Just a quick disclaimer for anybody looking to do the same, please also check the voltages applied on "auto" by the motherboard. If you look at 3:19 you can see that on auto the board put 1,336V. It is way out of the normal operating range for the VCCIO (and VSA) which should be at 1,25V maximum pour 24/7 use. It is actually dangerous to run our CPU with a VCCIO that high for long periods of time as it could damage the CPU's IMC (Integrated Memory Controller). Best to manually set it to 1,25V max. Hope it's helps.
@MartinGuder5 жыл бұрын
Edit: I searched for some minutes and I think you are a bit mislead concerning VCCIO and VCCSA. Since 2nd gen i-Processors, this voltage is used for feeding all input/output (I/O) pins of the CPU, EXCEPT memory-related pins. On CPUs that have this voltage, it is also used to feed the thermal control bus. VCCSA (System Agent) on the other hand was before 2nd gen known as VTT. This feeds the integrated memory controller, PCIe controller and graphics engine of the CPU. Still thanks for the hint. Will try to lower those voltages if possible.

@@MartinGuder Thanks for the reply, i was referring to the max value given by overclockers and various guides that all state to keep within 1.25V max for good measure, like this guide => www.tweaktown.com/guides/8481/coffee-lake-overclocking-guide/index5.html. I can also speak from experience as I've just seen a coffee lake chip died and rma when applying too much voltage from DDR4 bench overclocking past 3800 that is. Hi Martin, thanks for your tutorials. I'm planning to build Hackintosh/PC double boot like you, but, if I understand right, you are planning to upgrade to Vega 64 instead of the RX 580 and with a 1000 Watt PSU. My questions: what GPU you think is better to use to have best performance in gaming, Vega 64 or Nvidia 1080 Ti? Why Is not enough your actual 650 watt PSU for your future upgrading?
@MartinGuder6 жыл бұрын
For high end performance Nvidia is the only way. You can wait for Vega 7, but still nobody knows the real world performance. Should be en par with a 2080, but who knows. The more performant GPUs, especially Vega, need more power. And before I run into errors because of a PSU, I just upgrade. 850 Watt should also be ok, maybe 750. But 650 will most probably cause some trouble. I just choose 1000 Watt to be future proof. ;)

I overclock my teamgroul 32GB ram to 3000mhz please help will it work and not work I am subscribed 🙏

Unfortunately not every RAM can be overclocked the same way. Maybe higher core voltage slightly, lower speed or loose timings slightly manually, but not too much.

@@MartinGuder I had to change ram because my computer would not turn on one-day

Maybe it was bc of the RAM itself. Any problems since switching to the new one?

How do u do on Mac?
@MartinGuder6 жыл бұрын
I don't think that this is possible on a Mac. But would on the other hand doesn't make much sense, because the machine would thermal throttle even more.

@@nicksaya You are welcome. What Mac you wanted to overclock?

Martin Guder 2009 Mac Pro tower 8 core nehelem 48 gigs of ram.

@@nicksaya Ah ok. The problem is the lack of a BIOS on Mac. In 2008 there was a tool by ZDNet which could be used to overclock the CPU. Not sure if this still works, because of newer OS versions and most probably Apple shut those attempts down. Maybe try to get your hands on this. Other than that, you can maybe get faster RAM sticks for your system. But like stated in the video: the performance increase will be most probably not worth the extra money.

I have the same kit as you and my over clocks never work on my ram it always fails even put dram voltage up to 1.38
@MartinGuder6 жыл бұрын
A bit of silicon lottery is involved. Maybe you are just not as lucky as me. Did you follow the guide 100%? Maybe these RAM voltage guideline helps: 1.2V or lower = Best for DDR4 1.35V = okay voltage for overclocking kits 1.5V = absolute max voltage allowed for Intel XMP 2.0 profiles and max suggested voltage Take this with a grain of salt, as it heavily depends on the memory kit and manufacturer.

I have the same exact kit as you do 32gb ddr4 2400mhz

The most i can get out of it is 2666

Never mind!! It only works when my timings are left on auto thank you my friend
@MartinGuder6 жыл бұрын
Damn. Maybe then try increasing voltage in 0.05 V steps. Somebody in the comments said, that he uses the kit at 3200 MHz with voltage somewhere around 1.35v. That's even a better result than mine. So it really depends a bit on the production batch. Some are better than others. But overall don't be upset, because for everyday use cases it doesn't matter that much. For benchmarking it gives you some additional points, but you won't notice big differences, when you e.g. export videos. The few seconds benefit are not worth potential instabilities or huge efforts until you get a stable overclock.
