Is the Hadeeth of Omar (RA) authentic or weak?

Narrated Abu Salma bin 'Abdur Rahman: I asked 'Aisha, "How is the prayer of Allah's Apostle during the month of Ramadan." She said, "Allah's Apostle never exceeded eleven Rakat in Ramadan or in other months; he used to offer four Rakat-- do not ask me about their beauty and length, then four Rakat, do not ask me about their beauty and length, and then three Rakat." Aisha further said, "I said, 'O Allah's Apostle! Do you sleep before offering the Witr prayer?' He replied, 'O 'Aisha! My eyes sleep but my heart remains awake'!" Sahih al-Bukhari 1147 Sahih al-Bukhari Vol. 2, Book of Night Prayer (Tahajjud), Hadith 248 11 Rakat hadith has been narrated in a Chapter of Tahajud by Imam Bukhari. And, it says 4 rakat were performed instead of 2 rakat of Salah. Now can you ask Sheikh to confirm, why 8 Rakat Taraweeh is performed in 2 rakat?

How can you be so sure without doing own research???, Here is proof that this shejk lying. Narrated Abu Hurayra: Allah's Apostle said, “Whoever prayed at night the whole month of Ramadan out of sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven.” Ibn Shihab (a sub-narrator) said, “When Allah's Apostle died, the people continued observing that (i.e. Nawafil offered individually, not in congregation), and it remained as such during the Caliphate of Abu Bakr and in the early days of ‘Umar's Caliphate.” ‘Abdur Rahman bin ‘Abdul Qari said, “I went out in the company of ‘Umar bin Al-Khattab one night in Ramadan to the mosque and found the people praying in different groups - a man praying alone or a man praying with a little group behind him. Then, ‘Umar said, ‘In my opinion I would better collect these (people) under the leadership of one Qari (reciter) [i.e. let them pray in congregation!]'. So, he made up his mind to congregate them behind Ubayy bin Ka’b. Then, on another night, I went again in his company and the people were praying behind their reciter. On that, ‘Umar remarked, 'What an excellent bid'a (innovation in religion) this is; but the prayer which they do not perform, but rather sleep at its time, is better than the one they are offering.' He meant the prayer in the last part of the night." [Sahih al-Bukhari, volume 3, book 32, number 227] • “It was called bid’ah because the Prophet (s) did not use to pray it in congregation, and neither was it prayed like that in the time of al-Siddiq (referring to the first Caliph), nor in the early part of night or with these number of units.” [al-Qastallani, Irshad al-Sari Sharh Sahih al-Bukhari, volume 5, page 4] [al-Nawawi, Sharh Sahih Muslim, volume 6, page 287] • “‘Umar was the first who set the example of the night prayer of Ramadan, the Tarawih, and gathered people for it, and instructed different regions regarding it. This was during the month of Ramadhan of the year 14 (hijri). He appointed for the people reciters of the Qur’an who led the Tarawih prayer for men and women.” [Ibn Sa’d, Kitab al-Tabaqat, volume 3, page 281] [al-Suyuti, Tarikh al-Khulafa', page 137] [al-‘Ayni, ‘Umdat al-Qari fi Sharh Sahih al-Bukhari, volume 6, page 125]

In the next morning the people again talked about it and on the third night the mosque was full with a large number of people. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) came out and the people prayed behind him. On the fourth night the Mosque was overwhelmed with people and could not accommodate them, but the Prophet (ﷺ) came out (only) for the morning prayer. When the morning prayer was finished he recited Tashah-hud and (addressing the people) said, "Amma ba'du, your presence was not hidden from me but I was afraid lest the night prayer (Qiyam) should be enjoined on you and you might not be able to carry it on." So, Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) died and the situation remained like that (i.e. people prayed individually). " Sahih Sahih al-Bukhari, 2012 In this hadith Prophet Muhammad PBUH stopped praying taraweeh because he feared that Allah might make it obligatory upon them , but once the Prophet PBUH has died , Allah won't make it obligatory upon them so that is why Umar ibn Al Khattab RA said that it is a good bidah .

