Thankfully, I didn't loose it but my phone kept falling out of the X-Grip mount. I'm not sure if it's made worse because I have mine mounted on an accessory bar so the phone is angled more vertically than it would be if mounted to the handlebars? Either way, thanks for the review, exactly the info I was looking for before purchasing the Quick-Grip.

RAM-X… I’ve hated it from day one! The one I got has the ball integrated into the housing and is the WORST thing to adjust along with the bar clamp it came with. Yes, lost my phone on the trail, fortunately the wife was with me and used her phone to find mine 700 meters up the hill. That rubber band? The absolutely most useless thing on the planet! Ohh I hate this thing! On the plus side, I hacked it apart, ground that stupid ball down flush, shortened the existing screw from inside, screwed it onto another Ram ball, using a short arm and now I can swing it anywhere I want it. Before it was EXTREMELY limited. As for that rubber band? I’ld rather use duct tape!🤣 RAM Mounts are a great product, but someone really shite the bed on this one. The quick grip does look to be much better. I may just switch to it…MAY! $$$$
@Jakeisks12 күн бұрын
Why do they use a ball, instead of a ball clamp, sticking up from the handlebar clamp? The only exception I've seen is FANAUE (Amazon). I guess the answer is that it's easier to clamp down on 2 balls, one on each end, but... there are plenty of situations where a single ball clamp would be useful, so a ball-to-clamp (similar to male-to-female) design would make things connect easier. Anybody know of another handlebar clamp that includes a single ball clamp, besides the FANAUE? Thanks.

Thank you for this review. I had a very bad experience using the X mount on my Goldwing on a road trip from Pensacola, FL to Rhode Island. This was my first time using Ram products and also the first road trip that I used this. I had almost ALL of the issues you mentioned, literally from day one of my trip. It let go of my Galaxy S8 on I-40 North just south of Chattanooga and the phone got run over several times before I could safely recover it. Even with a sturdy case, it was destroyed. After that, I basically lost faith in the brand, but I've wanted to try out the Quick Grip. I'm ordering one today.

I’ve used a Ram X Grip without the rubber band on road for several years without issue. I’m sure using it off-road introduces another level of complexity. I am considering the Quad-lock system though since they now offer a vibration dampener.

@Eternal Embers Quadlock does Apple, Samsung, Google, and Huawei. Hey guys thanks for the great video. I'm usually never "that guy", but I just found the Tackform "Enduro Motorcycle Phone Mount" while poking around for a dirtbike phone mount. I've ran a lot of stuff on the front of my bike (GPS, paper and digital roadbooks, etc) but never a phone. Since you guys had the only review I could find with actual dirt, I was curious if you'd seen this mount. It looks quality, but minimalist as well. Maybe too minimalist? Great Oregon footage as well, I've lived in Bend twice in the past (going into the 90s) and my avatar is a 10 year old shot from me in the Steens.
@RIDEAdventures3 жыл бұрын
Justin, your name appears familiar from Facebook groups around Bend. -- We'd never seen the Tackform before you mentioned it, but it appears to rely on the same/similar rubber band-on-4-corners concept that the Ram X-Grip relies on. @@RIDEAdventures yeah they make a big deal about how secure it is, and then it seems like everybody defaults to the rubber band. Quadlock is good option, but you have to use certain case or glue quadlock universal mount to the phone/phone case. With quickgrip you can use your phone as is. Another thing to consider is phone protection- quickgrip defends the phone from incoming rocks, branches etc (the camera lense is not covered with quadlock). I switched to quickgrip after the quadlock broke after some tumble over the bars, quickgrip have seen some falls as well, but still holding strong. One other thing is that you can glue thin QI charger on quickgrip . Note to the quickgrip users: i recommend turning the mount upside down, because otherwise the spring-operated latching mechanism could full send the phone straight down to the ground.

I didn't consider the X Grip. It wasn't a design I would have expected from RAM Mount. Basically, it's a spring loaded phone mount that isn't secure enough for road use, with an added rubber band to make it barely secure enough for road use, it you don't hit a pothole. Read the one star reviews on Amazon from people with lost or smashed phones. What an embarrassment for RAM Mount. I bought the Quick Grip after verifying that it would barely fit my Samsung phone in the Otterbox case. YMMV. Even then, I had to belt sand a tiny amount off one set of the hooks. It's a tight enough fit that it's not all that quick, but it is very secure... and it's still quicker than the X Grip rubber bands and spring loaded bobbin nonsense.

Lots of great used options out there. Enjoy the hunt, but yea, remember that buying it is one part of the cost. The other is using/maintaining : )

You don’t have to use the rubber band, I bought mine before they gave that thing. Like 10 years ago, but I use it in the car 🚗 💁🏻♂️

Yep, big difference between riding in the car vs. adventure riding.

Any phone holder without a specific vibration dampener mechanism WILL damage your phone camera. Don't ask how I know...

I tested ram xgrip and stem mount on my GSXR. It does the job but ram xgrip is a poorly designed universal phone holder. It holds the phone in place but the stem mount is bad designed (you have to cut yourself the mounting insert to install it into the stem and it self destroys after the first turn of the nut...), does not lock in place and it touches the aluminum stem with the risk of scrathces. The x grip does its job but looks weak and woobly, the rubber holder looks like it is going to break only if you stare at it... I bought it and returned. Better consider other brands such as SP Connect or Quadlock.

Want a review of your neck piece. Hell is that bro?

Hah, definitely an Alpinestars Neck Brace, not a toilet seat : ) Seems like a great product that makes total sense, and could truly protect someone. Hope I never have to fully confirm that : )

My phone flew off of the quick grip on a bump on the road way…so now I know I bought 2 junk mounts great

The x grip is absolutely a stupid design on a motorcycle. Maybe in a car, but there's no reason to mount a phone in a car anyway. The quick grip works great.
