Great! Some of the most 'free' improv I've seen Ralph do on this tune, of late. Anybody know when he started using a pickup on his 12?

I would guess in the early-mid 80ties, since he was using that particular 12 string with the florentine cutaway on the 79 album "Solo Concert" but back then it was recorded with a couple of large and small diaphragm microphones each (probably Neumann U67 and KM84, see the back sleeve of the LP/CD, the engineer was Martin Wieland (Tonstudio Bauer, Ludwigsburg, Germany). In a live setup, he's using a combination of both pickup plus mic into the P.A., partially without monitor boxes.