@@therealsheikh rasulullah SW stopped Taraweeh in congregation because if he kept it going it was going to become fardh and thus difficult for his ummah. He didn't forbid praying it in congregation. After his death there was no fear of this becoming an obligation so it was again constituted by Umar Ra. Don't get things twisted. And don't think Umar Ra would start something new in Islam when he knew Islam better than all of us. Also remember that the Prophet ﷺ told people to follow him and his companions after his death because his companions knew him the best. The word he used is used normally in Arabic all the time. @@therealsheikh if the prophet SW himself led a congregation for Taraweeh then how's it a bidah. A bidah is when something new is introduced to the religion that's not done by the prophet SW. Rather he said it was because the ummah would be in hardship had it become an obligation that he stopped it after 3 or 4 nights. I always understood that whatever your local masjid is doing, you should follow. The objective is to strive to complete the whole Quran in qiyam-ul-lail. If your masjid does 8 raka' and you cannot stand that long, you can sit after takbeer tahreema, and same for 20 raka'. If you cannot wait for all raka' and have some thing else to tend - then it's personal choice to leave after 4, 6, 8 etc. Like the sheikh said follow the sunnah and do the best you can, it is a sunnah. May Allah guide us all.

But tahajjud is prayed before sehri n taraweeh is prayed with/just after isha??
@elafzal58662 жыл бұрын
@@-S_J- Tahajjud can be prayed anytime after Isha untill fajr. Recommended time is last part of the night after sleeping a portion of the night. Taraweeh is the night prayer( after Isha) in ramadan. Praying at night is called qiyam ul layl and qiyam ul layl (in congregation) in ramadan is called taraweeh. Hope this answers your question.

@@-S_J- According to what you're being told here it is the same. Except in Ramadan it is called taraweeh. But this prayer should only be 11 units if your Prophet is Muhammad (salawat on him and his family). If you take the Sunnah of others then you would follow them ofcourse like many people do. Other changes are innovations introduced by others. Millions may justify it but as you know the Sunnah is what the Prophet did and not what others did.

Praying Taraweeh alone is also Sunnah. In the hadith quoted the Prophet was initially praying the voluntary night prayers alone!!! People gathered behind him voluntarily and started to pray along with him. He had not asked them to stand behind him. And the clearest evidence is that the Prophet did not come out on the 3rd or 4th night as the scholar has said. That means the Prophet prayed alone!!! So one can pray taraweeh at home alone as well, and even that is Sunnah, it doesn't have to be in Jamat.
@imrans27842 ай бұрын
That is incorrect. I refer you to the explanation of Sheikh Ibn Baz (rh). Don’t misguide people with your opinion. It’s better to leave it to the scholars who actually know what they are talking about
@shaz67892 ай бұрын
I don’t think he’s misguiding the people, what he stated is facts the prophet did pray at home alone and alone in the masjid and he stopped coming out when people joined him. Does matter what scholar it is he can’t change the Hadith, all he can do is give his interpretation or qiyās.

Lots of love to you for the sake of a Allah Thank you for a beautiful explanation I am one of those who used to do 11 Rakaat But now I am for 20 rakaat ever since I came across sura Nisa verse 59 O believers! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. Should you disagree on anything, then refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if you ˹truly˺ believe in Allah and the Last Day. This is the best and fairest resolution. From reading above verse , it’s comes an obligation to do 20 of we have the means to do it since it’s sunnah. Correct me if I am wrong brother
This said we should overly Allah swt, the messenger and those who have given authority to Omr radilahu anhu

Assalamualikum to all. We need to understand that Allah won't Question us whether we performed taraweeh or not as it is not a obligatory salah. If one performs it he or she will get benefits. So in any way which is convenient to an individual one can perform it.

Jazaka Allah, ma sha Allah nicely explained will be grateful if you can also explain salatul eid in pakistan we have different numbet and timings of takbeer. As eid al ahzab coming just next week

Would have better to ask Scholars in Pakistan. Why they have different number of takbeers. Also for 20 and 8 rakats Taraweeh. They must have evidence to evidence to support there narration.

