This guy is good. I’ve watched 3 of these with younger men. One even worked in a mopar shop. None of them gave the pointers to move that electrical connection out of the way nor did any of them tell us to be patient that it doesn’t just break and spin off. Also he has advise to NOT use a 12 point socket. I wished I had watch home first. This guy gives the details. Excellent. I have subscribed!

I replaced the fuel filter(s) today. I found extending the front filter drain hose with a 2' piece of 5/8" heater hose gets it down to the drain pan without all the leaks. Slip the factory drain hose 6"+ into the heater hose works fine. I did have a minor leak in the cap - the O-ring was not all the way seated. Luckily, the O-ring wasn't damaged. All is well now! I ordered the 28mm socket. I used a 1-1/8" hex socket this time.

I don’t usually work on vehicles but watching your videos have given me the courage to work on it myself and save my some money. Were you able to change the fuel canister drain hose from the top of the vehicle? From a first glance, this seemed impossible in my truck...I really want to extend it
@MarionBlair5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Raul, You can add the hose from the top. Put a hose clamp on it or it will slip off. I have the sizes in this video, I think it's 1/2 in the front but not positive. Run it anywhere as long as it's not laying on some thing hot. Tie wrap it also. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6iZZ6WvoLtpibs

This past weekend I did my normal filter change with OEM filter and water separator as usual. This time was different though. Changed my filters did the normal in letting the filter prime and all. Tried to start it and nothing. Spent an entire day trying to figure out why it wouldn't start. Come to find out after doing a quick search. The Ram forums had a post that someone had a problem and wanted to share it. He changed his filters OEM (BTW) and nothing tried everything. Towed to shop and again everything . Shop changed out the water separator filter and started right up. He received a bad OEM filter. This happened to me. Bad water/separator was sent. I put my old one back and an in minutes my trucks started right up. Two days later no problems.

For everyone who is about to do one of these and bought a NAPA filter. Don't do throw out your old O ring. The one in the napa filter package is too thin and you'll get a leak. Trust me my 2016 was pissing fuel and I had to jump in the dumpster to get my old o ring.

Thank you for your informative videos. Do you follow the change time interval or just the gauge percentage on your fuel filters? I’m not even close to the change percentage at a year like the manual dictates on my 2017 3500.
@alittlebitofeverything50903 жыл бұрын
Hi, I use the countdown gauge as a guideline. Sometimes I do it just before or a little after. I fill up my truck at the same fuel station and try to use the same pump there...but that's just me. I haven't had a fuel filter that looked dirty (yet) lol

Do you know how to run through the start cycles without starting the engine on a push button start? I just bought a brand new 2018 3500 CTD dually and it didn't even come with an owner's manual! The owner's manual is an app! I'm not ready for a fuel change yet, but I'm planning ahead, watching videos and getting all the specialty tools I'll need for oil and filter changes. My previous truck, 2016 2500 Hemi came with a lifetime powertrain warranty from the dealer, but I couldn't do any of my own maintenance or I would void the warranty. Thankfully, I don't have to worry about that with my new diesel because diesel maintenance is too expensive to pay a dealership to do.
@MarionBlair5 жыл бұрын
Yes, just don't put your foot on the brake and it will not start. You can cycle through until you hear the pump stop then press the button and cycle back through to run. it usually takes about five or six Cycles to fill both filters

Hi the filter resets the similar easy as the oil. Just toggle thru to the fuel filter on the evic and use your arrows on the steering wheel to reset it.

I just did my filters and it was leaking fuel out the top. Is that because the cap is not on tight enough or am I missing something? Now I have to find a away to get the cap off now because I stripped the cap top
@MarionBlair4 жыл бұрын
Geno's has a metal replacement top if it's just the cap that's stripped. It's possible the the o-ring was either pinched or not all the way in the seat.

Question on starting after. I have the push button stating on my 2017. Can you explain how to do that part in more detail. Not sure how to cycle it like you did.
@MarionBlair5 жыл бұрын
Hi, With your foot off the brake; Turn the ignition to on and listen for the pump in the tank. It will come on and run for a few second and it will shut off. Once it shuts off, turn the ignition back to off and do this again, total of 6 times and on the last one, put your foot on the brake and it will start. Let me know if this is not clear. It takes about 6 cycles roughly. You can go more or less is you want to try. Can't hurt anything other than endless cranking would not be good for batteries and starter.

using a bigger longer handle rachet and apply less force would be easier - like yu say - slow and easy - don't have one - use a cheater bar around the handle - even a piece of plastic pipe will do - 6 point socket is absolute -- good call - I blow all around before starting with high pressure air to make sure about dirt not getting in - I have ran my filters twice as long just to see what happens -- Nothing happened - I really did TWICE as much -- they look new -- i do not use diesel from small places to make sure diesel is of a cleaner nature though - rust and water seem to be problematic at small stores - when mine is half empty - time to refill - If anything looks dirty - I use brake cleaner on a clean rag to clean - not on the parts - If i use an after-market filter - Napa is ALL I use - they try harder - they do better - good fuz dem ! -- Good Show Mr Ram -- Torque wrench tight -- Yu da man -- even most workshops don't do -- tailholes ----- BUT -- when using extensions -- torques change -- read up on it --- the flexible end does also -- maybe even 5 pounds -- and i also do that wrong way thing now days - Im not 30 anymore it seems -- ahahahahaha - and just a heads up on oil - that oil has been gripped at because some vehicles use oil when using it - don't know myself - never used it - I just use Rotella full syn - people have gripped at it also - never had problems myself - put it in my tractors also - no issues -- thXx goodness - who says to cycle it ever how many times - I do mine 5 times just for the health of it not even knowing why -- hehehehehe - some say to soak the filter before using - HUH ? ! - what the fart does ram say I wonder ?

just changed both filters, and when I'm starting the engine, it starts leaks from water separator pretty hard. Do you know what can be the problem? How hard you tide up the cap of water separator?
@MarionBlair5 жыл бұрын
The water seperater is the rear, just hand tight on that one. You said, cap so I'm assuming it's the front one. It's got an o ring seal and you just need to bump it up. I believe 20 ft/lbs max. I'd not tighten it any more till you pull the cap off and look at the o ring. Sounds like it might have not seated properly. Ease that thing off with a 28mm 6 point socket and have a look. They can be a nightmare if that o ring gets jammed so handle with caution. Let me know what you find.
