Ralphie sealed his fate right here. Accept the boss' drink, break the ice a bit with some jokes, put on an act. But that whole gloomy demeanor And refusing the drink just oozes insubordination, and Tony was already paranoid enough as it was. Ralph should've known better.
@fatdaddyeddiejr
@fatdaddyeddiejr 3 жыл бұрын
But everyone in Tony's crew knew what Tony had done was wrong. You don't hit a made guy. Tracce wasn't related to Tony. And she wasn't Tony's girlfriend. Tracce was a whore, and therefore expendable. Even Sil pointed this out to Tony. Sil told Tony "You have to make nice with Ralph. Or settle it another way." Don't forget that other members of Tony's crew also talked about how wrong Tony's actions were. But they didn't say it out loud.

@@fatdaddyeddiejr Whilest all of that may be true, Tony was already starting to become unhinged. New York started to get under his skin and then there was the whole Ginny Sack joke ordeal before... Ralph really should've known how close he came to being whacked, yet decides only to distance himself further from Tony's good graces.

@@fatdaddyeddiejr While true, Ralph was far from popular. As time went on, he made more and more enemies. And as a boss, Tony could have Ralph killed if he wanted to. @@fatdaddyeddiejr A boss can knock the shit out a made guy. Especially if he kills a woman and attracts unnecessary heat and he kills the horse you put money into. One of the interesting aspects of this scene is that it doesn't seem so consequential on the surface. Tony offers Ralph a drink, Ralph says "another time", Tony agrees. No biggie, right? But if you know what led up to this scene and you know the aftermath and the context of what it means to refuse hospitality offered by the boss considering what came before, Ralph made a bad situation worse.

Lol, same here 😂 it's also the music... Many people here pay credit to the music cos of its "westernstyle" it adds to the scene. But I honestly feel like the scene makes fun of that overdramatized situation where two grown up men act like "too soon to look each other in the eye again", especially Ralphie with his drama-queen response "not the time". Tony at least had a good reason with the death of Tracey, but Ralphie? Drama-queen response with his "not the time, Tony." combined with that funny version of ghost riders in the sky... And then the priceless "you greasy cocksucker" look by Paulie 🤣

Great scene between ton and ralph. Ralphie was one of the most memorable character in whole show. This scene is remarkable for a reason. Sometimes we have to do something we wouldn't normally do. We all have to bend over sometimes.

Sometimes I feel that Ralph's entire character was to show how important money was to the mafia. Plenty of people were killed for MUCH MUCH less. The only reason that Ralph was spared, time and time again, was because he made a ton of money for the family. Eventually, he crossed Tony in a way that was naked and unmistakable. Had he kept his disagreements and disdain for Tony low-key, he probably would have been allowed to continue as he had.

I think, Ralph is a embodiment of Tony's dark and brutal nature. Ralph does not cheat himself about being "good", he is bad, he lives in the dark, he embraces it. Ralph destroys and breaks others lives, especially women, just like Tony's did but without remorse. That's why he is efficient criminal, always with cash, gambling luck etc.
