Raising Millions of Softshell Turtle for Meat - Softshell Turtle Farming and Harvesting Technique

Turtle farming is the practice of raising softshell turtles and tortoises of various species commercially. Raised animals are sold for use as gourmet food, traditional medicine ingredients, or as pets. Some farms also sell young animals to other farms, either as breeding stock, or more commonly to be raised there to a larger size for subsequent resale.
Large and small commercial operations to farm Chinese softshell turtles exist in Thailand, Malaysia, VietNam and Indonesia . The Chinese softshell is native to temperate East Asia but grows and breeds rapidly in tropical climates, making it the most productive and economically attractive species to farm there.

@@JeffSmith-eq3kc Jeff that small incision in back was to separate shell from skin. He did not dispatch that turtle at all. That is why all 4 feet are still trying to move in a still alive way. There might be some muscle twitching and moving right after a dead blow.........but this little guy was literally trying to escape while being peeled. This is inhumane and disgusting. Yes I eat meat and hunt and fish.

So do you eat any meat? If you do then you are uneducated an a hypocrite. Meat just doesn't appear at the supermarket. Its animal and it was killed. Many are shocked by electricity. Heads cut off. Many are hung and gutted. Its not pretty. But people need to eat. If people did not raise them for food there would be very few animals. No need . waste of money feeding them.

Really, they couldn't slice off the head of the turtle before butchering it? The Chinese have a reputation of putting every part of the butchered animal into the prepared dish (example Chicken soup, you get everything including the head), but I didn't see them use the head for anything. Plus all that effort to gut it and you barely get any meat out of it, doesn't seem worth the effort.

Extremely hard to find this soup in New York. When cooked properly and fresh, turtles taste like a mix of lamb and shrimp. I had 2 turtles as pets for a long time. Their large tank had to be cleaned every other day and the filter changed weekly. Or else it would smell horrible. I cant imagine what hundreds of turtles in the sun in an outdoor pool that looks like these smells like. 😮

Nice video but maybe you should question whether or not you'd use the same method of cutting before death if the animals could communicate their unimaginable painful experience. A method usually reserved as a means of punishment or torture for a crime committed. Except in the animals case their only crime is being born..

These turtles suppose to be clean living in clean waters not in the mud. I like to eat these occasionally when I was younger, they are cooked as a tonic with a lot of soup with chinese herbs and shao xing wine. However as supplies go down, they start to use tortioise instead which doesnt taste good at all. I can tell the difference by looking at the claw. These days in Singapore you can't find stalls serving soft shell turtles at all.
