There isn't a 25% tariff on Scotch imported into the USA and hasn't been for several years. It only lasted 18 months and ended in March 2021. Prices are high in the USA because importers are greedy (cough Pacific Edge cough) and the market seems to tolerate it.
@adriannudelman4519Ай бұрын
Yup 😡
@SaltyCubanАй бұрын
That is absolutely correct. It is however a hold on the tariffs which are scheduled to come back like in a year or so if I’m not mistaken.
@11thstalley96Ай бұрын
True, and we didn’t see prices suddenly drop 25% across the board when the tariffs were lifted.
@richardbostan4286Ай бұрын
And Ralfy was also wrong about those tariffs having anything at all to do with protecting bourbon, which sells so much better than scotch in America it is about the last thing that needs protection. According to the Scotch Whisky Association's own website "The tariffs were related to an on-going aerospace dispute over subsidies between Airbus and Boeing..." The tariffs were intended as retaliation.

ralfy, enjoyed that analysis and discussion. Always good to hear about less expensive bottles. THANKS.

Sipping on the Old Perth Sherry Cask Strength Blended Malt while I watch. Absolutely all for the rise of blends/pure/blended/vatted/will it blended?/mixed/stirred/whipped and mingled malts.

It was a really enjoyable summer dram, for the price, it was a top buy. Fresh, clean, spirit driwen, a bit young, but well rounded, citrus fruit, barly sugar, and a bit smokey and dirty. And as soon as I got down to half of the bottle, I've got myself a replacement of this beauty. God knows for how long we'll be able to enjoy bottles like this in the future!

Hey, Ralfy!I £35 is astonishing value, today. How come others can't follow suit? 🤔 Pure Malt is the classiest sounding name, imo.

This is a fantastic whisky. Here in Belgium it was a bit expensive but well worth it. Cheers sir

Got a bottle of this in Pitlochry last year, Ralfy. A fantastic, moreish and vfm dram. Great to see you reviewing it.

I liked my bottle very much. A youthful but flavorful, fresh, clean Blend. Thank you for your thoughts on this Ralfy.

Glad to see you review this, Ralfy. The BSW (Blended Scotch 6 Year Old) is even better IMO at the same price

From where I'm watching (Netherlands) this episode was preceded by a Benriach ad. Oh, the irony! 43% abv, my foot! And I'm being polite here.

No tariff on Scotch in USA. Just greed by the distributor and middlemen

Difficult to get in Canada but I did order a bottle to a friend’s U.S. address and it’s not bad. I wouldn’t go to the trouble or cost again but I’m glad I could share this scotch expression with my husband and good friends!! Cheers!!

I just opened and sampled a bottle of this! Its lovely. Recently i got a bottle of Blair Athol off Master of Malt brand and it had a really distinctive ginger/fudge note. Cutty Sark Probihibition has the same kinda note (but more salty) amd ive noticed as does this! I might be mad but id love to know if Blair Athol formed a significant part of this blend.

Not about this whisky but can you tell me how Deanston achieve chocolate notes in their eg 12yo which is just bourbon barrels? Chocolate is usually result of sherry casks.

Could I possibly compare adding water to a whisky at the moment vs. buying a whisky that's already at 40%, to grinding coffee beans just before brewing the coffee vs. buying already grinded beans? I would bet the taste difference is the same in both examples.
@matthewgabbard6415Ай бұрын
No because the coffee will go stale very quickly if it is ground, unlike whisky. Still 40% is not great for whiskies. Scotch seems to work better at 40% than American whiskies though. Maybe because the peat or Sherry cask flavor still comes through. American whiskies at 40% vs 45 or 50 really is like night and day.
@jfgenieАй бұрын
I wasn't necessarily comparing how "quick" ground coffee gets stale compared to whisky, but more about the "difference in taste" of old coffee vs fresh ground coffee, compared to cask strength whisky diluted on the spot versus 40% whisky in the bottle...

Solera is fine as long as they give a minimum age, but it’s irritating when there isn’t disclosure. Such as we see in the rum industry often.

On average I prefer both good blended scotch and blended malts to single malt, so many boring one dimensional over priced overrated single malts out there.
@BiBaBeluBaBАй бұрын
If single malt ist from one distillery only we should call this multi malt!

Adding that much water ruins the viscosity and finish. That’s just the way it works malt mates.

That’s definitely an opinion. Or, it just changes it a specific amount and delivers a different experience. Sláinte 🥃
