As a non-Muslim, I've been watching these videos and feeling curious about the different prayer traditions that are a part of Islam and Ramadan. It seems like people and cultures do things a little differently, so I was wondering if you'd ever share what types of practices you observe. (Obviously, that's very personal, so I completely respect and understand if that's a private thing for you!)

For example, in a recent video, there were clips of Leena and Alaina on her prayer mat and several members of the family praying together. I was so curious to learn more about what was happening and how this all works for this particular faith tradition. 😊

@@ErikaF49 In Islam, there are 5 prayers a day that Muslims observe. They can be prayed individually, however when prayed together in congregation, the reward is greater. In Ramadan in particular, people strive to pray together because every good action in Ramadan is exemplified. Prayer to Muslims is a personal one on one connection to Allah, even if you're praying in congregation. We don't believe in intercession like you see in other faiths, I.e., confessing to a priest. We repent and ask Allah for forgiveness directly. Allah is the unique name for God. Even Arab-speaking Christians call God, Allah. Surprising to some, Muslims pray the way Jesus prayed, by placing our heads on the ground in supplication to Allah. You'll read in the Bible that Jesues "fell on his face" in prayer to the Father. Muslims actually believe Jesus was a prophet in Islam who preached the oneness of Allah and he will return to fulfill his prophethood. May Allah guide us all on the path of truth. Ameen.

In Islam we pray 5 times a day .... it can be individually or in groups like in the mosque or as leena did during ifttar time which is the sunset prayer her father was the imam for the group prayer ... its not traditions its related to how the day went ...so if we can pray in groups that's better of course but if in home for example you an pray individually ❤❤I hope I made it more clear 🙏 when it comes to praying and how we do its not something that culture can put a hand in ❤💖💖and its amazing to see someone really asking and trying to know that's beautiful God bless youu 🙌🙌

Wow this info is so beautiful! Thank you for your responses. I was raised in the Christian faith, where prayer could be formal (bowing heads and holding hands before a meal at the dinner table or praying every night before bed, for example) or very casual (prayer could happen anytime, anywhere, not really scheduled - though there is a wide range of practices and beliefs around that in Christianity). So this seems quite different and lovely. Additional questions for anyone who wishes to answer: 1. During the 5 prayers, are there specific/prescribed prayers or is it more "freestyle"? 2. If prayer is amplified by more people sharing the experience, is it common for everyone in a household to pray together each time? 3. What if you're out of the house when prayer time comes? Is it acceptable to "skip" it sometimes or make up for it later? Again, thank you to everyone who is sharing and educating! I love learning about different faiths and what they mean to people and very much appreciate you helping me learn something new!

@@ErikaF49 There are specific prayers you make which are reciting actual chapters of the Quran. Some are shorter than others. Some tell historic accounts of the prophets or parables, some speak about the attributes of Allah, and His signs. You are also encouraged to supplicate for anything specific to you and your circumstances. So in a way, it's a mix of prescribed and freestyle. Most members of a household will tend to pray together if possible, however there are extra prayers you can make which are individual. Prayer is an integral part of the life of a Muslim. You plan your day around prayer so that you hopefully don't fall into a situation where you miss it. But if you do miss one, you have to pray it as soon as possible. There are exceptions for those who travel, you are able to combine prayers, etc. There are always exceptions in Islam, it is a religion of Mercy. In Ramadan in particular, the most encouraged supplication to make is one that recognizes Allah as the one who forgives, the one who loves to forgive and the one we ask for forgiveness. This is the most important time of the year for Muslims and of all the attributes that Allah could highlight about himself, forgiveness is at the forefront. A Muslim should always think positively and be hopeful of Allah.

10:42 tbh I'm not a mom but I can list a couple of things we do so Ramadan gives a good understanding of it for my younger brother. Well first of all alhamdulillah we always go for taraweeh,sometimes you can go with friends and then hang out after that, especiall during the last ten days you can pray taraweeh together then hang out and then pray Qiyaam allayl all together or in the masjid. The next thing we do is Ramadan competitions, so we usually make some sweets get a bowl with a bunch of questions(ex.about fasting ,ramadan) and some gifts on the side, so we pick out the questions(their folded so you can't see them beforehand) in turns and then whoever gets the first place gets to choose one of the gifts and then the second place and so on. There is also a great way to make your kids want learn more but I think it's more suited for a little older kids ...basically hanging colorful paper lanterns and putting tasks on the back of them(ex.who was Abu bakr or who was the first prophet) and every day after completing one day of fasting the child can turn a lantern, get his task, do it and then get a little reward. I feel like this comment has gotten too long, anyways there are many things you can do even like cooking iftar together or having ramadan learning circles to talk about the deen and get your children to know more about it.

My daughter just turned two yesterday 😢. What I did for her this Ramadan was buy a few Ramadan books and printed some Ramadan themed coloring sheets. I also got her a little felt calendar where she could put stars on each day.

I have an advent ramadan calendar and I decorate with a bunch of lights like moon and star design and I have an LED sign that says ramadan kareem for the window and I have those plastic reusable windows stickers for happy ramadan and I made a banner that says ramadan & Eid kareem. I want to get more decor like signs around the house but I’m waiting until next ramadan because we just bought our first home and idk what vibe we are going for yet . But in general I think lights are very festive and it makes you just feel special and like holiday so I love a lot of lights

I love celebrating Ramadan with my boys! We set up a little cardboard masjid which we decorated a few days before Ramadan and each one got a fun prayer mat.. they were so excited to pray there ❤️ Desi Doll do a really nice advent calendar with a moving crescent.. and finally Ramadan lights! They’re in charge of switching them on every evening right before iftar 💕 I hope this helps!
