I grew up around drag racing. Although it's a bit more expensive on the rally side, it seems like way more of an experience: you can land last place and still race the entire day while having a blast
@DirtyGarage4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I actually grew up around drag racing too, it’s definitely much cheaper and readily accessible to race pretty much everywhere, but rally is definitely unique and a really fun experience.

Airbnb and a cooler full of lunch meats, cheese, bread, etc. save a bunch of money. I think the roughest part of the expenses are unintended costs. My first rally we had to replace the radiator in the tow truck on the way there. Second rally we put a hole in one of the tires on the tow truck during recce (that one tire cost the same as what I paid for a set of gravel tires on the car), then mangled a reiger strut on the 2nd day. Rally ain't cheap, unfortunately. Highly recommend anybody who wants to do it come up with a budget that they can contribute to all year so they have the money built up for the events.

Packing food ahead of time is a great way to save a lot for sure. The unforeseen costs are definitely what get you and having a budget with a decent amount of extra, in case you run in to those issues, is a great way to circumvent having to break out the credit cards while you’re stuck on the side of the road.

I race in the california rally series for rallycross. Got 5th last year and should he holding 2nd right now. Hopefully we still have a season for the rest of the year

Honest question. How do you guys afford this? How do I get anyone interested is advertising/sponsorships?
@thetreblerebel3 жыл бұрын
I wanna start a local rallying club, or organization. There's ALOT of gravel rural roads in southeast missouri to go on. Along with 6 or 7 counties that might host an event

Yes dude, Missouri is perfect for rally
@joshingtonbarthsworth6313 жыл бұрын
We toyed around with this idea in Wyoming and got nowhere. Wyoming is full of perfect rally stages. We got to where we were doing really sloppy underground stages for fun.

Do you think an Audi TT Quattro would make a good rally car?
@DirtyGarage4 жыл бұрын
It would depend, I know of a few TT's in rally and they have done well, but, as far as I know, after market stuff for rally would be hard to come by, which usually means fabricating a lot of the stuff. Plus, they're pretty small and having extra space is definitely a plus with all the stuff you need in the car while you race. Most of the time trying to find a used and all ready built rally car is your best option, it's usually much cheaper and saves you a lot of time.

Do you have a video going over how much your car was to build? If not i would be very interested i seeing one!

I have one of how much the roll cage cost but not one of all the expenses on the car. Would probably be a good idea for a video though!

Great video. I am a bit scared to record my expenses but I guess it makes sense 😁

Haha yeah it’s a little off putting when you add it all up, I can’t imagine running a more expensive car and trying to be competitive in a faster class and be a privateer teem.

What do you think about 6th gen fwd celicas as a Rallye car?
@DirtyGarage4 жыл бұрын
As a Rallycross car it would be great starting out, as long as it’s not lowered. For a stage rally car though, you’ll run into issues finding parts that can stand the abuse of stage rally, which means it would mean most stuff would be expensive to fabricate and have to be custom. The best way to get a starter stage rally car is to find one that is already build. It’s usually around 2-3 times cheaper than building one from a stock chassis.

Hey, I’m 18 and going into the Air Force I’m going to try and hold my own car while I’m in. I’ve done local races up in Alaska where I live but when I’m out do you think there’s any possibility of somebody like me finding a team to join or at least to get started in the industry?