During his reign, ‘Umar (R A) once went to the masjid in the month of Ramadan and noticed that people were performing Salat (Al-Taraweeh) in small congregations. He said to the Sahabah (R A), “Now that we do not have the fear that Salat Al-Taraweeh will become Fard on us, we can start performing it in congregation.” He then asked Ubaiy Ibn Ka’ab (R A) to lead Salat Al-Taraweeh - twenty raka’at followed by three raka’at Witr (Sahih Bukhari). Sahabah (R A) welcomed ‘Umar’s (R A) direction and none of them objected to this move. From then on they used to perform twenty-three raka’at Salat Al-Taraweeh; including the Witr every night in congregation during the month of Ramadan. All of the Sahabah (R A) including ‘Uthman (R A), ‘Ali (R A), and even Ummahatul Mu’mineen ‘Aisha (Radiallahu anhaa), Umm Salmah (Raadhiallahu anhaa), and Safiyyah (Radhiallahu anhaa) agreed with ‘Umar (R A). All of them used to perform these twenty three raka’at every night during the month of Ramadan in the masjid of the Prophet (PBUH). This clearly proves that indeed this is the sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH); otherwise, Sahabah (R A) would have never agreed to it. It is narrated in Kanz Al-‘Ummal, a well-known book of hadith: Ubai bin Ka’ab (R A) narrated that Umar (R A) ordered him to lead Salat (Al-Taraweeh) during the nights of Ramadan; so, I led people (Sahabah and Tabi’een) in praying twenty raka’at. (Kanz Al-‘Ummal, v2, p284) Al-Saaib bin Yazeed (R A) narrated that we used to offer twenty raka’at followed by Witr in the reign of ‘Umar (R A). (Sunan Al-Baihaqi, v1, p296) Imam Nawawi (Rahmatullah ‘Alay) has confirmed the authenticity of this hadith in his book “Sharh Al-Muhazzab, v4, p32”, as well as Imam Subki in his Sahih) Al-Saaib bin Yazeed (R A) narrated that we used to offer twenty raka’at followed by Witr in the reign of ‘Umar (R A) and ‘Uthman (Sunan Al-Baihaqi, v2, p496)

Not the Sunnah of the Prophet if it's not how the Prophet did it. Just because Sahaba did something doesn't mean that it would be approved by the Prophet. The ayah that Islam has been perfected was revealed, revelation was complete, so anything introduced and "made a part of the deen or changed thereafter" is an innovation right?

Prophet pbuh stopped taraweeh in congregation and asked everyone to pray individually at home (Sahih Bukhari: 2012). And this practice continued till Umar RA reinstated taraweeh in congregation calling it a good bida'h. I love Sheikh Uthman, but sadly he has not done justice to the Hadiths. In light of the Hadiths, unfortunately, his explanation is biased based on his personal opinion and not factual as per the hadiths.

Some people have erroneously interpreted Salat Al-Lail as Salat Al-Taraweeh and thus wrongfully concluded that the Prophet (PBUH) prayed only eight raka’at in Salat Al-Taraweeh. A correct understanding of this hadith should clear up all confusion and controversy about this issue. Consider the following points to properly understand this hadith: 1. Both ‘Aisha (Radiallahu anhaa) and Salamah bin Abdul Rahman (Radiallahu anhaa) were alive during the reign of ‘Umar (R A), ‘Uthman (R A) and ‘Ali (R A). If ‘Aisha (Radiallahu anhaa) and other Sahabah (R A) knew this hadith to be about Salat Al-Taraweeh; why did they not correct ‘Umar (R A) about it when he established twenty raka’at in congregation during his reign? 2. All of them continued to perform Salat Al-Taraweeh in this way including ‘Umar (R A), ‘Uthman (R A), ‘Ali (R A) and even ‘Aisha radhiallahu anhaa. But, there is no recorded protest by ‘Aisha radiallahu anhaa or any other Sahabah (R A) in the books of ahadith or Islamic history about it. Never did she nor any of the other Sahabah (R A) stopped people from it or warned them about this being a bid‘ah. 3. Certainly, no Muslim will believe that ‘Aisha (Radiallahu anhaa) and others did not oppose Umar (R A) for the fear of reprisal; nor can we believe that the narrator of the hadith, ‘Aisha (Radiallahu anhaa), herself and others did not properly understand the meaning of this hadith. Most certainly ‘Aisha (Radiallahu anhaa) knew that this hadith did not pertain to Salat Al-Taraweeh. She knew that this hadith was related to Salat Al-Tahajjud which is also called Salat Al-Lail. This is why she or any of the others did not oppose ‘Umar (R A). 4. In this hadith, ‘Aisha (Radiallahu anhaa) was talking about a prayer that the Prophet (PBUH) performed throughout the year. Notice her words, “The Prophet (PBUH) never performed more than eleven raka’at in the month of Rmadan or any other time of the year.” Everyone knows that Salat Al-Taraweeh is not performed any other time of the year except in Ramadan. What she meant was that the Prophet (PBUH) performed the eight raka’at of Salat Al-Tahajjud followed by three raka’at Witr even in the month of Ramadan in addition to Salat Al-Taraweeh. 5. Here is further proof for the above conclusion. When we look at the complete hadith, we notice that ‘Aisha (Radiallahu anhaa) explained how the Prophet(PBUH) used to perform these eleven raka’at. The hadith says that he used to perform four raka’at, then four raka’at, then three raka’at (the Prophet (PBUH) used to perform Tahajjud prayer by four raka’at as well) and throughout the year. Everyone knows that Salat Al-Taraweeh is performed in two and not four raka’at at a time. Often, the proponents of eight raka’at for Taraweeh do not mention the full hadith which then creates confusion and misunderstanding in the minds of common Muslims. If we were to apply this hadith to Salat Al-Taraweeh, then we would have to perform Salat Al-Taraweeh throughout the year and perform it in four, four, and three raka’at. If we did otherwise, we would be opposing this hadith that has been used to prove that Salat Al-Taraweeh consists of only eight raka’at.

