I doubt if earth's curvature has any role to play. You are confusing "over the horizon" early warning radar capability with BVR. Today's BVR missile seeker along with the on board radar does the job of scanning and "seeing" the target which was eralier done by human eye. An object the size of F16 is almost invisible to human eye at a range of more than 30Km but the radar and missile seekers can "see" it. Hence the name beyond visual range. Although certain type of primary radars can see over the horizon, these type of radars are not used on fighter jets and missile seekers. The air to air missiles of today can not "see" an aircraft flying low behind a mountain range.

Astra is not for fighter jets, but for slow moving aircrafts like AWACS , india still lacs BVR capabilities against fighter jets . Our only reliability is on meteors .. we have too few to tackle Pakistan Air force's capabilities
