I think the hybrid system is useless and adds too much cost, complexity, and weight. The old V6 paired with that dinosaur of a 5 speed auto was just fine. Also I just can't justify my self spending over 50K for a god damned 4 cylinder car. No thanks. Don't care if it gets better MPG. If driven moderately the old 4 runner could get ~19 mpg on the highway. And that's just fine. The new Tacoma which the new 4 runner is directly based on is reported by reviewers of getting no more than 22 mpg.....that's really not great.
@DavidWX877Ай бұрын
No one buys a 4runner for the MPG even with the battery you are only talking a 1-2 MPG better in real life and that battery will need to replaced at some point eliminating all your fuel savings if there is any and that is assuming the turbos don't need to be replaced before then.

I work at a toyota dealership. As we all know. The new 4th gen tacomas are now turboed through out all the trims. I notice those with the "fake" hood scoops (trd sport/pro) the engine bay is oddly cooler than other trims. I say odd bc usually turboed cars always have the hottest engine bay. But I notice they are cooled. If you take a look into the scoops, they are not block like the previous models. There is actually a opening. Yes it doesn't lead to like a air intake or something like you'd see on a maybe a TRX or raptor or something. But it does channel through the hood and into the turbos, blowing air down the to the ground and cooling the turbos and removing heat from the engine bay. Atleast for my experience.

4runner is superior in every way and built in Japan
@lostalxАй бұрын
@@koehh4652 Doesn't mean squat when the powertrain is a dud. GX is built in Japan too, you saw the hood flapping issue it has ? Lexus IS 500, my own car built at Tahara plant. Front Apron separation issue, Toyota TSB fix was glue and epoxy, that's a $72K car with taxes OOTD. That's your Toyota Japan. Lexus LS, massive failure. Toyota's good cars are the ones which are very old and still in production like RC F, LC 500. Rest all have compromises, ES 350 made in KY, USA is also a decent option.

Umm, like back in 2010 on the 4Runner. You were in a coma for 14 years there buddy.

Get mad at stupid government policies, not Toyota. They’re just trying to survive the strict regulations like everyone else. Downsized engines and electric isn’t necessarily the future… it’s just the future our government wants… which makes me question it entirely. I’m keeping my 10 year old Honda lol

Yes love the black gloss
@Eric_KModАй бұрын
Gloss black does not belong on a off-roader. It will look like crap as soon as you go offroad. ZONK all the gloss.

2019 TRD Off Road Premium is probably your best bet if you do not want electronics but want ALL the offroad bells and whistles alongside the PROVEN naturally aspirated 4.0L v6 and ancient 5 speed automatic.

Good to see you JOE my official car reviewer your reviews are spot-on and in depth When My Friends Ask me about a car or thinking of buying a car all I have to do is refer them to Joe Raiti and the Joe Raiti Library of vehicles, it's better than the Encyclopedia Britannica 😁keep up the good work sir

The 4 runner used to have it own look now it looks like a Tacoma I would have been happy with a 2024 4Runner just a new power train and some new tech they would sell thousands

kislux You are so well-informed about luxury accessories and bags. You've obviously done your due diligence and the comparison to the US is very informative...because of course, I live in New York. thank you very much.

The 4 cylinder engine is piece of shit, this won't last then couple of years, I bought my TRD SPORT in 2023 and I love it!!!!!!

Love the 5th Gen. Hate the 6th Gen. Will never buy a turbo or a turbo/hybrid. Not to mention the new telematics suite of data collection. No way never for the new way way way overpriced (basing on tacoma's insane price jump) piece of crap.

Toyota really should listen to the people and enthusiasts: V6 reliability, matte black fender flares and functional hood scoops for starters. Come on now!
@iloveanime1313Ай бұрын
if Toyota listened to idiots in online comment sections they wouldnt be the most successful automaker in the planet. you people are so fucking stupid lol
@shadykrook987Ай бұрын
Glad to see the passport have the v6, heard it’s really quick too 0-60 in the low to mid 6 second range for that size and can’t beat the reliability of that powertrain, standard AWD too is such a big win for honda

Hehehe... Nope. I'm keeping my '22 for a long time hopefully. It's not what I call fast but with the Banks installed it's not terrible, it's very reliable, and yes I had to change the factory shocks to get rid of brake dive and floaty feeling but now it's all good. Love it ! happy to have hydro PS too, not electric. best road feel.

New small engine and new transmission no longer built on top Toyota plant in Japan. The 5th gen was not based on Tacoma this one is 100% Tacoma

Great work Joe as always! The new Forerunner TRD Pro looks good except for the gloss black elements on the exterior. Those elements will look bad in a short amount of time. Forerunner buyers are looking for longevity and reliability, not trendiness. I am baffled how Toyota missed this.
