Hi! My name is Anna and every week I summarise a parenting book or self help book - specifically focusing on the best books every parent should buy or read following positive parenting philosophy and ones that have made a positive difference in my life.
My goal is to help other busy parents get the tools and strategies they need to improve all relationships in their lives. Because let’s face it, reading parenting books is often at the bottom of our priority list when we are juggling so many things in our life!
This week’s video discusses ‘Raising Boys' book summary written by Steve Biddulph. The book tells us about the 3 stages of boyhood and what we parents should focus on during these stages to help our boys thrive - how to raise boys to be men.

So glad to hear you got value out of this video! I’m a big fan of Maggie Dent who is a mum of 3 boys who recently released a new book called ‘From Boys to Men’ - it’s on my list of books to read but haven’t gotten to it yet. She also has lots of resources on her website and social media pages

Thank you for this, your videos are brilliant. However, I'm not totally convinced there's much difference between nurturing girls and boys. I think our society has created this disparity to complement their own presumptions. In reality, I think girls too need everything that boys need! Rough play, role models, adventure, guidance from balanced adults etc etc. Just wondered what your thoughts are on this. Best wishes, thank you.

So I do have 2 girls (almost 9yo and 6yo) and a 3yo boy, and I am female obviously (!) and grew up with 2 brothers so my answer is based on my own personal experience. I do completely hear you that overall boys and girls need the same. Girls also need role models, nurturing, friendship and sport. But I also see a difference between both genders. I can definitely see that males and females are different biologically. With girls being much more into friendships and from an early age. And by that I mean that it is everything to them, very important and how they form their identity, with lots of issues and feelings to navigate. And I can also see that boys are much more 'physical' than girls, they love rough-housing much more than girls and actually need it. So overall yes I agree with you that you could take both this book and the Raising Girls book and use the overall message for boys and girls (which frankly is what I'm doing) but there are definitely nuances. And I'm sure you will notice that as your children grow if you have both genders. Ultimately each child is unique and I think it's important to attune to our child's needs so we understand them well and know what they like and need - but I like these books as 'guides'. Just my perspective :)

Whether you agree or disagree with me as long as you are tolerant. I believe we as a society especially us men, should teach boys of the next generation to behave like gentlemen. I honestly believe that gentlemen are the best men in the world because they do not behave like bullies and they also do not behave like whiners. Gentlemen are balanced men plus they are compassionate, discipline, and responsible. They are well-mannered and they show empathy for boys, girls, men, & women. They are like father figures plus they protect children both boys & girls from indoctrination, they respect disabled people, they aid elderly people, they listen to men with their emotional pain, and they are polite towards women by respecting their privacy.

Yes I completely agree with you. We need men as role models more than ever right now. A healthy balance of masculinity in my opinion is being a gentleman, in tune with their emotions without losing their protector/inner warrior spirit.
