Excellent lecture! My question is if the value we attach to literature is socially or ideologically constructed, the same objection can be made about any thing which is valued such as democracy. Instead of complicating things, we should say if a literary work is accepted by a large number of readers as literature, or if it has stood the test of time such as plays of Shakespeare, then it is in its essence literature.
@masoodraja21 сағат бұрын
Thank you. You can obviously have any opinion as you like. I still agree with Eagleton that the value of a text is socially produced and depends on what and how we are socialized to value something. The test of time itself depends upon the sociopolitical aspects of time, as there is no neutral time in terms of our interactions with the world.
