We have a 21 Rav4 Prime in silver with the black roof My wife loves it. i'm not loving the outdated center console. Other than that, the car is great. We bought it back in December of 21. Have about 6K miles on it. Most of the miles are electric so we are diplaying an average of 99.9 mpg. A little noisy when the engine turns on (which is only when going on an extended trip). We paid $2,500 over MSRP and it was worth it.

Thanks Joe for the review. We picked up a R4P XSE Prem as a jack of all trades car we use on our daily life. Stores by us and school drop off are within 5 miles and we easily can accomplish that without the use of gas as we are getting a range of 52 on EV now. We like taking road trips so having a gas tank and a hybrid mode that gets 39-40mph is great for that part. The options some may say are standard in luxury cars, but we did like the fact things like rear heated seats, a pano roof, a HUD, cooling and power front seats were available. Then there are the things that we did not need but it was nice that it was available like the adaptive headlights, foot sensor power trunk, a spare tire and a 6.6 charging capability that were added pluses. We were lucky enough to pick one up for the 51K MSRP with a 7 month wait. I can see how some would say that's crazy for a RAV4 and we did too initially. But, for our lifestyle, it was a very good balance and we do hope that the Toyota reliability holds true. As for the performance and speed, I do not think it's a performance vehicle whatsoever. It handles ok, not great. It is fast on a straight line but do not try running through turns with a Mazda. As for its eAWD, it cannot come even close to the MDX SH-AWD but it works great for the reactive slips in rain puddles!

This isn’t the first time RAV4’s were quick. The old v6 RAV4’s were pretty awesome. They’d hit 60 in the really low 6 second range, and sounded great. Here in California, there is about a 6 - 12 month waitlist for the RAV4 Prime, and it is much more expensive. Toyota is taking advantage of the electric boom. The regular RAV4 Hybrid is a way better deal, more than 10k cheaper. People really want this car, but Toyota is not making that many of these, probably due to battery sourcing limitations. Some people keep predicting doom for Toyota, but this is their #1 vehicle, and to the loyal consumers who have had such good experience with Toyota vehicles, reports for their impending death are greatly exaggerated.

I've been wanting one of these for over a year, but even if you can find one in inventory, there's an absurd markup on it. I finally decided that Toyota can %#@& off and I ordered an Outback Onyx XT. It may not get the kind of fuel economy I wanted, but it beats the Prime in overall comfort and utility. Toyota needs to get its head out of its a$$ and get more of these things out to dealers.

Toyota’s CVTs are horrible to live with. They’re noisy and project a strange feeling when being driven more than casual. We had a 2020 XLE (not in the same league as a Prime I know). The MPG was great, the ride quiet and comfortable interior room was good as well. Handling was surprisingly good as well. But there were issues. The elective drivers seat didn’t move at the same time when reclining; one side would always start and finish before the other side. Very noticeable. They start/stop was exceptionally harsh and hyper active when you put it in park; the engine would shut off for a second while you’d be moving the shifter from D to P only to start up again in P then be shut off entirely. The brakes made a clunking noise when reversing. The rear door panels had a noticeable vertical color/shade split right in the middle almost like it was on purpose. The window switch panel somehow got finger prints in it that never went away. And the 2.5 was loud and course (think rocks in a blender) when accelerating hard (but to be fair Honda’s CRV sounded about the same). The ‘manual shift’ mode was a gimmick as the car always started in 4th from a stop. The steering’s recent wring was also nice n-existent. Had it to the dealer to address these issues and was told “it’s too new to have problems” which we all know isn’t true. Our XLE was a good car in some aspects but very in-Toyota like in others. We got rid of it right before it hit 36k as we didn’t want to pay for repairs.

@@garrettyamada9821 Yes, on paper, the straight line performance is quite fast. I suspect the handling gets further compromised by the extra weight of the batteries. I also worry about the battery life and the cost of a replacement as I tend to keep my vehicles longer than others. Also, the RAV4 got too big for my garage, so not so easy to plug it in, and don't want electric cords on my driveway. I know a V-6 won't happen, but I still think it would have been better. I have no room for a Highlander and won't be pushed into the next class to get the engine. The NX can be had with a 2.4T but the price is high for the 0-60 performance of 7 secs IMHO. For better or worse, Toyota is not making something I want. Hard to believe that I am more excited about the Corolla Cross hybrid...
