No matter what you get under $35k, you've got to give up something. The way they allocated the $ that they spent building this car is really wonderful. We're getting the Envista Avenir for sure. Got to consider that ANY car you buy new will in 6 or 7 years will be under pressure with high gas prices as the government pushes people into electric cars (raising gas prices). For us, this is the last gas engine car we'll buy. It checks all the boxes for a mom driving kids around town. My wife is short and can't see over the hood of the CX-30 with the way they made the dash. This is an extraordinarily practical car. People complaining about lack of power need to buy another car.

Really nice vehicle at that price point. Smaller turbo engines seem to perform a little better than the horsepower would indicate. It appears to be a good daily driver at a fair price. Which is something that is getting rare in today’s market.

But those smaller engines work harder, wonder how far over 100k miles will it get before it runs it's guts out. I mean we were told by GM to make sure customers know that the noise the 1.2L makes is a "normal noise"???? An it makes a noise.
@christopherdouglas8471
@christopherdouglas8471 Жыл бұрын
@@BrianWood74The question is, does it make excessive noise? Or is it just a different timbre of noise because it’s a 3 cylinder. Raiti made 2 points - 1 the cabin is very quiet. Period. And 2 - the transmission is well calibrated to keep the power coming on within the low RPM power band in the heart of the respectable torque curve. Unless you are coming from a 72 Buick Electra, I doubt many people will have any problem with the engine sound, or noise.

I think it looks really good. The body style is damn good looking. However what was Buick thinking when whoever decided on 136 horsepower to be a selling point rather it be the reason it may not even sell. I like the body but Buick could and should have given it at the very least 150 horsepower and truly that’s not even enough. Great review Joe! Hope you are doing well man!

I love the styling of the Envista. However, I have reservations about GM's choice to use a turbocharger to avoid making the standard three-banger engine too anemic. Turbos don't have a great longevity record and are expensive to repair and replace.
@martinmcintyre7623
@martinmcintyre7623 9 ай бұрын
I think you are partly right on this. Once vehicles of this type reach their second owners, the likelihood of regular maintenance goes way down. And with turbo/direct injection engines, it is crucial that you change the oil often and regularly. And do regular two-stage fuel system cleanings. Buick actually was rated #1 in J.D Power sales satisfaction last year. And with this vehicle being a FWD (four good winter tires on a FWD is safer than all-season tires on an AWD), you eliminate the complexity of an AWD system which can also fail. It might not be the fastest car out there but fuel efficient. And a great value for the money. So if you do have to fix that out-of-warranty turbo engine, at least you will have a little money in the bank to do it.

As much as you hate rear wipers, they are still a necessity. The rain will not just fly right off, and in wintry states, even as you're driving, snow can and will still stick to the window. Plus, the vast majority of people don't clean the snow off their windows before getting in, but they would put the wiper on to clean that portion. Now, rain and possibly some snow can fly right off if you put RainX on all the windows. I do every 4 months or so and love it. Also, with the sloped roof, im surprised GM didn't give this the rear view camera mirror. At this point, GM should have that in every model they make.

BUICK NAILED IT. THIS ENVISTA IS ONE OF THE PRETTIEST VEHICLES I HAVE EVER SEEN. I MEAN WOW THAT STYLING FRONT SIDE AND REAR IS BANG UP! ITS HUGE INSIDE AND LOVE THE STYLE OF THE DASH. I WOULD GO WITH THE AVENIR TRIM WITH THE LIGHT GRAYISH TAN COLOR INSIDE AND THE OCEAN BLUE OR PEARL WHITE COLOR ON THE OUTSIDE. AS FOR THE 3 CYLINDER THAT DOES NOT BOTHER ME AT ALL I HAVE OWNED 3 MITSUBISHI MIRAGES ALL BOUGHT NEW (2015 MIRAGE, 2017 MIRAGE G4, 2021 MIRAGE) AND THEY ARE A 1.2L NATURALLY ASPIRATED 3 CYLINDER WITH 78 HORSEPOWER AND 74 FT LB OF TORQUE AND. NEVER HAS IT CAUSED ME AN ISSUE WITH NOT BEING ABLE TO PASS OR MERGE AND ITS 0-60 TIME IS SEVERAL SECONDS SLOWER THAN THIS. EVERYTHING I HAVE READ ABOUT THE BUICK ENVISTAS 1.2L TURBO 3 CYLINDER ENGINE WITH 136-137 HORSEPOWER AND 162 FT LB OF TORQUE HAS BEEN OVERWHELMINGLY POSITIVE! I THINK IT SURPRISED MOST REVIEWERS HOW GOOD IT REALLY IS AND HOW PEPPY IT IS. 9 SECOND 0-60 TIME IS GOOD FOR A CAR IN THIS PRICE AND CLASS AND MOST DRIVERS DO NOT FLOOR IT TO 60 MPH LOL. FOR THE PEOPLE PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE (THERE WILL BE TONS OF THEM) THE POWER IS MORE THAN ADEQUATE. I THINK AS A WHOLE PACKAGE WITH SHARP EXTERIOR STYLING, LARGER DIMENSIONS THAN MOST IN THE CLASS, AMAZING PRICE EVEN FOR A FULLY LOADED AVENIR, GOOD MPG, TONS OF STANDARD AND AVAILABLE FEATURES, HUGE INTERIOR ESPECIALLY THE REAR SEAT, VERY ROOOMY AND WELL SHAPED CARGO HOLD AND JUST OVERALL THIS VEHICLE IS A VERY GOOD DEAL FOR WHAT 90% OF WHAT PEOPLE NEED IN A VEHICLE.

