That oil pressure problem could be caused by letting the engine idle for prolonged periods of time. I know a lot of guys tend to do that, but it's not good for the engine. The oil pressure drops when your truck is idling. When idling for too long it could lead to oil starvation. Doing this all day, everyday results in a lot of engine wear. Also, regular oil changes need to be done at proper intervals. I'm sure the engines that made it to 300,000 miles were well maintained.

The same engine was an option for the 2013-2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I had one in 2014, the car was great new but after the first 10K service, the problems started. The oil cooler and EGR cooler were replaced under warranty. Then at 22K the fuel pump failed but lucky for me there was no metal in the lines. I sold the car in 2015 and the new owner decided to have it "tuned". Soon after the engine had a spun big end failure. I went back to my good old WJ Jeep 4.7L and I still have it. Thanks for your video. I would like to add my personal experience with my Jeep GC 2018 and some information on this engine: - my jeep is now 215k KM and is working very fine (i.e. current performance is very close to those of day 1), and without any major concern, very lately, I had to change the air intake manifold that broke one of its flappers. For the maintenance, I am changing the engine oil every 10.000 km (I am not waiting for the oil change indicator warning) and I use Castrol Magnatec 5W40 C3. I am not servicing my car at the dealership, but I am doing it by myself with the help of an experienced mechanic. From my personal experience, I came to the conclusion that the local authorized dealer is a major cause of bad performance of those engines and of the car in general, the dealer personnel are not skilled/supervised enough in order to apply FCA guidelines and instructions, this is my deep conviction today… when you give your jeep to those folks for the first time and they put a 5W30 oil, and for the next oil service, they put 5W40 and they hand you back your car with a check engine light on, I believe there are enough evidence that you need to fear those people and take away your car from them. By the way, I am living in Morocco and FCA dealer here is a consistent presence (fancy big building, a lot of workforce…) but the quality is not there unfortunately. -this engine is designed by VM Motori, a diesel engine designer based in Italy and recently purchased by Fiat. This manufacturer has a satisfactory track record, and they designed engines that was used by several car manufacturers (alfa romeo, land rover, toyota, jeep…). The engine block (code A630) used on the grand cherokee and the RAM is also used on Maserati Guibli and Levante with some performance modifications. But this is a controversial engine, the fully satisfied customers are as much as the ones who experienced engine failure… -the italians are apparently good in diesel engines, it seems they are the first to register a patent of a common rail diesel engine (alfa romeo), they are behind the famous truck brand IVECO and CASE tractors that are equipped with engines from FPT (fiat powertrain technologies). So i believe they have a good reputation in diesel engines. Thanks for your very informative video 👍🏻 Greetings from Morocco 🤝

@8020Media11 ай бұрын
Pro - Unfortunately, there are many things that can cause low oil pressure at idle, but here are a few things to look into: oil level, viscosity of oil, oil pressure sensor, oil pump, or the oil filter. Keep us updated.
@prodriversteam232411 ай бұрын
Have checked oil. Oil is old and level is way too much. Filter is old as well. But many of very reliable mechanics told me that with any oil level or visconsity it should make pressure. Unless is blocked. So i removed and tested the oil filter and there is no signs of metal pieces. Oil is going through the oil filter and housing fine. One thing i cant check is oil cooler. It needs to be changed as it cant be cleaned. I will try to change whole housing and will change oil and i will give an update. P.S engine is running fine on idle and on rpm. Also i have issue this truck is not engaging gears and cant drive. Errors says shift to P than desired gear when desired. Could it be the same issue of low pressure?
@8020Media11 ай бұрын
Pro - Keep us updated on the oil pressure when you address the parts you mentioned. As for not engaging gears, are you getting an engine codes related to the transmission?
@prodriversteam232411 ай бұрын
I will keep updated. It will take time for me to find out. As going step by step and have not much time with this. I hope by April to sort this out. I have checked errors via diagnostic machine, its says P1B14 which is transmission error. And also it has rail error. Anyway i will sort oil pressure issue firstly and will see other errors. In overall i don’t get why people do not change oils on time. So many cars engines blowed out due this. Its so cheap to change the oil. Thank you and will keep you posted.

