Clearly the unions and the labor party know nothing about tradies. If they did they would never do this.

It's not just tradies, it's all people who do hard physical work period. Their are many of us!!!!!! I work in aged care and it's hard physical work each and every day. What about factory workers lifting, pushing, pulling every day etc. Many job roles require extreme heavy work loads. Its not all tools :(

No, no, no … you hit 65yo and working becomes hard, physically and mentally. I’m now 66 and have 6 months to go until aged pension age and I’m clawing away at each day until then.

Many of the "tired" tradies are employing younger tradies to do their work, and because they now have to pay their wages, their prices are through the roof.

I have great sympathy for tradies here. As a veteran myself, I'm well aware of what the rigours of physical work do to the body. I won't last to 60, when retirement is mandatory in the military. I could NOT go to 67. And it surprises me not one bit tradies bodies give up before 65. On the up side, we're once again being presented with court ready evidence that Labor don't care about workers. And have not for a long time.

bloke I'm 63, with a coupler heart attacks in the last 2 years. I can't do what I used to do because I played footy for years but I also worked long hours as brickies labourer. I'm buggered now, can't get out of bed in the mornings with arthritis in the hands & feet but the govt says I still gotta look for 4 jobs a month & report to a job provider... I guess this will go on until I'm 67, or whatever different age they set the pension to..oh & forget about disability

Maybe they should change the retirement age to 70 for white collar jobs and 60 for blue collar jobs. Just seems fair.
@shaneodwyer3579
@shaneodwyer3579 Жыл бұрын
Then we may see an excess of individuals over time choose to enter the trades industry over white collar jobs. Not so much in high paying sectors like lawyers, ceos etc but lower paying white collar jobs like office workers and or IT workers. This may lead to a shortage of crucial workers in one industry and an excess in another, which would in turn lower the rates tradies can charge for there work as there would be an abundance of willing and eager workers and a large amount of young teens wasting 4 years getting a trade in an industry that may not be viable which would in turn harm the economy and therefore harm our retirement, health sector and other essential public services and of course lead to an increase in wages for relatively low paying white collar workers not saying this will cause any issue although I can think of a few ways it may.

Not everyone has to wait until 67….if a worker wants to budget and prioritise saving and spending and keep outgoings under income levels, go without luxuries, there is every probability that person will be financially able to retire early and self fund for a period prior to being able to access the Aged Pension. I think this approach makes real sense. As a worker I can attest that something very tangible happens to men once they go past 60….mental and physical capacity definitely goes into noticeable decline. At 40 plan on retiring early and make it a 20 year financial and lifestyle goal. Work towards that rather than living for today and having to work until 67 at least.
@TheSmittenman
@TheSmittenman Жыл бұрын
People need to start planning for this at 20, and remember the cost of divorce, and that drain on your pension fund. This might start explaining the dropping birth rate as men realise that the whole system is against them if they work

Retirement age should also factor in what a person has done for a living, doing hard physical work makes a body break down earlier than say an office worker,who physical effort is very light.

DON'T GET MARRIED OR START A FAMILY. NO WIFE, HAPPY LIFE AND RETIRE EARLY. Sounds like bad life planning to me. Doing stupid things like getting married/divorce and not saving and investing hard. I retired permanently at 48 and that was old enough for me.

If you can't afford to pay the mortgage or rent and costs of living are almost impossible to meet why would you consider having children that you can't afford to pay for, has the government considered this when they ask why Australians are not having children

The decisions you make at 16 as an apprentice are made with your immediate future in mind you are not thinking about when you are 67 that is a lifetime away and for these reasons why 16 year olds should not be allowed to vote, the reason labor wants you to retire older is so they can control your superannuation and not have to pay you for the taxes you pay towards your retirement, retirement is build into taxation paid each week from your wages, not so long ago 55 was the retirement age
