Fun facts I learned for my 2012 5.7L Hemi Durango 2012 here. The rubber ring around the thermostat is the gasket for the thermostat housing. Don't try adding a gasket. Thus, housing bolts are tightened only to 9 ft. lbs. so you don't crush the rubber gasket. Factory temp for my Hemi 5.7L is 203° - not 180°. My aftermarket thermostat leaked onto my serpentine belt causing my alternator to slip occasionally. Non-Mopar thermostats have cheap gaskets that don't last. Bleed valve on the thermostat must be installed at the top (12:00 position). Thank you!

If you are changing to top hose, it is easier to just cut it in half and pull it through the retainer.. Other than that, great video..
@KNKRNRАй бұрын
We were going to re use it till closer examination and found the ends were swelled up. Yes, if you going to replace the hose cutting in half would save the trouble of pulling it through. /K&K

How do you drain the overflow tank to complete the flush correctly. Thanks
@KNKRNR2 жыл бұрын
You can remove the reserve tank which is the easiest thing to do to and clean it out. Other option is to use a wet/dry shop vac to suck the old fluid out via the rubber hose to the radiator, rinse with distilled water, and refill with the correct coolant. Those are the best methods we use in the shop. /K&K

I have a 2014 1500 5.7 sport and its over heating. Took it to the dealership and was diagnosed as the fan clutch went out. So inchanged that and its still over heating and collapsing the hoses. What would thay be
@KNKRNR Жыл бұрын
Change the radiator pressure cap. Its the only reason why a hose would collapse. The system needs room to expand and retract. When the cap is bad the system can't draw in coolant when cold and expand coolant back out hot. The fan clutch won't work if the radiator isn't getting hot because the system is lock up. /K&K

I am searching bleeder for my 2018 ram 1500 V6. I swapped Radiator due to a small crack. What i did burp it but seems is not enough. Works fine but only when going up hill accelerating entering freeway ramp starts to overheat. Reaches 240-245°F. Normal road driving runs between 208-228°F. Lately wants to stay at 230s°F it seems start to build up the heat. As soon I turned a/c fan full blast. It cools down, i turn it off it runs fine. Where this bleeder hiding?
@KNKRNR2 жыл бұрын
The only bleeder I know of on those V6's are on the thermostat housing. We had a 2010 Dodge challenger in with that V6 do the same thing. We replaced the thermostat, water pump, rad, and cap and have the same issue. The problem I believe is the thermostat design that simple doesn't let enough coolant through the radiator to be cooled. As a test I drilled 4 small holes in the thermostat so coolant is always flowing and now under load it runs 222F or less. There's something wrong with those V6's cooling system that FCA needs to address. I plan on doing a video about this issue this fall. /K&K

@@KNKRNR found it... ill bleed it before going to work tomorrow. Yeah even the housing is plastic. No longer aluminum or cast. What is next 😆 water pump to be plastic? Later the rims will be too 🤣. Trucks are getting expensive with plastic engineering.

So can a clogged radiator make the engine feel like it has surging power? My challenger overheated for like 20 seconds then stopped, no oil in coolant no coolant in oil, then later it over heated a lil bit right after surging in power, it’s a manual transmission so not a trans issue. First time it’s done it

Mass air flow? Dirty throttle body? Fuel filter stopped up?

I have a 17 ram sport. Hemi. Usually runs about 203. But last couple weeks. I’ve had it spike to 220. Then drop back to 203. Has 115k on it. Wouldn’t think it’s the water pump.
@KNKRNR2 жыл бұрын
I would blow the radiator fins out, you would be surprised how much debris that radiator can catch. By what you said most likely not a water pump if the heat drops down. Your not able to transfer heat out under load its most likely a clogged radiator internally or externally. Another possible issues we found with our 2010 is the factory fan clutch gets weak and doesn't speed up under load so that needs to be checked as well. At 220 degrees that fan should sound like a jet taking of at the airport. /K&K

Thanks for this I just got this newer ram and it was running around 220 and I thought it was just the phx heat but my rad was leaking so I changed it out and now the new one with new coolant after running it has some white stuff not a lot it’s not mixed in looks like stop leak but I thought of doing the thermostat while I was here but was like naw it works but thinking I might go back cause it’s so easy to do and not easy to replace engine

Does the drain plug firmly hold in? It right tightening mine but it keeps spinning. It was leaking but now doesn’t seem to leak anymore. But it won’t tighten
@KNKRNR Жыл бұрын
It should stop. If it keeps spinning its stripped out. Its possible it will hold being its on the low pressure side of the system. You might be able to just get a new plug or you might have to replace the radiator. /K&K
@TacticalNightBoy Жыл бұрын
@@KNKRNR Thank you for the information! I bought a spare plug just incase it leaks again. I just turned it as much as I could and it stopped leaking for now. Going to try plug first if it leaks again if that don’t work new radiator.

I have a 2016 Dodge ram 5.7 hemi the upper radiator hose is hard I changed the thermostat, upper hose and cap doesn't over heat replaced thermostat with 203 thermostat is this normal
@KNKRNR Жыл бұрын
That's normal the upper hose should be hard when up to operating temperature, if not it has air in it. The factory Mopar thermostat is 203F so you have done things correctly. /K&K

I swapped my water pump and thermostat. My 2014 5.7 is running at about 218. Why does it run so hot?
@KNKRNR5 ай бұрын
How many miles? Do you have heat coning out of the vents? Does it have a fan clutch or electric fan only model? If its running hot sounds there may be air in the system and coolant isn't moving. Did you use a new radiator cap? If it wasn't running hot before and is now there's a problem. /K&K

@MrTravisAl Жыл бұрын
Exhaust. Meaning engine exhaust is coming into the cooling system. not nearly as bad as coolant going into engine oil - which is really bad news - but still. Too much would be no good. It might be common to have a little bit on these trucks, but in general if you have exhaust oil in your coolant and coolant in your oil, then you have a bad head gasket.
