Egypt is a perfect destination right now, tourists can eat the best street food or dine at high end restaurants at the most affordable prices right now. I ate starter, main and dessert in a high end restaurant for around $12!! I can't wait to return.

Yes I can definitely say I was not happy when I discovered the videos were silent! A whole great night of footage, gone! 🤦‍♀️But at least I still had fun with my friend I guess 😆 And I just got my microphone fixed, thankfully! Because the mic I used in this video actually sucks. You can hear the wind, it's harder to hear people I am speaking to, yeah not super happy with the mic I used in this video, but it was my only option at the time. Have you done a video on tipping in Egypt.. don’t want to insanely overtip and don’t want to look cheap. What would be a good tip to give a guide for say a four hour tour.. and meals..in general
@Gventures
@Gventures 7 ай бұрын
Yeah I have no idea actually. That's why I haven't made a tipping video yet, I don't know what is "correct" to tip. I think the tipping totally varies from quality and service, whether you are in 5 star hotels and going on luxury tours or a simple cheap day trip. Group or private tours are also going to require different tips. And regardless of which one, I never take tours, so I have no idea! 😅 I have heard one should top their guide $10, $30, and $50 (totally depends on if it is private or not, luxury or not, the length of the tour, right?! And I don't know, these are just numbers I've heard). I have heard to tip your driver $5 usually. Wait staff several dollars. I dunno. It's confusing. In local life (and that's what I have always experienced and the only way I travel- I almost never take tours or pay for any services, I do everything on my own, go alone, take local transportation, etc.) tipping isn't big and it's not a lot when they do tip. So in summary, I haven't a clue. Sorry, wish I could be more helpful with that

@Gventures
@Gventures 7 ай бұрын
Lol that is a fairly accurate way to describe it, it is pretty difficult to nail on the head. The drinks I didn't finish? Well, I did finish the sobia and the coffee. I left the Tamarind juice behind because I didn't like it, and I drank more of the date milk though not all of it, so that got left behind too. I realized I didn't have room in my bag to bring any of those drinks home because I had to fit the zalabia and also the amr al din in my backpack, and I was riding my motorcycle so I needed my hands to be free.

Did the government say that? I stopped paying attention 🤣 When the GEM finally does open, it will be big news and everybody is going to know about it. @Gventures
@Gventures 6 ай бұрын
First time travelers...do you mean, your first time traveling anywhere? Or just first time traveling to Egypt? There are lots of vendors trying to sell you things, and definitely some people will try to take advantage, but if you have traveled before and know how to deal with these kinds of situations, it's fine. I've been to India and other countries with similar environments, and when I first arrived I was fine. I don't know any guides, because I never use them, I have always just gone and done everything alone. Sorry, wish I had some kind of recommendation. I could give you a few pieces of advice, but ultimately there isn't really a way to avoid the vendors or beggars, especially in the touristic areas. That is just where they tend to congregate.

@@Gventures First time in Egypt. Been to a few other places but I here Egypt tout scene is like no other. Where would you recommend to stay in Cairo How many days is good to stay in Cairo Is there other places you can travel from Cairo. Cairo to Sharm is it possible
@Gventures
@Gventures 6 ай бұрын
@@JC-ce8uw Phew. So many of these questions are subjective and the answer will depend on your preferences. I've heard Cairo and Marrakech being likened to each other before, in regards to the touts. But I haven't been to Marrakech before so I can't say what's "worse". But if you've been there, then it's probably a bit similar to Cairo (at least when it comes to aggressive vendors, that's what I've heard). I really don't know what to recommend to you because I don't know you and what you enjoy, but I can recommend things that I like 😆 My preferences lean towards budget backpacker style of travel. Staying in hostel dorms, eating street food, local life, local transportation - that's the kind of stuff I like. So if you're anything like me, then you will like these recommendations. If you are looking for luxury and like resorts, then you will probably hate them. Here's a video I made about hostels, I really like Dahab Hostel for the social vibes, but Madina's facilities are better. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIOqaaSspquBqMU How many days in Cairo will depend on how much time you have in general. I love Cairo, many people hate it. Do you want to just hit the pyramids and the museums and then leave, or hang out and explore more of the city, see some lesser known areas, and just chill at cafes and bars? You can take a bus from Cairo to Alexandria, that takes about 4 hours. If you decide to do that I recommend staying a night or 2 in Alex and exploring the city, there's good seafood and ancient stuff out there too. Fayoum Oasis is also amazing, lots of stuff to see out there, I made a bunch of videos not long ago about my trip out there. Let me know if you have more questions. Cairo to Sharm is possible of course, by flight or bus. The bus takes around 10 hours, maybe more. I don't like Sharm because it's a resort city, but Dahab is nice. Chill beach town with hippie vibes, popular for snorkeling and diving. I think Sharm probably has better beaches though. I dunno, haven't spent much time in Sharm, didn't like the vibes.

