I can't thank you enough for your videos. You are such a highly motivated person and inspire me to make and do things that I don't even know how to begin doing. If you don't mind me asking how much did your build cost? And where did you learn the skills to fabricate?
@DirtyGarage5 жыл бұрын
Thanks man it's been a fun build. I had general fabrication skills from growing up working on cars, but a lot of it came from learning from the internet and lots of practicing and of course learning from people I know who actually are really good at it. I've got to add it all up and it will probably be painful haha, when I do though I'll put a video out on it!

Building the cage yourself is crazy unless you are already into welding. All the rally guys will tell you to buy a car with a cage and logbook or you'll quickly put 40k into a 4k car. Amazing work though man living the dream while I rallycross a Corolla lol.
@Maxdamilli0n5 жыл бұрын
DUDE. I watched a lot of your videos because I'm doing some very similar Fab work (not for rally, and thank God not an FIA cage). Very informative content, and you're doing a good job. But this video really was spectacular. Loved it. Have fun racing the car, and I hope more people find your channel. I think the only reason you don't have more views/subscribers is because there's a lot of car guys out there but not a lot of them take the plunge to build a real race car. But I've found it really helpful seeing someone else go through the same process of building a cage, methods, design decisions, etc. Rally footage should help views though! Bravo 👏
@DirtyGarage5 жыл бұрын
Thanks dude! That was an awesome comment to read. I think you’re right about not many people being too interested in an actual race car being built, especially on a budget since it isn’t very flashy, but I’m super happy it has helped out a few guys with their builds so far!
@Maxdamilli0n5 жыл бұрын
@@DirtyGarage well you made a budget build look professional. I had street cars for a long time like your average car guy, until i had my first wheel to wheel racing experience. Then, like you probably did, I had to make the decision to invest my money in what was my real car interest... Actual racing. Like I said, it's hard for your average car guy to relate to a roll cage build with all the specific details. But rallying is hugely popular even if not a lot of people do it. When you get more rally videos up I think people will start to discover and appreciate the channel. Who knows maybe you'll inspire new racers and they'll turn into builders like us! Keep it up!

I didn't get a chance to film any of it. It was all pretty straightforward though and I would recommend talking to the scrutineer that you plan on having check the car before hand, that way you can send pictures to him and figure out if anything might fail.

@adammiller21204 жыл бұрын
videos are brilliant, i am not sure what the regulations are where you are from but i have a few questions about the car did u need to get the roll cage certified as it is home built? also watched the on-board from you and your wife and noticed a tablet, what app was that as i'm building a rally car also and don't have tons of money to buy a trip meter and expensive gear, thanks
@DirtyGarage4 жыл бұрын
The car had to go through the normal initial scrutineering, which is very in depth and they’ll actually drills some small holes and make sure the material is correct, the geometry is correct on belt placements, and all the other specific rules. Then they’ll stamp the cage with the logbook number and issue the logbook to the car. The app is called rally trip meter, I think it’s like 40 bucks for the full version and definitely worth it. The accuracy is pretty good, but you can improve it quite a bit with a Bluetooth GPS dongle with a better refresh rate of around 10hz, the mileage tends to be off a little on longer stages by around .05-.15 of a mile with the standard 1hz GPS in the tablet.

im having a hard time on where to even begin with a race car build i have two cars 1 its paid off thank god but i have another note on my dodge dart plus 2 kids rent which is $1200 mo anyone have any suggestions other than save up cause that not the issue.
@logantrenkle16155 жыл бұрын
Well I certainly would try to avoid more debt. I think that saving up is the best way to do it. Take your income, and budget some every month towards race car building. It might take a while, but the wait will be worth it. You still have to be able to support your family though. You gotta balance those things. I suppose another option night be to pay off your other car as quickly as possible, making larger than minimum payments. Then, when you have finally paid it off, continue putting that same amount of money per month into your race budget. Just some thoughts.
@DirtyGarage5 жыл бұрын
I definitely recommend what Logan said, it's not worth it to build a racecar if it will only make your life more stressful with debt.
