The Old Man and The Three is BACK! And we have an amazing interview in store for you all. This week, JJ Redick welcomes in Rajon Rondo (The Boston Celtics / Los Angeles Lakers / Chicago Bulls & more). Tommy is at The World Cup supporting Team USA so it's just JJ and Rondo this week. We're psyched to be back so let's get to it!
Topics include: Rondo's first impressions of being JJ Redick's teammate in high school. What those early days with the Celtics were like and why he requested a trade his rookie season. Being teammates with Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen. What made Kevin Garnett SUCH an amazing teammate. Why he thinks the game DIFFERENT and what basketball intelligence means to him. Trying to outsmart Brad Stevens and Erik Spoelstra during his time with LeBron James and The Los Angeles Lakers, his injury that signified the end of his time in Boston, what he's learned from coaches like Doc Rivers, Rick Carlisle and George Karl, why he thinks the Dwyane Wade, Rondo, Jimmy Butler Chicago Bulls teams didn't work, feuding with Chris Paul, battling Kobe Bryant and The Los Angeles Lakers in the Finals, how he views his career as a whole and so much more.
Subscribe to The Old Man and The Three podcast w/ JJ Redick (ESPN / First Take) and Tommy Alter KZbin channel today for more NBA analysis, player interviews and highlights.

Definitely! Rondo knew his role and didn't try to be more than what he was unless he needed to be. He could score if he needed to but was cool with playing defense and passing. Was a crafty rebounder as well. Every night he was a walking triple double threat, but didn't chase the stats.

I feel like Rondo being your favorite point guard is a personality trait 🤣 so many people feel the same way. That 08 Celtics team broke the nba and a 24 year old was the point guard with no experience, no nothing and he looked like the wisest, highest IG player on the best team. Great time to be a ball fan.

Rondo is my favourite point guard of all time, I used to watch him as a little kid when he played for Boston and remembering how beautifully he played the game, how he would dive for every ball, go for any steal, completely lock up his opponents on the court. He would make the craziest passes, his style of play had so much swagger to it all while he so quiet at the same time. having such a big impact all while not being the top scorer of each game. I loved his style of play so much I remember trying to play like him, I was a short kid 4’9” in middle school didn’t make the basketball team, I couldn’t shoot or score the basket if my life depended on it😂 When I got to highschool I grew a little taller not much to 5”4 and I tried out for the team, still couldn’t shoot the best but I made it finally. Although I was shortest player on team I was fast and I was agile, shifty. my defence was my top priority, I boxed out every play offensively or defensively, played hard on defensive I was the most annoying defensive player like because I was reading passes and often disrupting plays causing loose balls (which I dove for everytime), I had the most steals on the team and disruptions and I was never a starter. In my last year my team won our city championship because I boxed out and secured a rebound against the best and most athletic player on the opposite team who towered over me. We were tied up heading into the final seconds of the 4th , that rebound led to an inbound pass that scored the final shot of the game. Thank you Rondo, without your inspiration I would have never made that team and experienced something like that without it. I wish you played with lebron one more year after that chip,‘your impact on that Celtics chip was huge and it was huge for the 2020 laker chip, a damn legend. HOFer, has a ring for the 2 organizations with the most championships in the NBA and nba rivals, one of my favourite PG of all time the behind the back fake pass layup package was unstoppable ,

Rondo was a great rebounder because he has gigantic hands, could snatch the ball out of the air with ease. It's the same reason he was able to do that behind-the-back fake move that left so many opponents completely out of position. He was also really quick, and could sneak around guys to grab boards. He was one of my favorite Celtics to watch ever, such a creative and crafty player, who always gave everything he had. Wish he could have played his whole career in Boston, but not many guys can say they've won a title with the Celtics AND the Lakers. Definitely deserves to go into the Hall of Fame.

To have "differences" with a fellow HOF PG and still being able speak on his name in high regards... Great interview and a NEEDED perspective from an all-time great.

I miss the days when the Chicago Bulls had Rajon Rondo, Dwyane Wade and Jimmy Butler. Back then, Butler and Wade used to criticize the Bulls' young players.

back when we had heart, no one could replace Noah, Jimmy, Taj, Hinrich. 2017 was probably the last of a Bulls team with some passion and toughness. we need those type of players man

That was one of the worst bulls teams in recent memory. It was assembled not to win games, but to put butts in the seats and at the end of the season for wade and rondo to say what a great org Chicago had to help mend the teams reputation among other free agents..... It didn't work.

2022 bulls maybe didn't have toughness so much but they had heart. Lonzo anchored the defense and oiled the machine, but once he went down it fell apart@@amadiolanrewaju-demus6618