Hello Geisel and thanks for another pleasant video from the old country. I have so much to say and ask you so thank you for your patience. I remember as a child my beloved late father would take me into downtown to an ice cream restaurant called Gropy. He would leave me there and he would go upstairs to his tailor to have his business suites made. I don’t know if you or any of your Egyptian followers have heard of this restaurant? I don’t know if they are still in business, this would be about 60 years ago when I was there last. Another store specializing is Basbousa and Konafa is in Alexandria right at the main train station called-translation- Station of the Sand. If you ever go back to Alexandria, pay them a visit if they are still in business, you won’t be disappointed. Another thing I have noticed in your video is how clean the streets are in this particular area. Certainly much better than my memories from the sixties. I find the most sad thing about Cairo are the street children, that little girl in your video trying to sell you something. That I have always found difficult and disturbing to see. I am glad that has improved too. If you have a chance, can you take some videos of New Cairo that is being built out in the desert. I am thinking of moving back to Cairo and purchasing a condominium there. I would like your impressions of the area. Thanks again for your videos and your time making them. BTW, regarding the Zalabia, by beloved late mother used to make that for me but she used to call it -translation- The Bread of the Judge. I don’t know if it is the same thing,perhaps you can ask one of the locals.

Gropy? I have never heard of it, but I can ask my bf and see if he knows of it. But are you sure it's called Gropy? Because "P" doesn't exist in Arabic. Maybe it's called "Groby?" When I make it out to Alex I will try to remember to look for a store near the train station selling Kunafa and basbousa, but my memory is not always the greatest, so by the time I make it to Alex (no current plans to take a trip there), I might forget 😅 I actually don't know if the situation is improved in regards to the beggars and children, because I see quite a lot of them on the street, asking for money, or selling little trinkets or tissues. But maybe it's better than when you were here, not sure. Also, you mention a place being built out in the desert. Are you asking about New Cairo, or the New Administrative Capital? They are 2 different places, New Cairo has been around for a while, but they are currently still building stuff out in the New Administrative Capital. I've had quite a few requests from people asking me to go out and film both of these places. To be honest, I don't have a huge interest in either place 😅 Because I am not sure what there is to film out there, I think it is just gated communities and shopping malls and restaurants, which will be boring to film and also to watch (at least in my opinion) 🤣 However, that being said, I do still intend to film in both of these satellite cities at some point, I am just not sure when. I will have to take a day off work to drive to these areas and find something interesting about them to film. Can you write the name in Arabic that your mother used to call zalabia (Bread of the Judge)? I will ask my bf to read it and see if he recognizes that term for zalabia. Thanks Cherif! 🥰

@@Gventures That is what my dad used to call the place. last time i was there was 1972 so it is possible they are no longer in business. they would serve ice cream on metal plates and there was tailor on the second floor of the building. Gorppy is all i can remember and the fact that they had an amazing selection of ice cream. i am sorry, but i am illiterate when it comes to Arabic but i believe the Bread of the Judge is pronounced as " LOOICMET EL AUDI." sorry that is the best i could do. It is a flat pastry drenched in syrup. thanks again.

@@Gventures also regarding New Cairo, yes you are correct. there is New Cairo where President Sadat is interned and the new Administrative Capital in the desert. It is the latter that i am interested in. My cousin is in Egyptian Real estate and is am agent for a company building houses and condominiums out there. i am thinking of purchasing a condo unit there, when the restrictions on the visa for Canadians is lifted.

Can you druggist good hotel in downtown to stay with kids include breakfast
@Gventures
@Gventures 6 ай бұрын
I don't usually stay in hotels, I almost always stay in hostels, so to be honest I can't suggest many hotels that I am familiar with in downtown. Cleopatra seems like a decent hotel in downtown. I also like Holy Sheet Plus Hotel in downtown. But I am not sure either of them include breakfast.
