Raya Gopura at Melukote part of Mandya tourism Karnataka.Rayagopura or Raya Gopuram is famous Karnataka tourism location. Rayagopura at Melukote or Melkote is in Mandya district of Karnataka and is 50kms from Mysore and 133 kms from Bangalore. Raya Gopura is a famous tourist spot and film shooting spot of Mandya. Famous movies of songs of Bollywood such as Dhadhang Dhang , Chinta ta chita Chita-,Movie Rowdy Rathore, Barso re megha megha or Nannare song- AIshwarya Rai , Movie Guru, (Sandalwood) Kannada Movie Gaalipata - song Nadheem Dheem, Rakshit Shettys movie Ricky Kannada movie (sandalwood)Ricky movies song O Baby staring Rakshit Shetty was also shot here. , 3 songs of Raja Huli, the Kannada remake of the Tamil hit Sundarapandiyan was shot here .
Tamil Movie Thalapathi-song rakkama kaiya thattu ,Thiruda Thiruda, Rajnikanth Linga, Padaiyappa movie is shot, where he sits and gives judgement and many more were shot at RayaGopura, Melkote, Telugu superstar Nagarjuna film, Manam.Telugu super star Prabhas movie Chatrapathi Songs : Gundusoodi was shot here.
The Incomplete huge structure has large columns of pillars standing tall for years. The locals have many stories to explain the incomplete construction of the Raya gopuram but the real reason for this is still a mystery. The details of who built it and how the magnificent structure was put together is unknown.
The place is visited by many tourists around the year and best time to visit is early in the morning .
Few Other places to visit within the range of 5kms of Rayagopura of Melkote in Mandya are Yoga Narasimha Temple, Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple, Shrines of Ramanuja, Academy of Sanskrit Research, Iskcon and Vanaprasta Ashram, Akka Thangi Kola, Dhanushkoti and Melkote Kalyani
Visitors can also visit Thodanoor a nearby town which is famous for the templs of Nambi Narayana, Parthasarathi, Yoganarasimha and Ramanuja. Thonnur or Thodanoor is also famous for its lake, also known an Thonnur Kere, which never seems to dry up even in the worst of the droughts. Thonnur is approximately 20km from Rayagopuram and 35kms from Mysore

Hi sudheesh the hours are unfinished because the sculptor's would have done a mistake in the construction so they stopped the construction further..ancient builders were very particular about the accuracy of their monument...so this is the cause for this unfinished structure

Vaishnavi Chola guru Sri Ramanuja Acharya was expelled by shaiva Chola king shivamara Chola in 1086 AD, he sought shelter under Hoysala King Bitti Deva, who was a Jain king, but inspired by the teaching of Sri Ramanuja Acharya, embraced Vaishnavism n became Vishnu vardhana, Acharya patronised and built cheluvaraya swami temple and yoga narasimha, bhoga narasimha temples, this pillar construction belongs to that period, it may be a fact or may be fiction that it was built in one night. Example, jakanachari built chennakeshava idol with a broken hand over a night in Kaidala near Tumkur and God blessed him he got back his hand which he only severed when his son dankanachari challenged his father without really knowing him to be his father. like this incident, this tale of gopura of melukote, might also be a real fact who knows, correct me if I am wrong.

Yes, Bittideva became vishnuvardhana, what I read. Jakkanacharya was the supervisor of thousands of shilpis, he might ordered to finish the temple in one said night..... But, you think about the real workers and the hard labours of those days who made this great job the kings who decided to do. 🙏.

Dear Its not an unfinshed temple... actually it was an prototype for how to build the temples.... Its was an learning architectural institute for temple builders. You can see clearly in the rock bed of various version of temple's template carved and also it begins from the basic plain layout till its completion. Observe carefully brother you can make it out....
