Ram LED Upgrade Alpharex Pro Series Headlights

I made this video to help Ram owners upgrade from the old stock halogen bulbs to a nice clean white LED. You may want to go the HID route but the information in this video may still help you. If you run into any issues please comment down below maybe someone else or myself can help! If you are using headlights other than the ones in the video the bulb size may be different. How do I make my low beams stay on when I switch to my high beams

I've got a 06 ram 2500 and the aftermarket headlights I got requires a high beam bulb and a low beam bulb. The headlights are the same brand as yours and they are H7's as well but I'm having trouble finding led bulbs that come with both high beam and low beam bulbs. The bulb holders are exactly the same as yours are in the video so I need bulbs that are the same set up. Would you happen to know of any led bulbs that would work?

There's not a high and low beam led kit that I know of yet. I've had really good experience with the Hikari Ultra H7 LED's. There a little expensive being that you would have to buy two kits to do high and low beam as I did. Good luck there's a link in the description to the Hikari Ultra if you want to check them out.

What about the 2015 dodge ram ( the black steek under dodge ram ) After installing led, they turn on. But after start engine and hit the gas 1 time. They switch off. Do you know if there is another setting in alfaobd for voltage monitoring what keep the led on?

On my 2015 I had issues with the LEDs not staying staying on after only enabling CBC Features LED Low Beam Lamps and CBC Features LED High Beam Lamps. But once I went back into Alpha OBD and enabled VehConfig 3: High Intensity Discharge Headlamps. They worked properly. Make sure those 3 are enabled and it should fix your problem.

Will a pair of canbus decoders not do the same thing? I have some installed on my factory reflectors with LEDs . But they are H11 stock. I don't know why alpha rex didn't just keep it H11 .

You can try canbus decoders. Certain brands may work. I had problems in the past with a set I used. I think they where the Hikari brand. I agree I think a lot of people are upset about alpharex headlights not being H11 like the factory headlights.

Hey, Check put the new Hikari 20,000lm bulbs. I saw something about a swap from 2020 to the new 2021 bulbs. Maybe its free. I got the new ones, hope they fit

Is there a way to adjust the high beams? I just put hikari led bulbs and the low beams are great, the high beams seem to be too far up

The only way is making sure both LEDs are aligned correctly (9&3) when you install. Ther is no actual adjustment screw as there is for the low beams. Also the high beams are supposed to be pointed much higher than the low beams.

Not that I am aware of yet. There maybe a LED and Decoder Harness setup out there that runs LEDs with no errors but I havent found it.

Did you have to install the PWM’s or any other crap other than the bulbs themselves? I’m pulling the trigger on GTR ULTRA 2.0 for my 2015 ram . Have Alfa OBD ready to go just wanted to make sure .

The Hikari Ultra H7 LED's I used came with drivers as seen in the video. From my understanding the drivers keep the voltage and current flowing through an LED circuit at its rated level. Not sure if the GTR Ultra 2.0 comes with drivers but I'd recommend them. Good luck to you let me know if they work!

@@doitwithkody1939 got my lights in today, work perfectly . No issues . Didn’t need anything other than the driver that came built in with the bulbs low beams. Went with GTR CSP Minis for the high beams. Didn’t even have a driver . Just a bulb . all work perfect

Kody is there an option in there for tail lights? my moto xb tails work fine for about 5 min then all of a sudden the running light on the passenger side cuts out.

You would have to go in to Alfa and change that as well.

I put the alpharex G2 Pro headlights in my 2017 RAM and I can't seem to get rid of the parking light out fault. I have AlfaOBD and have changed almost everything to yes in the LED categories. Still getting parking light out fault

Are you sure the changes saved in alfaobd? I recommend changing one at a time and waiting 5min in-between

@@doitwithkody1939 yeah. I'm reading on forums that error only shows with 7" evic which is when I noticed it. I've had the lights but just switched gauge cluster. AlfaOBD showing all LEDs. May contact AlphaRex.

I have a 2015 as well that I have leds in the stock quad headlights that work properly, but I am purchasing the alpha Rex, do you by chance think I’ll be ok ? I only ask because I do not have a droid to run the alphaobd

I had stock quads before switching to alpharex. The issue is the when you switch to alpharex the bulbs are a diffrent size from stock. I belive they go from H11 stock quads to H7 on the alpharex. You may need to get new LED lights to fit your Alpharex headlights properly. Then the canbus system could be a problem as it was for my 2015 Big horn. Cant say for sure but you will more than likely need to change the CBC features with AlfaOBD as seen in the video. If you don't have a Droid device you can also run Alfaobd through a Windows PC if you have one available. Hope this helped! You got me thinking maybe I'll make a tutorial on using AlfaOBD with a PC.

