Great musician ! Lucky to have been in his only concert ever - as far as I know - in Athens, in the early 80s ! Unforgetable !

I'd be most grateful if anyone can figure out the tuning Mr. Towner used in his 12-string guitar here. Thank you.

It's in Drop D tuning!

@@tobiasplansoen thanks 🙏 Do you know where to get a transcription of this piece?

Yes it is in drop D tuning.I was very fortunate to talk to him about his 12 string guitars and he did say the one you see here is in that tuning. He wasvery gracious to take the time to chat with during a break when I saw him with Oregon. These Guild 12 string guitars are custom made, the necks have the width of a classical guitar.

12 stringers are really hard to play unless a jangly mess as backing is your aim. To play one solo, in front of a crowd, takes nerve!

hmmmm.... seems like the engineer only used the pickup-signal from this guitar, no mic, no room ambience so it sounds pretty unnatural and sterile. Ralph's playing is stellar as always but it's too bad that the sound is ruined .....

Ralph does not use a pic-up, but the sound is through a SM 58 Shure, which is a "vocal" mike! So, no kudos to the sound tech, but still, Towner is such a remarquable player that his playing transcends that limitation. I have about 10 albums of his and seen him 5 times.
