Rajendra Vilas Palace Mysore Summer Palace Mysore tourism Karnataka tourism Mysore Palace. Rajendra Vilas Palace is atop Chamundi Hills at an elevation of 1000 feet. A smaller older building existed here in the years 1822, which was used as a summer palace by the Wodeyars of Mysore, Royal family of Mysore. Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV was taught philosophy and English in this building. The conception of much bigger Palace was initiated in the 1920s. The Rajendra Vilas Palace was commissioned by Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV and completed in 1938-39. Srikantha Datta Narasimharaja Wodeyar converted Rajendra Vilas Palace into a Palace Hotel, it became a 4 star hotel that hosted many VVIPs. In late 1980s the Palace Hotel was closed citing labour issues! Rajendra Vilas Palace will be left alone without any care for the next 20 years. In early 2000s renovation work began on Rajendra Vilas Palace, but, again Rajendra Vilas Palace is left to fend itself to the harsh weather conditions prevailing in the hill top. In 2004 the property value was stated to be worth Indian Rupees 60 million. Rajendra Vilas Palace is the Kohinoor of Chamundi Hills, I cannot Chamundi Hills without Rajendra Vilas Palace, it's like a body without head. Let's hope n wish the Wodeyars will explore all avenues to restore Rajendra Vilas Palace to its past Golden Days of Glory and Fame! It's one of many historical heritage buildings of Mysore build by the Wodeyars.

I hope the Wodeyars will restore the Palace at the earliest, but, bro,the main Palace building is in very good shape, only the 4 chathri n central dome need some repair work, off course the entire building needs cosmetic touches!

Good job....im frm Hassan and studied in Jss college ooty road Mysore from our hostel building we could see this above betta view...first whn i saw i thought this is chamundi temple gopura...so daily i used to see from my 🏢hostel room window n pray 🙏🙈 later i came to know its Rajendra palce😁.... Sad to see 🙁 this beautiful palace gov n wodiyar should do something

Thanks very much for sharing your life experience during your hostels days and your impressions on Rajendra Palace. Definitely the Wadiyars will renovate Rajendra Palace to its past glory! One main point, the main Palace building is in very good condition, on it the 4 chathri and central dome has lost partly the cement plasters exposing the inner rod mesh! Even, if for another century no maintenance is carried out, still the Palace will be standing strong, may be the chathri and dome would have collapsed, but, let's be positive😃😃👍👍

The Palace n adjoining open area is private property belonging to the Royal Family of Mysore The Wadiyars! It is a vast property just it's running cost per month will thousands or lakhs! Definitely nobody will want a glorious Palace of the past to be wasted like this! I hope n wish the Royal Family have some plan of action to restore the Palace to its past glorious days Thanks 🙏🤝

I treasure n cherish my moments at Rajendra Vilas Palace The interior of the Palace is awesome n I believe the Palace building is very strong I just hope the Mysore Royal family open the gates of the Palace to the public similar to Mysore Palace or Amba Vilas Palace hence generating revenue to atleast maintain the Palace! If anybody tells me the Palace is in bad shape n can collapse anytime or it is haunted ,,,, I will not trust them!

In Chamundi Hills, the Mahisura statue circle you will get a check post, beyond the check post you will get the Palace! But, it is the property of the Wadiyars, private property, you need permission from the manager😀👍

Rajendra Vilas Palace belongs to the Wadiyars and Government will not renovate it but Maharani Madam has already started the renovation work and they are planning to complete the renovation of the Palace by the year end. A Hotel is coming up a la Lalitha Mahal Palace!
