Ramana Balachandhran, a child prodigy, has matured into a superb Veena player. He plays Veena with super dexterity as if he is singing into it. Patri Satish, an extremely talented mridangist, enjoys and plays in a unique manner that makes the concert complete. The two Vidhvans have rendered quite a few ragas together (Jaganmohoni, Chandrajyothi, Behag, Sourashtram, Neelambari, Ranjani, Bhageshri etc.) - all of them sound beautiful and serene. At the end of Bhageshri, Ramana concluded with a few lines from Akshramanamalai that was simply divine.

@srinivasanjeya5 жыл бұрын
vaidhya unfortuntely plays in 5th shruthi which really is unsuitable for veenai. any shruthi between 2 to 3 is best suited for veenai. he is indeed a wonderful vainika. however the he plays in unorthodox way. my humble opinion.
@rangaveeravalli5 жыл бұрын
@@srinivasanjeya i concur. sometimes one fears whether he lacks the mano-dharmam for that rigour, and sometimes one wonders if he is a victim of and slave to his dexterity..? :(

Sridhar Sri when did Rajesh play ? He dances / jumps on veena . He can rather play electric guitar band . This boy ramana is amazing . He has bright future

I for one is not a great literate of Carnatic music nor a critic of this art form. Liked this reference to Rajesh Vaidhya, that plays electric guitar on Veena, to the accompaniment of heavy metal...! Veena is such a divine instrument and his play on it is such degenerate and is a toxic example for younger generation. He has hacked the instrument was a hardware and the play on it as a software. said he is certainly talented. There's also a female version of Rajesh Vaidhya. And it is called Sri Vani

Very orthodoxy. The boy is young but fortunately NOT influenced by the fusion culture and he did his best in adhering to the orthodosic structure of raga bagesri like pandit Nikhil banarjee Hindustani sitar maestro of last century.

Bageshri is a Hindustani raga that came into Carnatic music, I think in the 20th century. This composition by MDR is the most commonly heard Carnatic composition in Bageshri.

yes - ramana has that difficulty in odd moments, playing a micro-fraction early, as well as a mic.frac. late esp. when playing swarams . in this clip, it is evident from 5:15 to about 5:28 - when ramana had started earlier than the kaalapramanam and sri patri had to patiently maintain the beats for ramana to come back and join.. but the boy is young, these things settle down with more and more practice.. thus as the years pass we should hope to see this disappear.. as to the mridangam missing the lead player, esp. during the niravals and kalpanaswaras, that happens in many cutcheris, as the lead is creatively moving and the accompanist needs to get it and switch to. that is easier for a violin but tough for the percussion as the rhythm switches, and the durations of the phrases also change...! this improves when the pair keeps playing with each other more and more, and get this non-verbal precognition more and more.. :) but these are minute, say 0.01%, versus the rest of the divine prodigious music and competent percussion.. !

@@rangaveeravalli Not commenting on swaras in other songs but it is within the freedom of the kala pramana style of this song. It's characteristic of this song. If you listen carefully the strokes are all well placed in the adjustments in your example before he slides right back on time to the beat in this example. In general, these things get forgiven with vocal artistes as they do it all the time as they adjust where the words are enunciated and moved. It's because they say the words for you. However, typically musicians do not have the luxury because you are overlaying the listener's knowledge of the vocal on their playing without singing it directly to them. He will learn that most people in the crowd will not appreciate these subtleties unless they are musicians themselves and that these sorts of risks are only reserved for vocalists to work well and not instrumentalists unless it is a super famous line...even then...
