This video is a bit long winded, but im sweating the small stuff and details to make your life easier if you are doing this repair. This can be done at home, and without a lift, but it is a tough job and only for the skilled. Key points:
1) At a minimum, buy the two flange gaskets in between the turbo and both exhaust manifolds, the oil drain pipe gasket at the turbo, and the grommet where the drain tube enters the engine block. Mopar turbo comes with none of these.
2) Buy an assortment of copper washers to have on hand for banjo fittings. Will need six 14mm copper washers, and two 10mm washers.
3) have a sawzall, good quality metal blades 9” long, and extended Allen sockets with ball ends for your 3/8” drive ratchet.

I would encourage you to buy a new reluctor wheel (magnetic wheel) for the crankshaft sensor as well and replace that, if you think it has never been changed.

The line in the back always develops a coolant leak. It’s hard to find. The dealership could never find it. It’s a big job to get to that part. It’s a metal tube wrapped in fabric, I believe it’s the EGR tube. I wonder if an aftermarket part is available to prevent the coolant leak.

I wonder if anybody has ever considered making a removable reusable exhaust filter for particulates.

Well it depends on your level of skill, but for the average diy guy I wouldn’t expect to get it done within the weekend. Allow yourself plenty of downtime with the truck. Have all the parts on hand before you get into it. If your doing it in your driveway or the floor of your garage, I’d consider removing the transmission and transfer case out as separate units. The transmission has a plastic oil pan, so with your jack up against it, it is strong enough to support the weight of the trans (assuming your careful and use a board to distribute weight across it), but I have doubts that plastic pan can support the weight of the transfer case too. Hence my suggestion to remove them separately.

@@tadsworkshop Thanks again. My buddy has a lift that I'm sure I can utilize. I spoke with another friend that is a parts manager at dodge. He said the parts would cost me about $1800cad. I also asked about install, the tech said 25 hours including the Reluctor wheel and sensor but he would do it for 20 hours @$180 per. They do it cab off though.

@@lewisboyd7977 damn, that is a lot of money. It’s a big job…but that’s a really generous hourly labor rate and an even more generous labor time. Just take your time and be thoughtful about what you’re doing. Replace the crankshaft sensor and reluctor ring (at least the reluctor ring) if you take the transmission out.

Does the coolant inlet for the turbo come from the heater core?? If not do you know where it comes from?

Under the intake manifold, the turbo coolant line goes directly to the passenger cylinder head.

Hi By any chance after you replace the turbocharger you have any warning or you need to sync the regulator with the ECM?
@tadsworkshop
@tadsworkshop 3 ай бұрын
No. Nothing at all. Use a good scan tool (I’d recommend Autel 808) and see if there is a relearn procedure for the turbocharger vane controller module, but I had no issues like that after installing the new turbocharger. Inspect for leaks, and make sure all electrical connectors are plugged in.

@tadsworkshop okay I have an exhaust leak on an otherwise perfect truck that is all stock. I can hear it clear as day, but the dealers claim it all sounds normal. I've been through hell dealing with them. It's tickin away, and I've had a cracked manifold on a vehicle before so I know what escaping compression gas sounds like. I'm certain it has a crack or leak.

@tadsworkshop I need to find the leak / crack and get it fixed because as a mechanically minded person, naturally this is driving me crazy. Could just turn the radio up but that's not fixing the issue.

@@calidrummin1760 hmm, I’m not saying it’s impossible, but I’ve never heard of a cracked or leaking exhaust manifold on an ecodiesel….I’ve worked on some high mileage beat up ecodiesels with nothing of the sort. Is there any chance it’s coming from the exhaust flange at the rear of the catalytic converter? I know exhaust leaks there are extremely common. I would look around for black carbon or soot that might indicate where it’s coming from.
@calidrummin1760

@tadsworkshop yes I'm going to get in there and see if I can locate it with soot trails. I've also seen some tricks with minimal pressure from say like a shop vac pushing air and using the soapy water method. Okay. Just curious if you were interested in helping me find it. Thanks man.

Tad you are one bad mama gamma🫡 all by yourself. WOW... I guess having good tools also makes the job Doable.. But hats off to you sir, New subscriber, and I own a 2015 eco diesel here in florida, That coolant LINE under the intake replaced on my truck, Watched your video awesome on that one too, Wow so many other things can happen with these trucks? You sir are doing an outstanding job👍👍 And thank you so much for the videos... One question, I don't drive this truck hard. And I change the oil in it about every 5000 miles. Do you think I should throw in the towel and get a new one? Or go back to my Fords? It has a 120,000 miles on it..and it a 4x4 laramie With Towing package, The truck basically has everything. Mood lighting😂.. You're experienced with these trucks you think it's probably just nothing but more problems from here on out?? Or did I just answer my own question 😂 Should I trade it in and maybe get a new ford? I just don't care for that hemmie Gas hog, Or do you have a 1/2 ton truck suggestion? Thank you, sir. And sorry abouthis super long rant..

Feel free to communicate with me here as often as you’d like. I’ll try to help. The only real concern I have regarding ecodiesels, is the almost random grenading of the crankshaft bearings. When it happens, they heavily hemorrhage oil from the rear main seal, just about the oil drain plug. The jury is still out on the root cause of this. You also don’t know what people are putting into their engines or what they are doing. But if you can do every one of your oil changes, I encourage you to do so. Honestly my vote if for the old Ford 7.3L. Find yourself a mint one. But bottom line, all the issues of the ecodiesel can be overcome, and my videos address all the major concerns, with the exception of the crank bearing issue. Chrysler at one point stopped selling engines for an “engineering review” and than resumed selling them again after a while. I suspect they found the core issue, but of course will never make that information public to avoid litigation.

@@republicansthatdidntvotefo1605 they are very cool trucks, I’ll give you that. As far as the transmission fluid, please consider using the exponentially cheaper, and just as good, valvoline maxlife ATF for your transmission. I used to use the factory ZF fluid at $20 a quart, and I realize now maxlife is a perfect alternative. The color will be different, but it is 100% compatible and an excellent quality fluid. I will say that these German ZF 8 speed automatics are rock solid. But maxlife is $6.99 a quart vs $35. Food for thought.

After I replace my turbocharger i have a service throttle control problem
@tadsworkshop
@tadsworkshop 3 ай бұрын
Inspect your work. Any pressure leaks either in the turbine side of the turbo or the compressor side, will cause that throttle light. Use a scan tool, issue the command to clear codes, and try to reset the throttle light. Make sure all electrical connectors are plugged in. Don’t forget about the one on the turbocharger vane controller module.

Wondering if a guy made a “Y” pipe for the egr instead of blocking it off. Join it with the factory exhaust port pipe to help evacuate more exhaust gas. I wonder if it would help, in theory, lower egt’s at all. Blocking that off has to create some amount of additional back pressure, or swirling from a fluid dynamics standpoint. Not saying it would be worth the hassle but would be interested to see if it made any difference. Obviously not for power but for lowering temps and turbo longevity. 🤔 Edit. Nevermind as I’ve watched I see that egr outlet on the housing is pre compressor so my idea would definitely not work 😂.
