This wasn't a coolant flush. All you did was drain some of the coolant and put it back in. There's much more coolant in the engine than would fit in your container. The book says 18.7 quarts or 17.8 L.

How do you bleed air out of your cooling system after you change the fluid?
@jonburrows2684 Жыл бұрын
The world may never know.
@dennisjackson69985 ай бұрын
Remove the bleeder plug to the rear of and just above the thermostat level (it's a plug with a recessed 5/16 allen to remove). Add coolant till if lows out from the bleeder. This is the proper way to get the air out of the system. On most systems the temp sender is at about the same level as the bleeder port. This is an alternate way to bleed air out if you remove it and the fill until coolant flows out of the temp sensor port then replace temp sensor.

Soo most videos show the cap off the radiator and let it bubble? I watched several videos and no one said anything about the back up reservoir I did make sure I had a little bit in there. I did make sure I burped the system which I thought I was doing it correctly I was pressing the hoses I was seeing air bubbles come out I was pushing the accelerator more air bubbles came out the radiator sucked more coolant into the system and I added more into the air bubbles stopped. I thought it was good! NOPE! My new thermostat show that it was hot hot 🔥 but then it dropped down to halfway and then it dropped down the cold. So I'm thinking my new radiator thermostat is doing its job and working correctly. Then little further down the road my engine is smoking and the truck shuts off. It was smoking so bad that I thought I needed a fire extinguisher and called somebody! That guy I watched was an idiot apparently. Geez any suggestions? I have a 2009 Dodge ram 1500. Well I did. I see dexcool in every store. Mopar coolant cant find unless I go to dealer. My 2018 kinda looked like someone topped off with wrong coolant so I drained radiator filled with Flush and distilled water and drove for a day. Drained radiator, removed thermostat, filled with tap water ran engine, drained again, filled ran again.....over and over until it was all clear. Then I put dexcool in it. Only issue was that I cant get all the water out of engine. So i will have to drain radiator again a few times until i feel I have most of the tap water out and replaced with distilled water and dexcool. ( i have hard well water)

@WalterEGough4 жыл бұрын
I believe it drains the radiator and reservoir - but not the engine. The Chiltons manual says to also remove a drain plug on the bottom of the engine - was hoping to see that here but looks like he skipped it. The book says it takes a total of 16 quarts / 4 gallons - when I followed the procedure in the video, I only got two gal out. Also note that the factory thermostat opens at 203F (on 2014 1500 Ram with 5.7L Hemi) - he clipped this video from another one were he put an aftermarket thermostat that opens at a lower temp. Good video but always do you own research.
