I originally tasted the SC:01 during an online tasting, with Bruichladdich. The whisky club I was with at the time had some early release bottles. I immediately purchased one of the club bottles left over and an extra for later. It is a great replacement for the Octomore 10.2 (prices have gotten silly now) and cheaper to boot!! Very refined for a heavily peated whisky, the casks shine.

Thank you for these couple of videos! Bruichladdich is my favourite distillery, but I'm increasingly having a discussion in my head about value. They make great whisky, provide over 100 jobs on Islay, present whisky naturally and really take pride in their work. I'm increasingly feeling they are going down the high premium route, with their bottlings increasing in price year on year. It almost feels like they're gradually taking their product out of my hands which is worrying to an extent. I appreciate that Ralfy takes value into account and can confidently say that at 110 pounds, this Port Charlotte is worth it. Is Octomore worth it at this point?

Both are Not worth at all!! Prices went up because you have to pay expences and profits to Corp B who managing currently Bruichladdich Distillery. They slowly becomes new diageo. No doubts 🤬

Had the pleasure of comparing PC10, PC Barley 2014, PC PMC (pomerol cask), MC (marsala cask) together. Happy days. PMC is their best offering I have tried thus far and PC10 is a classic by now, they all worth what you pay for, when compared to other stuff that is around at a similar price. Pure quality. I would however have liked them being tad cheaper (by a tenner), still no regrets.

I've really enjoyed the OLC01 and the SC01 was also good, but I have found not all in this cask series from Port Charlotte are worth the money. The PMC01 just didn't hit at all. The wine casks didn't integrate well with the peat, just felt disjointed and jarring to have it. So for sure in the future I'll be more careful on which ones of these I buy. Granted not the kind of bottle most stores would have a bottle open to sample.

Hi Ralfy, I was recently gifted a bottle of a 2017 bottling of Ileach Cask Strength. My god, what an absolute belter this is. I'm not really sure what destillery the malt is from, but it's a great young peatmonster thats very complex and mature for it's young age. Do you happen to know by chance where the spirit is from? It smells like Laphroaig but tastes more like Lagavulin. I'm positivily confused :D
@martinlest3 ай бұрын
So how does one submit a malt mention?

Hey Ralfy, have you ever seen/tried the extremely affordable lochranza blend? I've only seen it here on the island but i'd really recommend it to anyone who sees it on the shelf and wants a cheap blend for under 25 pounds. There are 2 other very cheap and pretty obscure blends I haven't tried from the same distillery(or the new oen in lagg), Robert burns and the sou'western.

Can anyone recommend a peaty integrity malt that isn't necessarily a 'peat monster'? I have, on Ralfy's recommendation, Maclean's Nose; but that's a blend and I'm looking for a single malt. And this video is clearly telling me to swerve Laphroaig and Lagavulin. Still finding my feet with peat, so don't want to drop ~£50 on a Port Charlotte that may be too peaty for me.
