Ralf van Otterdijk is the Data & Analytics Lead in MSF (Médecins Sans Frontières), responsible to execute the Data & Analytics strategy. With a background in Biomedical Sciences, he joined UNAIDS in Kenya to better understand the humanitarian sector where he found his passion for data. 7 years ago, a data traineeship in Amsterdam opened Ralf’s path with MSF. Today, he is dedicated to maximize the value derived from data across the organization, to improve the efficiency, and effectiveness of MSF’s humanitarian mission.
Ralf explains how MSF has changed throughout the years. From an organization heavily reliant on ad hoc Excel reporting, to its current state as an organization with a well-established data landscape which is trying to adopt advanced analytics to steer its humanitarian operations. In this keynote, he highlights the major challenges and success encountered during this journey.