Cadillac just seems gaudy and Chevrolet just seems boring. I hope Buick can make a comeback in America I would like to see them build a stylish, high value 2 door coupe/ convertible as a halo car. The Buick is impressive and attractive, and the top trim price point is pretty darn competitive. As a current GM owner, I wander which vehicle, a GM produce or a Mazda product, will nickle and dime me to an abilivian after 14 years and 250k miles? Maybe GM trucks are built to last, if that's your opinion, but their cars, well, let's say, are not as consistent. Just a thought. My current GM vehicle I purchased brand new, and I've taken care of this car like it's the last car I'll ever own, and I've had to replace nearly "every" movable component excluding the engine and transmission, thanks to my own diligence. My friends who own Camerys, Accords, and Mazdas haven't replaced a 1/3 of what I've replaced in 14 years and 250k miles. It's the price point that always suckers me, sneaky GM. 😊

On the high end of the Envista Avenir if compared to a Tucson Hybrid Blue you get AWD, more room, more power 226HP, more efficiency 37MPG, Assembled in USA instead of Korea like the Buick, much better warranty, and adaptive cruise. Definitely worth an extra 3k to get the 1.6L Turbo Hybrid with 6 speed transmission. Buick will most likely be unreliable, and depreciate much faster.

$29K for a top trim SUV like this is actually surprising … very competitive. The styling is nice, but the 3-cylInder powerplant is a big question mark. Would have to drive to see if it’s marginally underpowered or downright gutless.

I test drove a Mazda CX-30 the day before I took out an Envista in Sport Touring trim in early October. The CX-30 did not live up to the hype - I found it to be cramped, burdened with an unfortunately vexing infotainment system, and worse, plagued by a jittery, unsettled ride from the front end. I was not impressed. The Envista, on the other hand, was a very pleasant surprise - sexy styling (that did not scream "Buick!") on the outside, comfy cabin on the in, and much smoother handling that put the CX-30 to shame. However, GM really needs to offer AWD (standard on Mazdas) and the Encore GX's 155 HP engine on the Envista, plus a rear window washer and wiper. (I live in central Massachusetts, so road salt - ya know?) I still have the Envista in the Avenir trim line on my list of cars to potentially succeed by beloved 2005 Kia Optima EX V6; the CX-30 - nope.

Beautiful car with a terrible engine. Drop a turbo 4 cylinder and add a mild hybrid system, and Buick would have something. This engine isn't strong enough for highway travel unless it has a manual transmission, then it would be fun to drive. If I ran GM, I would take the LS/ LT engine, cut 2 and 4 cyclinders to create reliable V6 and V4 engines to go with the V8s. Add mild hybrids to each for increased power and fuel economy.

love it but it definitely needs AWD for us in the Northeast. being developed out of Michigan where winters can be brutal, one would think AWD would be at the very least an option. plus AWD improves vehicles' driving dynamics. so would seriously consider an Envista only if it had AWD otherwise i would have to pass. being nitpicky, i don't understand why many auto mfg design cupholders so close to the gearshifter (whether electronic or not)...there is potential for spilling a drink which I'd imagine would be bad and costly to fix. BTW, nice comprehensive review.

It's a nice vehicle, but I think there is legitimate concern about the reliability of that 1.2-liter 136 bhp I-3 engine, because it's going to get stressed a lot with American driving conditions. Hopefully, this engine will work very well with regular maintenance, especially with regular oil changes.

Nice aggressive front end - good looking car. I test drove an st. Very comfortable. A ton of blind spots in the back of the car because of the sloped roof and small window. Engine had some good acceleration for such a small 3 cyl but that transmission was so jerky and not smooth at all. Mazda is definitely better. It’s built better. More quality build. More reliable because the Korean Buick isn’t built with quality or reliability in mind.
