickly :)

It would add time and materials, but feels like throwing in some screws would help for long term strength. At least where they can be screwed in from the inside. Also, been to Bushnell a few times. It's been a good 25 years but you know... Small world.

I didnt add it in the video but throwing some GRK screws in the end boards is what I do, since realistically there are only 8 nails holding the sides together

Thanks for the video. I enjoy the step by step instructions. However, during the video you mention that due to "blow out" of the bottom box boards, you recommend to run a board board to reinforce it. Could you elaborate on what you mean and how to do it. Thanks
@WhosTheVoss
@WhosTheVoss 8 ай бұрын
When you drill out the holes, it pushes little sharp shrapnel pieces out the bottom of that board. When youredone drilling flip it over and you'll see them. They just need knocked off, not really sanded

We interacted on messenger. Thanks for this build. I have sold two and have an order for another three. At a build cost of about $33 and a sale price of $150 this is the highest profit margin item on my list of all of your planters. What do you recommend as the optimal price point for this. Also regarding the lip, you don't add a lip to the 16X16x16 model. Would you recommend adding one? Also the 5000 brad nails at harbor freight have a 20pct coupon right now. So i bought rhem yesterday and paid only $10.89. That's a steal.
