I wish all these so-called Silverchair "fan's" would stop having a go at Daniel Johns and putting him down because he decided to try his hand at making a different style of music from the early Silverchair material!!. Other bands/artist's do it all the time - especially if they've been making music as long as Daniel/Silverchair. Although I agree their 1st 2 albums were their best (IMO). Did ppl want/expect them to still be writing/playing the same style more than 20yrs later?. They would have been accused of just bringing out the same style album-after-album!!. Talk about dammed - if-U-do and dammed if-U-dont!!

People get older, like The Beatles in the early 60s, they split up in the early 70's all of the fab 4 had a different sound. As of this post, Paul and Ringo still alive making music.
@scottbailey15604 жыл бұрын
You have to make a change or your audience and fans may leave you. I learned early in my early 20s, not everyone is going to like you. He just needed a change to be himself, express another side of his talent. Self rewarding! Take it from a man nearly 60 years old.

I think mentally he just couldn’t do it anymore. I heard him say in an interview that he taped an album of songs before young modern but hit the delete button cos he didn’t want to do angry anymore.
@jules81593 жыл бұрын
The last sentence is just it. Really. People would be complaining to god they’re making the same style. Listeners have to realize they’re second. The artist first. In a way I’m kinda glad these so called fans got filtered away, I just wish the wouldn’t complain under every video and just stay quiet.

Happy Belated birthday, Scott! I’m a 80s metal fan myself. Bands like Metallica, Megadeth, and the first couple Slayer albums are what made me wanna pick up guitar. Then I started getting into 90s alternative and the grunge sound like Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, and the like. I’ll be 21 in July. Keep Rocking good sir! 🤘🏻

@HoodedSword yeah Daniel Johns has grown immensely as a musician and so he should. His new music is so complex, he has Hans Zimmer on his records ffs. Bands who try and repeat old flames just burn out and they just end up being their own tribute band. I loved his old stuff but asking him to keep writing music in that style is like asking Da Vinci to do stick art.

Yep and it's such a pain in the arse especially as a muso with a different backround. For me as an example it has been quite a bit to find the right band to play in. I love to play stoner and doom and you don't find many blokes or even chicks whose are really into that style in the first place and on the other it's even worse to find people who play that shit proper you know. I'm really glad that I found two crazy sumbitches in the closer settlement but I can tell ya damn well that it's been a fuckin hard piece of work to get to this state. The bottom line is: This sort of music or the rock attitude of the 90s in general is a matter about jammin and gettin the right feel for it. It's so much more alive than any mainstream shit of today. Today you got kick arse quality, kick arse equipment , kick arse labels and kick arse opportunities but it's just all clean n serene. It sounds cold , emotionless and sterile. I'm better off with my old Les Paul, a fuzzed off his face Big Muff into my old Orange cranked. Come on what else do you need?

It sounds like they were the first post grunge band. Post grunge is stuff like Seether, Staind, Three Days Grace, Creed, and many more. It like Grunge didn't get the credit it deserves. The only post grunge songs I can think of that broke into the mainstream appearance is Rockstar by Nickelback, and a few Three Days Grace songs.

It's hard to accept the newer stuff silverchair has released...I personally prefer it to their teen angst, anyway it just boggles my mind at what a gifted composer, singer, writer and overall musician Daniel has turned out to be. I understand why he is exploring so many different genres, sure ppl may not like it esp Young Modern but YM is really courageous b/c the chair brought back melody into music. Even if you don't get YM and its not your thing its still stylistically brillant

Did the grunge thing for 10 years playing out all over and it was fucking fun don't get me wrong but you do reach a point where you decide to grow. Sometimes just pleasing others isn't good enough. I got a home recording studio and started doing things I always wanted and not caring what others thought. It will happen to u