First of all it a Gen 2 engine and this was updated for the 2017 to 2018 model years possibly even the 2016 model yr. So I have an 18 eco diesel 84k miles no tune. Issues I’ve had are 1 my def injected clogged up. I cleaned and reset codes no problems since. Cleaned my EGR and yes it was nasty. But mechanically it still runs fine. Just dropped in the GDE tune. More to come on that. My high pressure fuel pump was just replace via recall. I get 23mpg with mixed driving. Pre GDE there was significant turbo lag. GDE fixed that. I do tow a 6500lb travel trailer again no issues. When I tow I change my oil at 5k miles instead of 10k miles. Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance. It’s a diesel and they are expensive, maintain it and chances are you will experience no failure. I’ve seen people with 200k plus miles with no issues and I’ve heard of engine failure at 50k. Honestly I’ve seen Toyotas and Honda fail at Low mileage. Pretty sure this guy does not own an eco diesel.

@@8020Media ok quick update short term impression of the GDE tune. 1. The turbo lag is gone it accelerates like bat out of compared to stock tune even burned rubber in second gear. 2. 200 miles in and gas mileage has improved by 3mpg. 3. The trans mission zips through the first 4 gear to get to 5th which I believe helps with the MPG. The bad. When going through the first 4 gears it’s clunky hard shifts. They say it’s a learning program and hopefully that will smooth it self out. If not GDE does have a fix for it. Overall get the tune if you don’t have it.

I just re-watched this video because I got a ping on my response. That said, listen to the video. Do not buy the 2014 through 2016 Eco diesel period. All owner know they (me) went back for a dozen or more recalls. Problems stated here, the EGR cooler and fuel pump were recalls. I have a 2014 GC with 194k on it now. My first post from a year ago was at 181k. Problems since then have been waterpump and E brake cables. Mopar doesn't want to sell you parts for this motor. The waterpump was $1000. and not in stock. A Gates was so cheap I can't even remember the price. Always buy aftermarket. Another take away from the video is that light towing is best. I'm towing a Camaro on an aluminum trailer. The Jeep absolutely has a marginal cooling system because of the tight packaging. The transmission always runs cool and the oil temps are always in check. Just the coolant temp. So would I buy another? Maybe a 2018 or newer JC. Seems like I could get a nice one for $20 to 24k. Mine is really really nice and in fantastic condition because Ireallytake care of it. I also have a Flowmaster 50 Series Big Block HD muffler and the Bank's silencer delete kit. I use Wix filters in all my vehicles. Ya know i watch your video and the other channels like it and I'm like yeah these suck. But then i read the reviews by owners and I'm like well? I own a 2015 Jeep GC, 100K no issues, runs great, great fuel consumption, my only issue and maybe its my ignorance is well two issues, one, the oil gets a little hot when i'm towing in the mountains. Like 260ish not for long but it gets there and i'm towing maybe 4000. Mind you my trailer is flat so there is wind resistance. Second the recalls, the HPFP is now over a year and no end in sight. Now they have stacked the new recall on so who knows when or if they will fix it. I mean do they even intend too, since the are canceling the motor? I was planning an oil cooler and a delete and all that but 'im like is it worth it? On the other hand i could like the other posters get another 2 or 3 K and no issues. The question is what percent are we talking here for these failures? Most the posters below seem happy so im curious.

The EGR system is a complete pos. It will eventually cause a catastrophic failure to this perfectly good engine. 193k and still going strong. 33.8 Hwy according to the computer, need to do my own calc next trip. Filled it up in Green Valley AZ, 26 Gal tank, drove around for 30 minutes, then drove to Rocky Point MX 4.5 hours, drove around Rocky Point for 3 days maybe 3 hours, drove back to Green Valley 4.5 hours and still had 3/16ths of a tank left. Amazing engine if taken care of.

The Ecodiesel was not a clean sheet design by Chrysler. It was designed by GM and VM. Chrysler bought the engine design for next to nothing after GM threw it away.

Why can’t you just flush the cooling system out after an oil cooler failure we do it all the time on trucks Cat C15s are always having oil coolers fail
@8020Media Жыл бұрын
You usually can - just flush the system and replace the cooler. However it sometimes causes coolant to mix into the oil too which is when it can lead to engine failure.

The notion that Europeans don't build decent diesels is laughable as most cars and trucks over there are in fact diesel!! Should they have left the 3.0 overseas? Probably! Ford could have used the 4bt inline 4 platform and I think it would have been a better fit! I've been around Cummins engines in marine commercial trucks and pickups and the 4bt is a stout lil power plant.

They’ve been running them for many years in agricultural machinery in Europe, Cummins is garbage too have way too many censors , buy yourself a gas engine especially today with diesel being 1.60 more a gallon and filters plus def anti pollution system all crap lucky to sell theses pieces of garbage just trouble from A to Z money pits , I have had many of theses eco and Cummins crap both of them get yourself a gas , unless your pulling very heavy loads the Cummins better choice than eco diesel but if you can avoid both of them you’re going to sleep better at night 😂😂😂crappy motors bottom line .
