Raleigh Grifters

A quick video of my Raleigh Grifters, I thought a few people would be interested in looking at them and hearing a bit of background about them. I still consider them one of the best bikes of that era.

A cracking display of Grifters here Paul bro ! ..my old mate Rod Boyle had one when we were kids.. his was silver and I had the Fizzy Lemon Chopper (as you know !) Sadly my mate Rod died last year aged 57.. but he'd have loved to see this video !! I have very happy memories of us both racing down a hill near Watford on one of our many adventures !! I had another friend from Romford, Essex.. went to his wedding about 30 years ago now and we all got mashed !! lol

Hi Andy sorry to hear about your friend. I was brought up in Romford born in oldchurch Hospital (now gone) lived on the Waterloo Estate near the Brewery for years even used to be a Romford skinhead causing havoc especially round the fountain ⛲ Great days cheers 🥂

@@paulmartin4971 Ha ha ! Happy days indeed Paul mate !! ..there were a load of skinheads in Watford too.. I always got on very well with them ! Yeah Rod just dropped dead mate walking his dog ! ..I suppose he had a heart attack ! All my old memories in Watford are slowly being removed by development.. yeah cheers to you too bro !!

@@DavidSmith-yo7pf Hi David and thanks for the comment, totally in agreement when kids were hardcore when you could have a bad stack and just get up and carry on and not go running off to mummy lol 😂. We used to live on our bikes doing stunts and jumps and we loved it. Happy 😊 memories and happy days. I still ride my Grifters and choppers now and I'm 58 and you can't wipe the smile off me face. Lovely Grifters Paul. I hope Raleigh remake these great bikes again but I fear they won’t be as good. I’m 51 and a lot of my friends had Grifters on our housing estate in Bethnal Green, east London but they were bloody expensive unfortunately. One of the saddest things was selling Raleigh to a foreign firm and destroying an entire community that viewed the factory as family.

Hi mate yes am in total agreement they were great bikes weren't they and yes would love to see a remake of the mk 1 that would be so cool 😎. These are awsome, I'm on that age of feeling such nostalgia for these things and can't help but want another blue Grifter like I had back in the day. Question for you, how are these to ride as an adult? Are they fine or does it really look and feel like you're riding a childs bike? Only ask as I haven't seen one of these since I owned one as a kid so difficult to scale now. Great vid btw, lovely trio you have there.

Hi and thanks for the comment!! It doesn't feel any different to ride one of these as an adult it's so fun and comfortable. Well thanks for that.... I would keep and never part with the red original mk 1, the paint is a bit rough but I just love it really looks the part. Roll on summer lol 😂 cheers 🥂

Yes, any sort of content on these would be nice. To see 3 on the same video is lovely. I've got a little channel, only 30 or so subs, mainly raleigh burners and a chopper, I've got a video going out in the next few days, I'll give you a mention. Good luck with the channel

Bonjour mate it all depends on condition. These bikes started production in 1976 till 1981. The mk1 Grifter is the most sought after prices range from £200 up to about £800. The mk2 which is my silver bike are about £450 ish. Have a look on Ebay UK as there are quite a few on there. Thanks for the comment. Cheers 🥂 mate.