This is wrong. Solat in night time is 2 rakaat as prophet said "masna masna". You can do it even 1000 rakaats if you want. Solat tarawih is no different from solat al lail. But during ramadhan it is sunnah to perform it right after isya prayer.

So you mean Prophet Alai Salaam prayed witr twice during Ramadan? bro how can you say that when tje Hadees is clear, Prophet Alai Salaatu Wasalaam prayed 11 rakahs after Isha in Jammah ? So was that Tahajjud soon after Isha? Or Taraweeh? Tahajjud and Taraweeh are same brother, it is just made more accessible to people during Month of Ramadhan and that is from the mercy of Allah, you gettibg reward of Tahajjud even if you dont wake up too early plus bonus rewards of Ramadhan. Lets be a bit realistic , how many people can do 20+3 then 8+3 after a day of fasting? And witr twice makes no sense either, another point, there are places in world where the day of fasting equals about 20 hrs, then imagine them praying 20+3 and 8+3, That is pretty much impossible IMO, although my opinion doesnt matter, but i bet most of people here will find that extremely hard, and Allah did not make our religion hard for us.

Jazakallah very clear explanation. Only question is today the ummah wants short rakats and also to pray 8 instead of 20, is that permissible? People are not exactly praying 20 Rakats for more breaks instead of longer 8 rakats like they did at time of sahabah.

Respected Sheikh Uthman. What do we make of these hadith of Bukhari, I quote: Bukhari Volume 9, Book 92, Number 393: The Prophet then said, "You continued doing what I saw you doing till I was afraid that this (Tarawih prayer) might be enjoined on you, and if it were enjoined on you, you would not continue performing it. Therefore, O people! Perform your prayers at your homes, for the best prayer of a person is what is performed at his home except the compulsory congregational) prayer." Volume 3, Book 32, Number 229: So, Allah's Apostle died and the situation remained like that (i.e. people prayed individually). "

The sheikh didn't mention other hadith which is related to this topic. For example" After three night of praying the prophet didn't show up and later he commanded his ummah to pray at home because he was afraid that the night prayer would be obligated for his ummah. Still some people didn't listen and came to the mosque after the dead of our beloved prophet (saw). The people where praying apart because the prophet didn't lead the prayer anymore, so i can understand that. But Omar (ra) tried to make them one ummah, because it's hard to say "go home and pray". The mosque is the house of Allah (saw). I think it's not a problem anymore because the prayer can't be obligated now.

The 2nd Riwayah, where Yazid talked about 20 Rakaat's is Dhaeef, as he never lived in Umar bin Khattab (r.a) time. The riawah is 'Munqatay' hence praying 11th Rakaat is preferable, and it is the only Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad PBUH. Alham'du'lillah

What I understand it is like Prophet Mohammad SAW used to do Astaghfar 600 times a day. If I am also doing astaghfar 600 times so I am following Sunnah but if I am doing 1000 times also I am following sunnah and for extra 400 also Prophet did not denied as many as we want we can. Similarly for taraweeh Sahaba offer 20 and not objected once Omar RA ordered. So no issue if some one offering 8 too but yes I am following 20 as I assume sunnah of of Huzur SAW and 20 sunnah of sahaba. But be patient and keep open heart if someone is offering 8 too.
