Thanks for the analysis Perry. Homebrewing a (probably bad) Cinderstrike ignite marksman (actual bow). This was super helpful for my future scaling!

I like these videos a lot Perry. You will always be the SME in my heart. One suggestion that would be super helpful for me and probably many others: go over the major changes to balance in upcoming patches. I imagine I'm not the only one who doesn't understand the implications of the changes. This might bring more traffic to your channel as well.

I like Duration when combined with dots that can be consumed or popped. That's a fun way to make Duration active.

We dont currently have this mechanic available in LE do we? It's one of my favourite mechanics in these types of games and so I really hope we get it here too. Examples in other games: Jade Harvester in Diablo 3. Rupture in Diablo 4. Reap in Torchlight Infinite. Expedite Suffering in Warframe.

I want more ailment builds like ignite glyph of dominion where it feels like a proper DOT build with the playstyle of setting your DOT and letting it do the damage. Really not a fan of how DOT builds in LE are mostly high attack/cast speed builds. About the ailment duration, it makes sense in the sense that you extend your damaging time so you can keep doing damage while you do other things like dodging attacks, but this doesn't seem to work as well in LE compared to POE because of how their ailments differ, and how much more easy it is to stand still and attack in LE. Side note: After playing Path of Exile and experiencing the constant damage of their DOTs compared to the tick based system so many games use, idk if I can truly be happy with DOT builds ever again with a tick based system lol

I think it would be really cool if ailments had more distinct mechanics. Maybe ignite should by default spread and only have 1 stack (i.e. replace ignite with spreading flames basically) but that 1 stack scales with the hit that applies it or in some other way that doesn't involve attacking fast. Bleed is nice to have as a many stacks ailment since it feels thematically appropriate. Poison could have a limited number of stacks but gain various effects at certain stack breakpoints (e.g. after 5 stacks monsters have a 50% chance to be stunned and spawn a poison pool at their feet ever x seconds, to show them basically puking toxins etc). Another thing that would be really nice is if ailments REQUIRED a certain amount of their damage type to be dealt to be applied at all. Being able to apply bleeds with a fireball is really weird in LE.

Randomly finding a 3LP Tongue led me to work on building some poison into my DoT generalist Warlock. I feel like you kinda glossed over Rotmind though - that damage gets added to Torment and can benefit from necres scaling. And yeah it'll hit hard if you have other sources of poison stacks because I read Poison Overload as giving general poison penetration, not just for ailment stacks, unless I'm horribly mistaken. With enough stacks, I'm pretty sure my Warlock can reach dealing more poison damage than necrotic overall. There is still a problem with the above idea right now which is kinda twofold. Obviously Rotmind can't be used with Plague Bearer (now that I think about it back when there was a bug/exploit that would let you do wield both together, holy shit that would have been strong). So to consistently reach 100 stacks you need to look at other sources, such as *Grand Taste of Venom, which is unfortunately broken!* Due to a typo it is rolling at like 40% the average potency it should. Now IDK how regularly you can give suggestions to devs, but since you're a great creator and you are clearly motivated to see ailments improve since you made this video, it would be awesome if you could check on/motivate EHG to fix GToV. It would allow Acolyte builds that don't get 200% poison chance from items alone to actually make the most of Poison Overload and thus shine like they should!

So how does penetration with "ailment" work? Or any penetration for that matter? Does the penetration stack for each ailment applied or is it a fixed pen? I assume it's fixed. Does shred do anything for ailments?

You missed the most broken part: ailment spread. That's literally one of the few exponential damage growths left in LE. Mortality's grasp absolutely decimates packs with mark of the rat, you don't even need poison overload. Just run though the echo dragging mobs along, and then one fissure will wipe them all. The only thing keeping it in check is that it does nothing single target. If there is any effect that can summon extra enemies during boss/shade fights, then poison will be completely broken again, even more so than before.

A build idea that i am wondering about is running Bone curse with bone prison nodes, Aura of decay with the "Plague Bearer node" that says that minions become poison in aura of decay. I haven't chance to make this build but it says on Mark of the rat that it applies on yourself or enemies but does yourself == minions as well or just you(hero).

@@dodang_9147 I think that's not exponential in any case as the poison stacks don't spread to your minions. You really want stacks bouncing and doubling.

I thought every monster had resistance just because there is poision SHRED and poision PEN. I thought shred reduces resistance to 0, while penetration subtracts resistance (and can go below 0) So when poision shred reduceses resistance, thats only useful vs enemies that have resistance?

most monsters in LE have 0 armor and 0 resistances. Shred and Penetration are functionally the same thing, just in different flavors.

What does physical penetration with bleed does? All damage penetrated more Phys res OR Only bleed penetrated more Phys res ?

Penetration is basically minus to resistance. So 30% phys pen on en enemy with 10% phys resist will make it do damage as if they have -20% phys resist.

Absolutely loved the video, since I am a huge DOT and ailment enjoyer and I am not in love with the system they have in LE, atleast not that basically most "feel" the same. I think Poison should be more slow and duration heavy, cause it kinda fits thematically, but atm it feels like: Get as much chance as you get Hits as fast as you can Profit And ehhhhh that gets samey after many hours

One problem that wasn't discussed is why dot builds are less popular than crit builds. The first reason is that they have less clear speed. The second one is that crit builds have 1 extra "more" multiplier - armor shred giving 80...90% more damage. Even with enemy crit avoidance crit builds have better clear speed. In my humble opinion dot builds should still have less speed but more damage at bosses at max stacks. Now crit builds are just better.

If the problem was just with the understanding of what efficience meant, I feel like it would be better to just make it "more damage with bleed" for example. New players also dont now what penetration really means, even if it is a more well explained term in the game.

4:28 is incorrect. Aliment DO NOT SCALE. I repeat. DO NOT SCALE WITH THE HIT THAT INFLICTED THEM. This is repeat over and over in tooltip of the game. There only 5 things that scale aliment. Duration, Damage over time, Increased [Type] damage, Penetration, Shred(This is also includes skill reduce resist, like reduce fire resistance). Funny that you mention Enchanted weapon. This was actually my first build in the game. Flame Reaver ignite enchant weapon.

Ailments do inherit generic more multipliers and DoT multipliers from skilltrees. It has been tested many times. You misunderstand what he is saying there.

@@johlargames I don't think raw stats affect skill damage of aliments. Aliment is fixed number that only applies to global modifiers of damage.

@@dodang_9147 Raw stats will absolutely affect the skill damage of ailments. If I'm playing an Acolyte, my poison stacks from my intelligence based skills will scale with increases to intelligence, as an example.

@@dodang_9147 The video is talking about 'more damage' multipliers on skill trees, which are nodes like 'Flame Reave deals 50% more fire damage', which will also be applied to the ignite applied by Flame Reave. It is not immediately obvious if you are new to LE but this has been proven. This has nothing to do with raw stats.

@@chunkypapa "Increased fire damage" is a global modifier. His video is stating that int and dext are global damage modifiers.
