I am so glad I did the weather tech mud flaps they look way better and no drill needed way easier to install

Do they seem to fit pretty good?
@wayne21604 жыл бұрын
Tony The Truck Guy yes the fit perfect I only got him because hammer down Motorsports did his and I like the way they looked and previously had installed the ram ones on hes Laramie truck And he said the weather tech ones were way better and now that I have them I’d have to agree

Nice. I watch his stuff as well but didn’t see the mud flap video. I actually got mine at the same time I got the truck which is why I mostly got the moose accessories since I was able to roll the cost into the truck payment. I’ll have to watch his video.

I just added these over the weekend. I used my regular pop rivet gun with attachments removed. I just shoved the rivet in without the attachment, cranked away, and broke off the head once it had expanded the base. Of course, the head would get stuck inside so after each installation I had to remove the stems from the gun.

I like the overlap on the body but hate the pocket that you get on the inner most part of the flap on the front so I went with the weather tech flaps.
@bossstrick Жыл бұрын
Tony, do you think the stock wheels with 285/65/20’s fit better with the ram guards or the weather tech. I like the look of the OEM but they seem to have that hollowed out piece that basically serves no purpose? Maybe if that’s the rubbing point you could trim it away ? You don’t really see that part of the mud guard anyway
@TonyTheTruckGuy Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure since I never tried the weather techs. I do have another video showing me installing a set of small wheel spacers and 285/65r20 all terrain tires doing some minor trimming on the OEM flaps and it was all good after that. I heard the new OEM flaps come with some foam inserts in the hollow section to keep debris from accumulating, but I haven’t seen them in person. Here’s the other video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/jn3YqmeDfLKcsNE

You should do full rear wheel liners. Not hard and not to Expensive to do and it looks way better and obviously a protects better as well
@TonyTheTruckGuy4 жыл бұрын
I actually was looking for a truck with them already installed when I got my truck but they couldn’t find one within 500 miles that had all the options I wanted. So my truck came without all-weather mats and no rear wheel liners haha. I may add them if they aren’t too spendy.
@wayne21604 жыл бұрын
Tony The Truck Guy They’re not I bought them form my local dealership and it was like $98 bucks for everything which all I needed was the two liners and one bolt. But you may be able to get a better price online. I feel you on the option part my truck was the same way and it was a headache to get this one as they had it shipped from another state

@TonyTheTruckGuy4 жыл бұрын
Hammerdown Motorsports has a video on here putting weather techs on his Rebel if you wanna check those out. Otherwise I’ve been told that Mopar offers a different set of flaps that are just thicker rubber instead of molded ones like these.
The rubber ones from mopar are good,plastic mopar flaps will scratch ur paint

So the mud guards went over the existing trim pieces that were there when you bought the truck?

Yeah I mean I don’t have flares, but everything else was untouched.

Very detailed installation. thanks for sharing. I kinda wanted to do weathertech, but i think mopar will be required on 2021 laramie with factory flares.
@TonyTheTruckGuy3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think Husky makes some that work with factory flares as well. The only cons so far with the Mopar ones are the huge pockets on them that like to collect leaves and dirt and slush. The drainage holes on the bottom can plug easily, but I haven't had any real issues. I also drilled a few of my own holes at the very bottom next to the factory drainage holes shortly after this video.
@chriswilkins72442 жыл бұрын
Thx for the video. Is the rivet tool linked in the description the one that actually fits the included rivets? Also, since it’s been a while since this video, how did you like the OEM flaps? Did you end up keeping them or going with after market? Was debating between these and the WeatherTech ones since I heard so many complaints about dirt and junk building up in these ones.
@TonyTheTruckGuy2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that’s the rivet tool I SHOULD have used. The OEM flaps help Up fine, I actually sold the truck in November but no issues with them holding up. I did get some debris and slush inside the flaps like others have mentioned, but that really didn’t cause any issues for me. I later drilled a few extra holes in the bottom of the flaps for better drainage.
@oldmanslickville19184 жыл бұрын
Great video, thank you. Any issues with dirt accumulation? Read many negative comments on the overlap on the paint. I would think that is a great feature from preventing rocks nicking that area. What say you?
@TonyTheTruckGuy4 жыл бұрын
I can’t say about any dirt build-up issues because we have so much snow jere right now my truck is just plastered with snow and salt. I don’t plan on taking the flaps off so I’m not too concerned with the overlap because there is that 3M strip that should help create a buffer. My only complaint is like others have stated, the flaps have a large hollow spot where debris can get in. There is drainage holes, but dirt and leaves could plug those up. With me, it’s mainly snow and slush getting in there and then freezing, but that hasn’t really created any issues for me. Just slightly annoying.
@oldmanslickville19184 жыл бұрын
@@TonyTheTruckGuy speaking of snow & slush, any issues with the front cameras when driving through snow/slush? My 1st vehicle with frontal cameras and VERY ANNOYED when the alarm goes off when caked with slush.
@TonyTheTruckGuy4 жыл бұрын
Mine only has a rear view camera. But my parking sensors go ape shit when it snows because salt covers the sensors as well as snow. I turn the sensors off in conditions like that.