@@leoluvianos4393 I don't think there currently is a bulb that solves the canbus issue. You can try diffrent LED brands with a decoder setup. But the way I show in the video is the only way I've found to work with out running into issue with the Canbus system in my 2015 Ram.

Take a long screw driver down frame holes in the engine bay and it will line up with the where you adjust the stock headlights. There will be arrow indicators where I'm talking about.

Hello … I had recently replaced my entire headlight assemblies with LED upgrades(prior to finding your video) which did not work so I returned them. Will this process work just the same for only LED bulb replacement? Thanks for the video and info !

Hello Matt, It should be the same process just make sure you get the right size LED for whatever headlight assembly you will be using. It should be the same process with the Alfa OBD app and MX OBD2 reader.

Great question, yes that's correct the alphrex headlights come with h7 halogen (yellow) bulbs. They work just the same as your stock bulbs drawing close to the same amount of power therfore don't throw any code to your ram so nothing else needed. If you decide to switch out the bulbs for LED down the road you will need decoders or everything shown in this video Good luck!

You may get an error message on the EVIC. I am using the halogen bulbs that came with the Alpharex pros on my 2015, but I get a message and chime about parking bulb out every time I start the truck. The message goes away and all lights operate correctly, so it isn't a big deal. I've used the AlfaOBD to set the parking lights to LED and enable VehConfig 3: High Intensity Discharge Headlamps, but I still get the message.

How many led chips does the bulb ? I currently have supernova v4 LED's they have 4 chips on each side

I believe Eye of Megatron Hikari is two per side. There's a whole science to how many chips what type of chip is used on these diffrent brand LED lights I'm sure. I've just read online that the orientation on which the chips are placed is important for projector style headlights. If I remember right the Hikaris are two stacked LEDs per side.

I have the same type of headlights, every time I turn my turn signal on, I get a "parking light out" warning. There are no lights out. Will this help to correct that?

Yes, your trucks canbus system default settings are causing that error on your dash. If you use AlfaOBD app and OBDlink mx + you will beable to enable LEDs and get rid of that parking light out error for good!

@@Airborne82 The obdlink is basically a Bluetooth obd2 reader that connects to the truck under the drivers steering wheel. You will connect to that via Bluetooth in the AlpaOBD App on your Android or windows PC. Do you have just the Alpharex headlights stock halogen bulbs? And is there any other LEDs throughout the vehicle? For every LED you have I can send the appropriate commands that will need to be changed in the AlpaOBD app. I can also possibly make a video explaining everything.

My son has these exact same housings we put in last week. Let me tell you, these absolutely suck with LED low beams. We've tried different bulbs, clocking, etc and the light pattern is horrible no matter what we do. Putting some HIDs in next to see if it is any better. If not, getting rid of the housings. So far, not good at all.

@@doitwithkody1939 Yes, we tried adjusting/clocking them. The first set of LEDs were Bosllas (the ones that can color change between 6000K, 4300K, and 3000K. That functionality works great, but no matter what we did, the beam pattern on 6000K was just awful. At the 3000K setting, visibility was much better, but overall not much brighter than halogens. We tried Hikaris (Eye of Megatron and their Ultrafocus), just as bad as the Bosllas, in fact the Eye of Megatrons were worse.) These were tried based on numerous reviews. I don't know how pepople are getting the great light and beam pattern they are, they just don't work in the Alpharexs. We have some HIDs coming and will try those.

@@user-bp4qq7tt1u Yes, much better, but still not as good as they should be. He sold the lights and bought the $800 LUXX version with LED's already installed. Shoulda done that from the start. I can see why it's illegal to put HIDs and/or LED's in halogen housings, it just doesn't work well.

You may need to get in contact with Alpharex on that one. I personally don't think there's a diffrence in headlight size between sport and other 2015 models.

I think Alpharex has a led housing version but it's much higher in price and the draw back is if a led bulb goes out you will have to replace the housing cause the LED's are sealed and not replaceable

That's a great question. Unfortunately I'm unsure but you may be able to find an answer on Ramfourms. Im thinking you may still need the bypass cable.

@@minoshsivanesan9343 if your vehicle is factory LED's or HID you don't need alphaobd if your vehicle is factory holengen you will need the alphaobd to reconfigure factory settings or use resistors and canbus modules to mimic holengen bulbs so you don't get bulb out warnings or hyper flashing or bulbs not working at all rams have a complex canbus system and if you have 2018+ you will need the security bypass harness to use AlphaOBD that harness bypass the security system that was made to keep from making changes to the factory settings without the harness you can't use AlphaOBD in 2018+ models

I just installed HIDs on my alpha Rex headlight same as yours but mine it’s a 2011 ram but the HID it’s flickering and turns off and on do you know what can it fix that problem I wanna upgrade to LEDs but wasn’t sure what LEDs to use but now that I see this video helps a lot !

You need CANBUS decoders. LEDs will do the same without the CANBUS decoder.
