13:58 It might of been Keenan Laws video on repair of the Cummins- Dodge diesel ECU. He did not suggest cutting out the diode, he mentioned you can go without it until sourcing a replacement if you need to use the vehicle.

It can be done but its pretty risky to run them with out it.

Depends, In this case many of the 59's dont have immos. The ones that do are easy to turn it off for testing. Even with out turning it off though you can do right much testing as is anyway.

I doubt I would bve able to find that kinda of issue or disprove it was in the ecu. If you suspect ecu it may be best to replace.,

Tvs diode protects the board when solenoid injector opens?

this diode is basically just for filtering out voltage spikes on the b+ line coming into the ecu. may help protect against reverse polarity as well but that usually kills it.

Dont really need any special classes. Plenty of good video's on youtube to learn all you need to know. The secret is to focus more on basic electronics first. Dont worry too much about finding automotive specific stuff. Just really basic stuff first, like learning all the different components, then different type of tools, etc. It all translate to auto stuff. Electronics are all the same, automotive stuff is just a bit heavy on power switching and sensor reading.