@@TonyTheTruckGuy MyBad - should have sated my front parking sensors. My wife's 2015 Lexus has never had this issue, very interesting. another question, assume you drive off-road, with just the towing package, have you added any rear hooks, if so what did you do?
@TonyTheTruckGuy4 жыл бұрын
I don’t “off-road” my truck per se, it does see a little mud here and there, but I don’t intentionally take it off road. Nothing in the rear for tow points, but I do have a clevis bitch that I can slide into my receiver and then added the front tow hooks.

My OEM one edges was sharp like hell... I was thinking doing more wrong than good with those... Did you have this problem?
@TonyTheTruckGuy4 жыл бұрын
The edges of the mud flaps? Mine seemed fine minus the part that you have to fold over but that just rests against plastic anyways.
@ataboytube4 жыл бұрын
Tony The Truck Guy yeah... mudflap. But mine are for rebel WITH fender flare. Really sharp(finger cutting sharp).
@TonyTheTruckGuy4 жыл бұрын
Ohhhh. Maybe because they are the fender flare style. Is it sharp where it contacts the flare?
@ataboytube4 жыл бұрын
Yep...
@TonyTheTruckGuy4 жыл бұрын
Strange. I would use a razor knife to trim the sharp edges or at least same them down a bit before installing them if it isn’t too late. Would suck to have them dig into the flare

Looks like there's a huge hole at the back of the flaps that will catch all kinds of stuff. Designe flaw to me..
@TonyTheTruckGuy4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I wasn’t too excited about that either. They do have drainage holes at the bottom but I’m sure they plug up a lot. I haven’t had any issues yet but they do pack with slush in the winter.

I'm trying to find a good set of splash guards for my 2019 Ram 1500 Longhorn with the electric steps, they get really muddy when I drive down a wet dirt road for off road. When I open the door and the steps come out they are just covered in mud. I'm hoping I can find a set of splash guards that deflect all or some of the mud. Thanks for the video brother.

@ramrider14534 жыл бұрын
Hey. Your gonna hate those mud flaps. My new Longhorn had those. I removed them and put flat ones on. Water and dirt gets into the hollow part. Adds a lot of extra weight. Drain holes get plugged. I didn’t like them. They also broke the clip holding my back moulding by the bumper.
@TonyTheTruckGuy4 жыл бұрын
I did notice the hollow part you’re talking about and they have plugged up on me a few times here being in MN with all the slush and crap. Probably leave them on until they come loose or if the snow/ice build-up becomes too problematic. May replace them with Weathertech or the flat ones like you mentioned if I have problems. Are the flat ones that you used also Ram brand? Or aftermarket?
@ramrider14534 жыл бұрын
Tony The Truck Guy they are after market. Have the chrome plate in the back with ram Longhorn stamp. Very nice looking but solid rubber flap. And long enough to prevent stone chips. I’m your neighbour in Manitoba. We get a lot of snow and sleet also.
@ramrider14534 жыл бұрын
Tony The Truck Guy Also those hollow parts pack in like cement if not cleaned out soon enough. Bad design and should have been designed with a closed in top. I like the look of those factory plastic flap but not practical.

pretty sure a jack stand should never be placed there. Sorry, not to be the guy pointing shit out but that aint safe.
@TonyTheTruckGuy4 жыл бұрын
Trust me, I didn’t prefer to put it there. There wasn’t enough room on the lower A-arm to jack up with the jack AND place a jack stand. So I left the jack under the A-arm and put the stand where I did as a fail safe. Hence why I didn’t say “place your jack here”.
