The first film was an anti war movie, while this movie is supposed to represent John Rambo doing everything he can to bring POW's back to friendly lines. President Ronald Reagan saw the film and said, "Our troops must back home, even though they are reported missing or dead, they must come back home."

This is a very different film than First Blood, but still an excellent movie. I saw this when I was 13 when a family friend (who was like a 2nd father to me) took me to the theater to see it. He was a Vietnam Veteran, but he never spoke of his experiences there. This movie made him cry, more than once. He just sat there through the whole credits, gathering himself together. I've never forgotten it.

Rambo 3 dealt with the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Rambo 4 was about Burma and the atrocities going on there. Rambo 5 was about human trafficking in Mexico. The great thing about this series is that they all deal with real world issues.

EXCITED TO SEE YOU WATCH THE SEQUEL. You should definitely continue The franchise foward with 3( which is a movie that gets a lot of underserved takes on it,but i am sure you all will love for keeping The core of Rambo and Trautman still on it.). Overall The franchise overall is great and if you do Last Blood eventually, then i beg you to watch The Extended edition since it will make off a much more enjoyable experience.

Rambo IV is well worth a watch! It's the second best in the series for me. It's blood violent, but it has every bit the same heart as the original! Rambo V is good too, but it felt too much like a money grab to me just like Rambo III.

In the late 70's and early 80's the Vietnam POW/MIA issue was a huge cultural issue. A number of movies came out addressing the issue - movies like Uncommon Valor, and Missing in Action series to name a couple.

I would disagree with what some people say about the sequels being not as good or devoid of emotion. There's a very serious and political undercurrent to this one about missing POWs being abandoned by their country that really hits home along with Rambo's speech at the end which still sadly has a lot of relevance today. Yeah there's a lot of (very well filmed) action too but i love this one equally with First Blood and its my favourite of the sequels.

I love ALL the Rambo films, no exceptions. But my order of preference: 1, 4, 2, 5, 3. 3 isn't bad, its just very typical over the top action film, though it's well done and fun. It was also featuring Afghanistan at a time when supporting Afghanistan was a bit controversial.

1. Best of the bunch. 2. The Soviet Commander/Steven Burkoff also played the heavy in "Beverly Hills Cop". 3. There's a must watch/share with Sly and Kurt Russell called "Tango and Cash" where a cop says to Tango and says, "He thinks he's Rambo." Tango/Stallone says, "Rambo, is a pussy"🤣 4. Charles Napier/Murdock also played Lt. Boyle in "Silence of the Lambs" 5. Julia Nickson/Co could get it. 😍🥰😋

1. All the 'Rambo' films are entertaining - in my own opinion (and I have them all on 4KHD in my movie collection) ✌️ 2. He also played the heavy in the James Bond (Roger Moore) film 'Octopussy'. 3. Agreed and fun film...troubled production behind-the-scenes & they were lucky it was a hit at the box office (rumor is Stallone himself had a hand in editing the film in post production before release). 4. And he played the American General in the 'Austin Powers' movies, was the voice of millionaire & TV network owner Duke Phillips in 'The Critic' cartoon series & was a prison guard in 'Ernest Goes To Jail' where Ernest (Jim Varney) says the line, imitating Jimmy Cagney and Stallone from Rocky & Rambo II "Yo, Murdock, you killed my brotha and I'm the guy who's gonna sh00t ya". 5. Later she was also in 'Sidekicks' with Chuck Norris & married David Soul (aka Starsky from the 70s TV series Starsky And Hutch) 6. Bonus fact - Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger would star in 4 films together - The 3 'Expendable' films (I guess Rambo really did later on become expendable eh?, lol 😆) & the first 'Escape Plan' movie (Stallone did the other two 'Escape Plan' films with Dave Bautista).

I love Rambo 1-3! It was a huge part of my childhood and i remember how we ran through the woods reenacting scenes from the movie. But what pisses me really off today is the lack of reality when it comes to shooting, being shot, bombs and how they work and actually everything military. i mean, you see how Rambo shoots, right? He never ever uses a sight, shoots that damn machine gun right from his hip, waves the gun around all the place (with a badass look on his face), has no recoil at all and hits just everything! :D But i guess that's just the 80s as every action movie was just so dumb but cool at the same time^^

38:24 - Steven Berkoff (Russian commander) and Sylvester Stallone share a loose connection. Sylvester Stallone was considered for the movie 'Beverley Hills Cop' in which Steven Berkoff played the baddie, Victor Maitland. However, Stallone wanted to make 'BHC' much darker with minimal humour. The studio said 'No' to his suggested changes. So Eddie Murphy got offerred the role of Axel Foley instead and Stallone took his ideas for 'BHC' and made the movie 'Cobra' instead.

For 4 and 5, the violence and the gore will be upped ten fold to a pretty realistic level lol in the 4th movie Sylvester Stallone wanted to bring awareness to the Burmese civil war and its atrocities, and the 5th is a bit more emotional and focuses more on Rambo story wise.

If you want a film in a similar vein, try Uncommon Valor. An even more interesting take, The Park is Mine. Both have actors you know. My mom wore a POW/MIA bracelet for a GI until he was confirmed KIA around 2000. Dad was in during Vietnam, Japan, mom went over to live with dad off base, I was born in base, delivered by a full bird colonel, birth certificate was issued by the DoD, record of birth abroad by the state department (form DS-50). Grew up watching a lot of these types of films, multiple Vietnam vets in the family. I think the worst treatment could come from other, previous, vets, especially WW2 ones. I remember a specific statement from a great uncle, a WW2 Pacific Marine, to a cousin, Vietnam Air Force, about how “your war wasn’t a real war, you don’t deserve to be treated well”.

The Rambo everyone associates with Rambo 😅 It's sad that the sequels became such shoot-em ups. First Blood Part 2 gets parodied a lot due to the over the top violence, and has inspired more than a few imitators. Hot Shots Part Deux and UHF come to mind, as does the pseudo-knock off Eastern Condors 1987 (with Sammo Hung).

The book by David Morrell was called First Blood and had Rambo die but was even more graphic then the film as Rambo in book killed Teasel, Galt and the deputies along with National Guardsmen. Stallone worked to change the original script with rewrites making it so Rambo lived which Kirk Douglas was unhappy with as read the book as was originally set to play Colonel Trautman and Richard Crenna came in at last minute when Douglas quit the role.
